IK Multimedia unleashed a fresh batch of new iOS and iPad-centric accessories at NAMM 2012, which can help you do everything, from recording excellent-quality sound directly into your Apple device, to mixing songs on separate media players with a purpose-built iPad hardware DJ mixer. There's even a new iPad holder that allows you to mount your tablet firmly to your desktop so you can operate without it slip-sliding away. Here’s a breakdown of IK Multimedia’s latest from NAMM 2012.

The iRig PRE

Ever want to plug a professional microphone into an iOS device? That’s exactly what the new iRig PRE enables you to do. It’s a simple, lightweight adapter with a female XLR input. The output is a short, hardwired cable with a 3.5mm male connector that you attach to the headset jack on your Apple device. A gain dial on the side of the iRig PRE allows you to adjust the level required, and a switch lets you supply the attached microphone with phantom power (a 9-volt battery is required for using phantom power). A headphone output on the body lets you listen as you record or sing. Two free IK Multimedia apps are included: iRig Recorder (a user-friendly audio recording app) and VocalLive (which lets singers belt it out with vocal effects processing).

Output Male 3.5mm TRRS
Headphone Female 3.5mm stereo
Cable Length 15.75" (40 cm)
Controls Gain dial, phantom power switch

The iRig MIC Cast

Ever wish you had a tiny, portable external microphone that did an excellent job of capturing the sound of your voice into an Apple gadget? That’s exactly what the iRig MIC Cast does. This is a truly miniature accessory that’s just a little bit larger than a coin. A male 3.5mm jack protrudes from the bottom of the iRig MIC Cast, which plugs directly into the iOS device of your choice. A 3.5mm headphone output enables you to listen as you record. It features a tight pick-up pattern, which will cut down on ambient noise. It’s a handy little tool for remote podcasting, interviews and conference calls. A compact and adjustable iPhone/iPod touch desk stand is included, as are the iRig Recorder and VocalLive apps.

Connector Male 3.5mm TRRS jack
Output Female 3.5mm headphone

The iRig STOMP

Ever wish you could integrate the guitar apps on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad into your existing guitar-pedal board or rig? That’s exactly what the new iRig STOMP lets you do. It’s designed to fit right into your setup, complete with a foot-controlled bypass button. One side of the iRig STOMP features a standard 1/4" guitar input, and the opposite side can be used as either a regular mono 1/4" output to connect to another pedal or amp, or stereo 1/4" outputs to connect to a mixer. The rear of the iRig STOMP features a dedicated jack to connect to your iDevice, and a separate dedicated headphone output. There’s also a gain knob on the face of the iRig STOMP, so you can dial in the proper level for your guitar to balance it out with the rest of your rig. Once you’re all connected, stepping on the iRig STOMP inserts any guitar apps running on your Apple gadget into the chain like any other effects pedal would. IK Multmedia’s popular guitar app AmpliTube is included, so you can play a fine assortment of virtual guitar amps and effects right away.

The iKlip Studio

Ever wish you could place an iPad or an iPad 2 on your work surface, and be able to adjust its angle and operate it intensively, without it moving around? That’s exactly what the new iKlip Studio lets you do. Music-making apps are a big deal nowadays, and there are plenty of apps that inspire the user to get lost in the performance. Drum triggering and keyboard apps require a good bit of physical interaction, so an iPad stand is required that will hold your iPad firmly in place, so you can concentrate on the music. The iKlip Studio enables you to quickly reposition your iPad in either landscape or portrait orientation. It has a lightweight and non-marring thermoplastic construction with non-slip rubber feet for terrific stability. A detachable iRig bracket is included so you can tuck your iRig out of the way. The iKlip Studio also collapses flat for easy traveling.

You can crossfade between songs, cue, tweak EQ and levels and even patch in your voice with an external microphone. A free DJing app is included called DJ Rig, which has a mode called “X-Sync.” X-Sync can automatically sync the tempos of the songs playing on the connected devices. The iRig MIX also comes with the AmpliTube, VocaLive and GrooveMaker apps. It’s small enough to fit into a basic iPad bag and it only requires 5VDC of power to operate, meaning that it can use the bus power from a standard USB port or your iOS charger to rock until the break of dawn.
