If You Can Take It Here, You Can Take It Anywhere... Photos, That Is

Two photo contests with attractive prizes are now accepting entries, though their welcome mats will be rolled up before summer's end. The first, PHOTOBOOK NYC, seeks the best pictures of New York City. Images must be submitted by Aug. 12 unless accompanied by a $10 late fee through Aug. 18. The second, World in Focus, offers the grand prize of a 10-day expedition to the Galapagos Islands courtesy of National Geographic Expeditions.

The contest closer to home, PHOTOBOOK NYC, solicits photos in three categories:

  • People whether celebrities, politicians, friends, neighbors, pets or tourists
  • Places including iconic scenes (like the bridge we'd like to sell you above), new developments or construction sites, 'hoods (as in neighborhoods; Little Red Riding sightings should be submitted above); social clubs, parks, cemeteries and city recreation
  • Things such as street art, found art, festivals, parades, inanimate objects, glitz, bling, dirt, plus the strange, bizarre and unexplained; you know, the weird details that give New York City its texture

PHOTOBOOK NYC is a contest created by PDN (Photo District News) with Blurb, a site that helps people make their own books. There will be 35 winners to be published in a PDN special edition book celebrating images that speak volumes about the city. All winners will receive a PDN subscription, a 2010 Photoplus Expo Gold Pass, a gift card from Blurb and an invitation to the Photoplus BASH Party (plus 1). One grand prize winner will receive a PhotoPlus Expo Conference Pass ($510 value). To participate, there is a $25 entry fee per image or series of up to six related images.

The World in Focus contest presented by National Geographic Traveler and PDN lets you enter as either a novice shooter or a professional photographer. Portraits, places and "moments that make our world so worth exploring" are accepted for consideration.
