The New Lumix DMC-FZ70 Digital Camera: 60x Optical Zoom

Panasonic has announced their latest high zoom bridge camera. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 Digital Camera features a 60x optical zoom lens with the 35mm focal length equivalent of 20-1200mm, which covers everything from true wide-angle to ultra-telephoto focal lengths.

This lens, which is wider and more powerful than its predecessor’s 24x optical zoom lens, is truly all-encompassing and able to incorporate wide landscape scenes or the whole family gathered around the dinner table and capture close-ups of distant wildlife or sports scenes. In addition to its powerful zoom capability, the lens on the FZ70 offers a maximum aperture range of f/2.8-5.9 and the camera provides POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilization) to compensate for camera shake, enabling you to create blur-free images even at its longest focal lengths. The Active Mode of the POWER O.I.S. function works while shooting HD video and reduces the all-too-common camera shake that accompanies videos made while moving unintentionally.

The sensor housed in the FZ70 is a new 16.1MP High Sensitivity 1/2.3” Back Side Illuminated MOS sensor, which provides high-resolution imaging, is sensitive in low-light situations and cuts noise by 10-15% over previous Lumix FZ models. The sensor works with the Venus Engine image processor for fast response times including up to 9 frame-per-second burst shooting. This combination also enables an Intelligent Digital zoom system, which reaches up to 120x zoom for extreme long-distance capture and a High Sensitivity range that reaches ISO 6400 for effective shooting in low-light conditions.

The Lumix DMC-FZ70 records full HD 1080i video at 60 fps in the AVCHD codec and 1080p at 30 fps in the MP4 format. Use the AVCHD format for high-quality movies and the MP4 format for when you just expect to put your video up online. A separate button on the camera’s top plate lets you instantly start recording videos while in photo mode—and you can still shoot stills while recording a video. In Creative Video Mode you can manually adjust shutter speed and aperture while shooting in order to have even greater control over your outcome. The Dolby Digital stereo audio recording on the FZ70 is particularly noteworthy, as is the built-in microphone, which zooms when the lens zooms to reduce ambient noise and record specific distant sounds or conversations. Also, the microphone features a newly developed sealed-structure Wind Shield that minimizes wind noise for a clearer overall sound.

For image composition and playback the FZ70 has both an electronic viewfinder and a large LCD monitor. The LCD monitor measures 3.0” with a 460k-dot resolution and, for stable eye-level composition, the 0.20” electronic viewfinder offers 100% field of view and 202k-dot resolution. The camera provides a comfortable bridge-style form factor with a large handgrip and easy access to controls. It features a pop-up flash and a hot-shoe mount for connecting an external flash unit or other accessories.

The FZ70 is a camera for both the advanced and novice photographer. For the advanced shooter, there is RAW image capture, high-speed burst rates, and manual exposure control. For the beginner, iAuto adjusts all of the camera’s controls based on the image it reads and lets you focus on composition and getting your subjects to smile. For a blend of auto and manual control, iAuto Plus mode provides control over background focus, exposure compensation and white balance with just a simple move of the slider bar. In-camera Creative Controls and Creative Retouch let you easily add a flourish of creativity to your images with 15 filter effects. Either before or after you have taken your photo you can add a Retro look, a Soft Focus or a Toy Effect, for example. Several of the 15 effects can also be added to videos and, with Creative Panoramic Effects, you can easily shoot panoramic images and add filter effects, too.

With its powerful 60x optical zoom lens, full HD 1080/60i video capture with Dolby Digital sound, an ergonomically designed compact body, and a wealth of assistive and creative functions, the Lumix DMC-FZ70 is a camera that can provide pro-level imaging with user-friendly control.

Can I switch lents? Like put a different lents

The Panasonic DMC-FZ70 is a point and shoot camera, so its lens is built-in.  It would not be possible to switch out lenses with this or any other point and shoot.

Is there a WiFi or blue tooth adaptor available for this camera?

There is not an adapter available that would provide these features for the FZ70.  However for wireless transmission of images you could use a WiFi SD Memory Card. Any Eyefi would be full compatible and recommended.

hai dear i'm from Pakistan' i want to buy this camera' what is the latest price of this' please send me it's price through given email. thanks' regards Farooq Khan' Ph'  +923336762956

Hi Farooq -

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 Digital Camera

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:

I'm interested-in this camera.

Panasonic FZ70 is one of the advance camera for perfect photography and video capturing. As per its specification this is the best camera to capture special moment and events and outing photographs.

Those who are in planing to buy the new generation camera than FZ 70 is the best camera. Grab it and feel the difference.

Need help deciding on a super zoom point-and-shoot.  Have Nikon D600 and I just went on a safari.  I am getting too old to carry around the lenses.  would like to get a point-and-shoot.  i have read a lot today and am oscillating between Olympus SP-100 and the Lumix DMC-FZ70.  The Olympus reviewer (Gordon's pick) highly touted the camera but camera does not do RAW images.  But said the aperture was a constant 2.8.  I am also intrigued by the Lumix.  My goal:  lighter camera with super zoom, great image quality in all dayight situations.  Just need guidance.  maybe i am not asking the correct questions.  I print photos up to 17 x 20 on my Epson 3800 printer.  All just a hobby for me and photos are taken and printed for gifts.  any help would be appreciated.  I take animal photos:  cats, dogs, birds, etc.  i take landscape photos and people.

The Panasonic FZ70 would be a good camera solution based on the criteria you have mentioned.  FUji also offers a similar model which has great image quality and performance, which I feel is worth considering.  It shoots RAW images and also features a super zoom ranged lens.  See the following link for details on the recommendation:

How low in lux will this camera take a usable picture at 60X zoom.. tks tony

Approx. 9 lx (when i-Low light is used, the shutter speed is 1/30th of a second). 9 lux is slightly darker than twilight, but brighter than a full moon.

How much?

Our site is live with pricing and stock.  That being said, you can find the current price for the Lumix DMC-FZ70 on the camera’s page on our site.

When will this model be upgraded with WIFI, as it is hard to hold it really steady

Unfortunately manufacturers never inform us of their future products or intentions prior to any official announcement.  We would learn of new models on the same day as you would.  As far as your comment after the question goes, its worth noting that Wi-Fi has nothing to do with the camera’s stability or holding it steady.  Wi-Fi allows the camera to wirelessly transfer images and perhaps control certain aspects of the camera, but would not cause the camera to be better balanced.  If there was a different feature you are referring to let us know.  You may email us at for more detailed responses.
