New FinePix Cameras from FujiFilm

Announcing an abundance of FinePix cameras for 2012, Fujifilm is offering a point-and-shoot model for every need and budget. Cameras’ resolutions range from 12 to 16 Megapixels and optical zooms from 5x to 20x.The cameras integrate color LCDs ranging in size from 2.7 to 3 inches. A few have electronic viewfinders. They all capture high-definition video, with some cameras supporting 720p and others full HD at 1080p. Most models use CMOS sensors, but some incorporate CCDs. Two models have built-in GPS. Most have internal memory but a few rely solely on an SD/SDHC/SDXC card—removable media common to all models.

Fujifilm FinePix F770EXR, F750EXR and F660EXR

Fujifilm brings three new additions to its high-end travel compact FinePix F-Series lineup: The FinePix F770EXR in black or red; the F750EXR in black, red, or white; and the F660EXR in black. These F-Series cameras feature a newly improved ½-inch 16 Megapixel EXR-CMOS sensor that delivers superior image quality and performance, especially in low-light situations. They are each capable of recording Full HD 1080p video. All contain an ultra clear 3-inch high contrast 460K resolution LCD view screen with a wide 160° viewing angle for framing the best images possible. The F770EXR with GPS and F750EXR use a Fujinon 20x super wide-angle lens (25-500mm) to produce beautiful images. The F660EXR incorporates a Fujinon 15x super Wide-Angle (24-360mm) lens. All these cameras contain something Fujifilm calls Intelligent Digital Zoom that effectively doubles the zoom capability.

The Intelligent Digital Zoom feature may help sway skeptics about the value of digital zoom. While conventional digital zoom basically only resizes the optical image data, often resulting in lack of definition, the new technology uses the speed and power of the EXR processor to instantly sharpen image edges and reduce noise for images with natural clarity and crispness of detail across the digital zoom range. With more clearly defined outlines and reduced noise, you can take pleasing, high-quality pictures. Since the zoom can be used in the EXR AUTO mode, you can just leave optimal settings up to the camera. The cameras also feature a type of image stabilization (CMOS Shift + High ISO) that counters the typically blurred images resulting from camera shake and subject movement. Another new technology in the cameras is that advanced EXR AUTO mode with motion-detection capability to virtually eliminate subject blur in all lighting conditions.

Fujifilm FinePix AX550

The FinePix AX550 digital camera, in black, is a 16-megapixel camera that uses a CCD sensor and has a Fujinon 5x wide angle (26-130mm) optical zoom lens. It captures 720p video. The AX series features smile detection that works with Fujifilm’s face detection technology to detect smiles on faces—it will not take a picture until it detects a smile. Another feature is blink detection, which warns you if you have captured an image with people blinking, so you can re-shoot if necessary. The AX550 also offers an “Easy Web Upload” function that allows you to sort through your photos on-camera and decide which ones to upload to Facebook or YouTube. You then connect to a PC and launch the MyFinePix Studio software (for Windows), and selected images will immediately upload.

Fujifilm FinePix JX580

The FinePix JX580, in black, blue or red and JX500, in black, blue or red, all feature Fujinon 5x optical zoom lenses and record 720p video. The JX580 has a 16-MegaPixel CCD sensor. The camera endows shooters with the ability to take great pictures, even in low light. It contains a large 3-inch LCD screen with improved viewing in bright light, a metal body and a powerful Li-ion rechargeable battery. The JX500 is a 14MP camera with CCD sensor and 2.7-inch LCD. It weighs slightly less than the JX580.

Fujifilm FinePix JZ100 and JZ250

The FinePix JZ series offers up slim and stylish wide-angle 8x zoom cameras with versatile shooting modes. The FinePix JZ100 (black) is a 14MP camera with 2.7-inch screen. The FinePix JZ250 (black) is a step-up model that captures photos with 16MP resolution and features a 3-inch LCD. Both models employ a Fujinon 8x (25-200mm) optical zoom lens and capture 720p video. They both contain lens shift image stabilization and a flash and enable easy uploading.

