Inspiration can come at you from many angles and, unfortunately, recording the colors around you for later use is notoriously difficult, especially for professional photographers, digital artists, and videographers. Quite often, that perfect shade you saw in nature or on a man-made object loses its vibrancy and changes its tone when captured with a conventional camera. SwatchMate’s Cube is a specialized device that allows you to record highly accurate color data for any physical object. The Cube uses L*a*b*, RGB, and CMYK sensing to record color as accurately as possible, and even senses temperature and ambient light for more precise readings.
The compact Cube fits in the palm of your hand, and records simply by placing it against the object and pressing a button. This data can them be sent to a free companion app over Bluetooth that lets you store and organize your colors by project, color family, and more. The app syncs with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as color and paint databases, so you can paint a canvas, a room, or a digital file with exactly the color you want.
Weighing less than two ounces, the Cube is small and light enough to carry around for whenever inspiration strikes. Its internal memory holds up to 20 colors, and the rechargeable battery can capture up to 7,000 times or stand by for three months. A protective lens cap also serves as a recalibration surface.
