Unveiled: New GoPro HERO3+ Cameras, Mounts, and Accessories

Share

GoPro has just announced their new and improved HERO3+ action cameras, as well as several accessories including a variety of new mounts. The new HERO3+ cameras are smaller and lighter. Plus, they feature faster Wi-Fi, improved image quality, new and exciting shooting modes, a longer-lasting battery, and more.

Like the HERO3 models, the new HERO3+ cameras are available in two models: the HERO3+ Black Edition Camera and the HERO3+ Silver Edition. The HERO3+ Black Edition is 20% smaller than its predecessor, while the HERO3+ Silver Edition is 15% smaller. Plus, both models also have batteries that last 30% longer than the original HERO3 battery. The GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition Camera is the higher-end GoPro camera model. Like its predecessor, the new HERO3+ is Wi-Fi enabled. However, the Wi-Fi is faster for better wireless performance when sending footage to your mobile device. The camera also has an ultra-wide-angle glass lens and it can support up to 4Kp resolution video at an improved 15 fps. It can also capture 2.7Kp at 30 fps, 1440p at 48 fps, 1080p at 60 fps, 960p at 100 fps, and 720p at 120 fps for high-speed action and impressive slow-motion playback.

The HERO3+ Black Edition Camera includes the Wi-Fi Remote and it supports advanced shooting modes including SuperView video mode and Auto Low Light mode. SuperView video mode allows you to capture immersive wide-angle shots, while Auto Low Light mode will adjust the camera’s frame rate intelligently for improved low-light performance. This model also supports 12-megapixel burst photography at up to 30 fps. The camera’s other advanced capture settings include Looping Video, Continuous Photo, White Balance, and Protune mode. It works with the GoPro app as well, which facilitates live video preview and remote camera control via a smartphone or tablet. Besides the Wi-Fi Remote, the HERO3+ Black Edition Camera comes with a waterproof housing that can protect the camera down to a depth of 131’ (40 m).

The HERO3+ Silver Edition also features faster Wi-Fi wireless performance and an ultra-wide-angle glass lens. It can capture Full HD 1080p video at an improved frame rate of 60 fps. It also supports several other recording resolutions and frame rates including 960p at 60 fps and 720p at 120 fps. Like the HERO3+ Black Edition Camera, the HERO3+ Silver Edition is compatible with the Wi-Fi Remote (not included with Silver model). The HERO3+ Silver Edition supports 10-megapixel burst shooting at 10 fps as well. It also supports live video preview and remote control from your smartphone or tablet with the free GoPro app. Both new HERO3+ models can also be used with the enhanced GoPro Studio 2.0 and they are both compatible with all new and old GoPro mounts and accessories.

A selection of  innovative and inspired mounting accessories have also been announced by GoPro this week, including the Jaws Clamp Mount, the Junior Chesty, the Suction Cup Mount, the Tripod Mounts, and the Head Strap + QuickClip. All of these new mounts work with all GoPro camera models. The new mounts also feature quick-release attachments for faster camera connection and removal from the mounts.

The Jaws Clamp Mount will attach to objects ranging in size from 0.25 to 2 inches in diameter. Plus, the mount features quick-release camera attachment points at both the base of the clamp and at the top of the neck. This ensures that you'll be able to achieve a variety of shooting angles. The Junior Chesty is a chest-mount harness for children and pets. It is designed for kids ages three and up and allows you to capture hands-free POV footage of your children playing sports or just playing around the yard. You can also you use it to capture footage from your dog or other pet's point of view.

The new GoPro Suction Cup Mount is similar to the older model except that it includes both a standard base and a quick-release base for moving conveniently between shots and locations with your GoPro camera. It allows you to attach any GoPro camera to cars, boats, motorcycles and more. The mount includes adjustable arms, which allow for ultra-compact mounting. The suction cup has even been proven to hold by the testers at GoPro at speeds of more than 150 miles per hour.

The new GoPro Tripod Mounts have also been revamped. They now include the standard Tripod Mount adapter for the GoPro housing and a Quick Release Tripod Mount so you can easily move between shots, camera mounts, and locations. The new Head Strap + QuickClip mount includes a head strap that works with the GoPro QuickClip. Together, they support a variety of head-mounting options, and the strap is fully adjustable to fit all sizes. The Head Strap can be worn over a helmet—or directly on your head—to capture footage from a headlamp-like perspective. The QuickClip enables compact, low-profile mounting, and it can even be used to attach your GoPro to a backwards baseball cap or any other object that is 0.12 to 0.4 inches thick.