Fujifilm FinePix T350

Fujifilm’s FinePix T350, which is available in a choice of three colors (black, blue and red), features a 14MP CCD (1/2.3"), a 10x 28-280mm equivalent zoom, and a 3.0-inch 230,000-dot LCD. In addition to sharp JPEG still images, the FinePix T350 also captures 720p HD video with monaural sound by simply having its One Touch Movie button pressed.

The FinePix T350 also features a number of advanced modes, including Motion Panorama Mode for ultra wide-field in-camera stills, and Night and Night Portrait Modes for capturing sharp images in low lighting. There’s also Blink Detection, Smile & Shoot, Face Detection, as well as a top ISO of 3200 and image stabilization for sharp pictures—anywhere, any time.

Fujifilm’s FinePix T350 is compatible with SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and is powered by a lithium-ion battery that’s good for about 160 exposures per charge.

Fujifilm FinePix T400

A step-up from the FinePix T350 is the Fujifilm FinePix T400, which along with its body styling, shares almost all of the attributes of the FinePix T350, albeit with a higher-res 16MP CCD and a higher-power digital zoom function (7.2x versus 6.7x). The Fujifilm FinePix T400 is available in a choice of black, red and blue.

Fujifilm FinePix XP50, XP100 and XP150

Fujifilm’s FinePix XP50, XP100, and XP150 are Fujifilm’s rough-and-tumble cameras. Palm sized and available in a choice of black, silver, orange, green and blue, Fujifilm’s XP-series FinePix cameras are waterproof down to 16.4' (5m), shock proof from drops of 5' (1.5m), dust proof, and freeze proof down to 14°F (-10°C).

Other features the three XP series digital cameras share include a 14.4MP CMOS sensor, a 5x 28 to 140mm equivalent zoom lens, ISO sensitivity levels up to 3200, 2.7-inch 230,000-dot LCDs, 1080p @ 30 fps HD video capture with monaural sound, sensor-shift image stabilization, easy image sharing with YouTube and Facebook and compatibility with SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

To better ensure smooth operating when photographing under less than sunny skies, all three cameras feature a bright LED light for opening the shadows when taking stills or video in dim environs. They also offer double locks on their battery compartment doors, strategically placed anti-slip rubber grips and a water-repellent coating over the lens port.

As for the differences between the XP50, XP100 and XP150, they include internal memory (95MB for the XP50 and 100, 47MB for the XP150), and the number of exposures per battery charge (300 exposures for the XP100 and XP150 and about 220 for the XP50). Their individual weights and dimensions also vary slightly, but not enough to make a difference in the real world. The FinePix XP150 also features GPS functionality along with a compass and photo navigation functions.

Fujifilm FinePix S4200 and S4500

Bridge cameras, which are essentially hefty point and shoots with DSLR looks and insanely long zoom ranges, are an increasingly popular category of cameras, and Fujifilm’s FinePix S4200 and FinePix S4500 should be of interest to photographers looking for this kind of functionality.

As for commonality, both of these super zoom cameras feature 14MP CCDs, ISO sensitivity up to 6400, 3.0-inch 230,000-dot LCDs, hot shoes, SD/SDHC/SDXC memory-card compatibility and the ability to capture sharp JPEGs as well as 720p HD video @ 30 fps with monaural sound. Both cameras also allow for a choice of alkaline, Ni-MH or lithium-ion battery power for up to 300, 500 or 700 exposures before you’ll need to freshen up the battery supply. (A set of four AA alkaline batteries are included with the cameras.)

Advanced imaging features found on both of these cameras include Motion Panorama, which stitches multiple frames together in-camera for extreme wide-field stills, Track Auto Focus, Instant Zoom and a Zoom Bracketing Mode.

The differences between the two models come down to the choice of the zoom range you need or want. The Fujifilm FinePix S4200 features a 24x 24 to 576mm equivalent zoom lens while the FinePix S4500 features a 30x 24 to 720mm equivalent zoom lens. Both cameras also offer up to 6.7x digital zoom functionality if you need to zoom in closer than the optical limits of each camera’s respective lenses.

