Unveiled: Fujifilm FUJINON XF10-24mm f/4 R OIS Lens

Expanding the X-mount family of lenses for their increasingly popular X-series mirrorless digital cameras has been a priority at Fujifilm and, to that end, they have just announced the XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS lens. An ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, it will take its place with the 10 lenses already available and offer the widest-yet angle of view for an X-series lens. Its 35mm equivalent focal length is 15-36mm and with a minimum focus distance in normal mode of 1.6’, it provides sharp details from foreground to distant background. It also offers a macro mode with a minimum focus distance of 9.4”. The f/4 maximum aperture is constant throughout the zoom range, which provides effective and consistent low-light performance.

Adding to its low-light capability is an optical image stabilization (OIS) system that reduces blur caused by camera movement. With the OIS system and constant f/4 maximum aperture, this lens is not only well suited to expansive landscapes, but is also ideal for inclusive interior shooting. A newly implemented optical design features four high-precision aspherical lenses and three extra-low dispersion glass elements to help minimize chromatic aberrations and contribute to high overall image sharpness. On cameras that incorporate the Lens Modulation Optimizer (LMO) function, specifically the Fujifilm X-E2, resolving power is enhanced at all apertures. Additionally, to minimize ghosting and flare, a multi-layer High Transmittance Electron Beam Coating has been applied to all lens elements and a newly-developed additional coating is added to the reverse side of the front lens element for enhanced reduction of ghosting that is common to lenses featuring concave elements.

High speed autofocus is enabled by an inner focusing system, which drives the middle and rear lens groups without moving the larger front lens elements. AF action is not only fast, but accurate, and a front element that does not move allows for easier control over filter applications and is more practical when shooting in macro mode. Finally, a seven-blade rounded diaphragm helps to create smooth, circular out-of-focus background highlights and dynamic sun stars. As a versatile wide-angle zoom lens with a notable optical design and a solid barrel with wide zoom and focus rings, the XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS is a welcomed addition to the X-series line of lenses.

With f:2,8 aperture an F mount it would be the rage. But I wonder if that could be able to focus to infinite.