Other accessory announcements from GoPro include a new Standard Housing and a Standard Housing Lens Replacement Kit. The new GoPro Standard Housing is a spare/replacement housing for your GoPro HERO3 or HERO3+ camera. A flat glass lens affords maximum image clarity above and below water. Plus, it's waterproof down to a depth of 131 feet (40 m) and it features large buttons for easy camera control—even when you're wearing gloves or mittens. The housing comes with a Standard Backdoor and a Skeleton Backdoor.

You can also purchase the new Standard Housing Lens Replacement Kit, which contains everything you need to replace the glass lens on the new Standard Housing. The kit includes two replacement lenses and seals, screws, and a screwdriver for fast, easy-to-manage repairs.

The last of the newly announced GoPro camera accessories for the HERO3 and HERO3+ camera models include a 2-pack of protective lenses, a Protective Lens + Covers Kit, and a new Floaty Backdoor that enables your GoPro camera to float in water when it's encased in its waterproof housing.

Under the specs for the silver edition. Should it 960p, rather than 906p?

Patrick,

Thank you for informing us. We have since made the correction.

This looks to be almost exactly what I've been waiting for! BUT, for sea kayaking, a (super) wide angle lens doesn't work well, because everything and everyone (other kayakers) are tiny tiny tiny. Need a 90 or 70 degree lens to work well.
Any chance of having a narrower angle lens or narrow view shooting mode (as you have with at least one of your previous models), while also featuring the waterproof properties?

Hi Nathan -

There is certainly a chance that GoPro and/or third party manufacturers will offer accessory lenses for the GoPro 3+ in the future.  We will have to wait and see.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

i do believe you're showing the silver version when you say you're showing the Black Edition.

We have made the correction. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Available when?

Hi Steve-

We have no firm release or shipping dates at this time.  You may sign-up for an e-mail notification on the B&H GoPro 3+ web pages.

thnx!

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have since made the appropriate correction and replaced the link.

Will these cameras capture my lat/long (GPS) location?

Hi Tom -

These cameras do not have any GPS capabilities.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

This would be a killer feature. Any plans to implement or are there any suggested integrations or apps that make simultaneous capture of video and GPS data possible?

Hi Ryan -

Unfortunately these cameras do not offer a GPS function. As far as we know, GoPro is not offering an app or accessory to provide GPS to the current generation of HERO pov action cameras.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

If the Gopro Hero3+ is 20% smaller than the Hero3, I don't understand how the housings, batteries and BacPac are interchangeable - does that negate the size savings?

Hi Ed -

At about 20% lighter and smaller, and with a slew of new features like:  Superview Wide-Angle mode, Auto Low-Light mode, 30% longer battery life, 400% faster Wi-Fi,  33% sharper glass lens and a 2x reduction of imaging artifacts - I am not seeing any significant downside.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

The 20% smaller size of "camera" is most definately misleading. It seems the actual reduction in size comes from a thinning/modifications of the housing. Thus smaller housing size - not camera.

I hope that helps,
JD

Is there any up-date regarding the release date available.
I plan to be in NYC by the end of November.
Realistic to get the camera in your shop?

greets from Austria!

We have shipped some out. We still have more pre-orders to fill though. Stock in November will all depend how quickly GoPro can fill orders.

okay! THX!
Can I place a pre-order and pick it up in the end of November in your shop?

greets from Vienna

Hi Robin -

Unfortunately pre-order items cannot be held at our store for customer pick-up.  Hopefully we will have store stock available when you visit us in November.

Hi, I just bought the gopro 3+ bacpac but the case that it came with is only for the reagular gopro 3 not the +. The backdoors do not fit on my case. They are advertised as fitting both the 3 and 3+.

Hi Felix -

The back doors will not fit the included 3+ case. This case will accommodate the back doors:

The GoPro HERO3 Skeleton Housing is similar to the regular GoPro camera housing, but it has open side panels that provide access to the HERO3 cable connection points. It can be used for live-feed video, charging while recording, keeping the camera cool during shoots and more. It's also the GoPro camera housing best suited to capture enhanced audio if you're recording at low speeds where wind won't be an issue. The housing is compatible with the GoPro HERO3 only and it's intended for use in dry environments only since it is not waterproof.