Fujifilm’s FinePix S4200 and S4500 are available in black only.

Fujifilm FinePix SL300

Another super-zoom offering from Fujifilm is the FinePix SL300, which features a 14MP CCD, a 30x 24 to 720mm equivalent zoom lens; a 3.0-inch 460,000-dot LCD; 720p HD @ 30 fps; a hot shoe and ISO sensitivity up to 6400. DSLR-like in design (though minus an EVF viewing alternative to the camera’s LCD, like the FinePix S4200 and S4500 have), the FinePix SL300 is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, which is good for about 300 exposures per battery charge.

Like many of the other new models from Fujifilm, the FinePix SL300 features advanced capture modes including Motion Panorama, Instant Zoom and Zoom Bracketing. It also has an HD movie mode. The Fujifilm FinePix is compatible with SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and is available in black only.

Fujifilm FinePix HS25EXR and HS30EXR

The top guns of Fujifilm’s winter 2012 lineup are the FinePix HS25EXR and FinePix HS30EXR. Both of these bridge-style bruisers feature large-for-their-class (1/2") 16MP CMOS sensors and 30x 24 to 720mm equivalent zoom lenses that open up to a speedy f/2.8 maximum aperture.

For composing and reviewing stills and video, both cameras feature 3.0-inch 460,000-dot LCDs and electronic viewfinders. Both cameras also offer 1080p HD video capture, a hot shoe, full manual overrides, advanced modes including HDR capture, analog-style controls, 3D capture, and low-light exposure features including a top ISO of 12800 (expanded).

The differences between the two models include EVF resolution (0.20-inch, 200,000 dots for the HS25EXR and 0.26-inch, 920,000-dots for the HS30EXR), an electronic level (HS30EXR only), RAW still capture (HS30EXR only), and power supplies—the HS25 is powered by four AA batteries (approximately 350 exposures per set for alkaline; it also accepts rechargeable Ni-MH and lithium batteries, which will capture more exposures than the camera will under alkaline power), while the HS30EXR uses rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (approx 600 exposures per charge).

Fujifilm’s FinePix HS25EXR and HS30EXR both contain approximately 25MB of internal memory, accept SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards and are available in black only.

Just purchased the Fujifilm S4200 this week. This is an entry level bridge camera and thus people should not expect it to give the same results as a 2000 dollar camera with seperate lenses. I was just looking for a point and shoot with the benefit of a more powerful optical lens. I am a novice photographer and prefer to use a camera that is fun and easy to use. After taking many shots and some movies, I can definitely say that this camera meets my criteria. The pictures turned out fabulous and I dare say  even managed to take a few good macro shots. Movies are a different story if you are looking for a hollywood type quality production you wont achieve that goal. The movies it shoots are just at the acceptable level, but then again if a person is that serious about movies, they probably should use a seperate camcorder. So to sum up the camera, it takes excellent pictures with zoom and macro . However if using the extended zoom   always use a tripod to get clear non blurry pictures with this camera. Good all around camera for a beginner and novice like me. I give it a thumbs up. Oh yaaaaa, dont forget to read the manual. I find that people who do not read the manual are the ones that usually give these entry level cameras bad reviews, or even the 2000 dollar cameras they purchase. The camera is only as good as the person operating it.

my only question is how do i know if a camera has at least 300 dpi's
i have read every thing on so many cameras but the info doesnt seem to just come right out & show how many dpi's are there.
i dont understand alot of what i am reading so maybe its there but i just dont know how the dpi's are listed.
i need help :)

I assume you are wondering how big you can print an image at 300dpi.

While a goal for many printers, prints less than 300dpi will have plenty of detail. I remember running many photography classes years ago where the students were using 3mp cameras and we made perfectly acceptable 8x10 inch prints.

The way to know how large you can print at 300dpi is to take the pixel count and divide it by 300. So for example, take the Fuji FinePix T350 featured above with a sensor resolution of 12.3MP: 4288 x 2864. Divide the pixels by 300 and you could print a 9.5 x 14.3 inch print @300dpi.
