The New, Diminutive Sony Cyber-shot HX50V Digital Camera

Share

Sony has announced a new long zoom, high-performance point-and-shoot camera: the Cyber-shot HX50V Digital Camera. With a 20.4MP BSI Exmor R CMOS sensor and the BIONZ Image Processor, sharp imagery, low-light sensitivity, quick performance, and fast autofocus speeds are part and parcel. Its Sony G 30x optical zoom lens offers the 35mm equivalent focal length of a 24-720mm lens, which is an impressively broad range that incorporates true wide-angle to super-telephoto lengths. Most notably, the Cyber-shot HX50V is currently the smallest 30x zoom camera available.

The camera supports Full HD video capture at 1080/60p and also features smaller video file sizes in both the AVCHD and MP4 formats. A dedicated video-record button starts shooting video immediately, and with dual-record capability, you can shoot photos and videos simultaneously. Stereo audio is provided via the built-in microphone, and a wind-cut option is available, too. A 3.0” LCD monitor with 921k-dot resolution allows for clear image composition and playback.

Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity enables instant transfer of images from your camera to your computer, smartphone, or tablet and, with the free Sony PlayMemories App, you can send images directly to your favorite social media sites and use your smartphone as a remote control or viewfinder for your camera. A GPS function is also provided to mark the geographic location of each of your images.

The HX50V offers numerous high-performance features, including Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, which reduces the appearance of camera shake and blur by countering camera movements in both horizontal and vertical directions when shooting photos. Active 3-way stabilization adds digital rolling control to counter clockwise and anti-clockwise rotation, resulting in more stable videos, even at long focal lengths. Other professional-level features include full manual exposure control with P/A/S/M modes, an EV compensation dial, 10 fps continuous shooting at full resolution, and a multi-interface hot-shoe mount for connecting an electronic viewfinder or external flash unit.

Automatic and assistive features are also provided, as this is a camera designed for photographers of all levels. With Intelligent Auto mode, the camera is a classic point-and-shoot, making adjustments automatically based on the scene it recognizes. Intelligent Auto incorporates all of the camera’s automatic settings to provide great shots, even in difficult lighting conditions. Tracking Focus keeps the focus locked on a moving subject, and Background Defocus, Blink Detection, Face Detection, and Smile Shutter Technology will provide the optimal exposure, balance, and timing to get the portrait or group shot you want—on the first take.  A built-in pop-up flash is also incorporated. In addition, Picture Effects and In-camera Editing allow you to add creative touches to your stills and videos. Power Save Mode adjusts the settings to provide the longest-lasting charge duration for the camera’s rechargeable NP-BX1 lithium-ion battery pack.