The HERO3 Skeleton Housing features open sides for access to all cable connection points
Supports live-feed video, charging, camera cooling and enhanced audio for low speed action
Compatible with the GoPro HERO3 cameras only

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

Can I buy one GoPro 3+ at BH store in NY this week?
I really need one of these...
Thx

Hi Andre -

This new camera is being shipped on a first come, first served basis as stock is very limited.  We currently do not have store stock available for pick-up. All orders are for shipping only.  You will be e-mailed when new stock becomes available.

Hello.
I recently bought a gopro 3+ on ebay where the advert stated it came with a 60m waterproof case, I intend to take my camera on dives so require this, but the camera arrived with a 40m case.
On enquiry I was told there is no 60m case for the 3+ and I would have to exchange for a 3 if I wanted this accessory. Is this true?
I have also noticed that every go pro I see has a square port for the lense whereas mine has a round port, so no colour enhancing filters will fit. Why would this be?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi -

The round ring indicates a Hero 2 housing.

Hi there, I have just received my hero 3+ black camera and extra LCD screen. The only reason why I bought the LCD screen was so that when I am snorkeling the reefs in Egypt, Red Sea I can see what I am filming. So it was to my horror that I discovered that the back door for the LCD doesn't fit my camera!!!!! Please tell me what I can do to solve this HUGE PROBLEM? Will GoPro take the LCD BACK and refund me my money?

Hi Craig -

You can use the older housing with the LCD Touch BacPac that you have:

The GoPro Replacement Housing is a spare/replacement housing case for your GoPro HERO3 ((and also fits the new GoPro Hero3+)) camera. It affords maximum image clarity above and below water. Plus, it's waterproof down to a depth of 197' (60 m) and includes a Skeleton Backdoor.

Alternatively - you can purchase a GoPro LCD Touch BacPac Limited Edition to fit your new GoPro Hero3+  Black edition camera.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

Hi, there is 2 different skeleton housings, do they both work for hero3+ ?

Hi Johann -

Both GoPro Hero 3 skeleton housings fit the new Hero 3+ camera.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

What a jip. So gopro say the 3+ is 20% smaller. In actual fact, it's the housing that's smaller and not the camera. If you have an LCD touch screen or battery pack, sure you can use it on the 3+, but the back doors don't fit. So, gopros answer, is to put it back in a standard 3 housing. What's the point, and why can't go pro make a new back door to accommodate the LCD on the 3+. May as well just buy a standard 3', because your 20% reduction isn't worth squat if you wanna use an LCD or battery pack!

GoPro is all about the housing, I mean it's what makes it that iconic gopro and the housing is 20% smaller so it's not a jib.
There are new Backpacs and LCD backs in production for this slimmer housing in the meantime you can use your old one though right, anyway cheer up Mark you sound like Mr Negative.

Hi, I recently bought a Hero 3+, then bought a back up battery and LCD viewer for the back of camera. I wanted to change out the back door to secure things but when I did this, I noticed the casing that came with my Hero 3+ is smaller then the extra casings that came with the battery pac and the LCD Screen, so nothing fits. Am I doing something wrong or are there different casings. Ive spent ALOT of money on this and for things not hook up right is kinda maddening. Can you please make things right, or tell me what to do? Thank you

Hi Jim -

The GoPro HERO3 Skeleton Housing is similar to the regular GoPro camera housing, but it has open side panels that provide access to the HERO3 cable connection points. It can be used for live-feed video, charging while recording, keeping the camera cool during shoots and more. It's also the GoPro camera housing best suited to capture enhanced audio if you're recording at low speeds where wind won't be an issue. The housing is compatible with the GoPro HERO3 only and it's intended for use in dry environments only since it is not waterproof.

The Hero 3 housing is the same size as the back doors for the battery and screen add-ons.  The 3+ housing is 20% smaller and will not fit the extended back doors.

The GoPro Replacement Housing is a spare/replacement housing case for your GoPro HERO3 camera. It affords maximum image clarity above and below water. Plus, it's waterproof down to a depth of 197' (60 m) and includes a Skeleton Backdoor.

Hi,

I bought a Hero 3+ Black edition and a Bacpac video monitor.

The bacpac video  monitor  would not fit into the newer 20% smaller case to make the whole case waterproof.

You have made the Hero case 20% smaller than the standard housing but so far I haven't seen a larger  rear door to house the camera and the monitor or a higher capacity  battery

Could you please tell me  know if this  larger door  will be available in the future?

Kind regards,

Ernie.

Hi Ernie -

Unfortunately we do not know if GoPro will be offering a new backdoor assembly for the newer, smaller GoPro Hero 3+ case.  The LCD BacPac will fit the older version of the case:
