Eye-Fi Expands Mobi Wireless Memory Card Capacity to 32GB

Eye-Fi has announced its 32GB SDHC Mobi Wireless Class 10 Memory Card, offering all the same features and specs of the previous 8GB and 16GB editions—while having the distinction of being the first 32GB card that Eye-Fi has ever produced. Now, you can continue to enjoy the benefits of built-in Wi-Fi for instant image transfer to your smartphone or tablet, while capturing far more photos and videos.

Take advantage of maximum read and write speeds of 13MB/s and 23MB/s, respectively, and a minimum transfer rate of 10MB/s. Integrated 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi on the 2.4GHz band enables you to instantly send photos and videos from your SDHC-enabled camera to your Apple or Android smartphone or tablet—without the need for a wireless network. This expedites and simplifies the task of sharing images via email, text, or social media sites. Benefit from an indoor wireless range of 45', which is doubled to 90' when you step outside.

Simply download the free Eye-Fi app from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Amazon's Kindle Fire app store, and install it on your mobile device. Then, enter the 10-digit activation code located on the back of the Mobi card case, and you're good to go. The app is compatible with iOS 5.1 and Android 2.3 or later.

Once paired with your smart device, the card transfers images and videos whenever new content is detected by your device. The wireless network created by the Mobi offers WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK, and WEP 64/128 encryption for security. Once the transfer is complete, the card disconnects its Wi-Fi to conserve your battery life.

I tested the new Mobi card with the Sony NEX-F3 mirrorless camera and my iPhone 4S. The Eye-Fi app was easy to download from the App Store and took only a few minutes to install. Once I entered the activation code, enabled Wi-Fi, and started taking shots with the camera, the images began transferring smoothly and quickly. Within a few seconds of capturing a photo, I saw it appear on my iPhone in the Eye-Fi app's gallery.

The Mobi supports Wi-Fi transfer of JPEG photos and AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4, MPG, MTS, WMV, M4V, and  3GP video files, provided the videos are smaller than 2GB. However, it will read and write all file types, including RAW photos. Click here for camera compatibility.
