Sony has announced a new point and shoot, the DSC-TX55 Cyber-shot. It’s loaded with a 16.2 megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and a host of other new features. Thin enough to slip into a shirt pocket, the DSC-TX55 is only 12.2mm thick.
Even so, it packs a Carl Zeiss 5x optical zoom lens, and Sony’s exclusive By Pixel Super Resolution technology is said to boost zoom magnification to 10x without decreasing the number of pixels in captured images. High-speed autofocus can lock onto a subject in as little as 0.1 second.
A Dual Record function on the DSC-TX55 lets you capture 12MP level still images while recording HD video. A Picture Effect mode offers a range of in-camera image enhancements including HDR Painting, Rich-tone Monochrome, Miniature, Toy Camera, Partial Color, Pop Color and Soft High-key. You can immediately see how the effects affect your photos on the camera’s 3.3-inch widescreen OLED touch panel display.
Other neat features of the DSC-TX55 include SteadyShot image stabilization for stills and video, an Intelligent Sweep Panorama mode that captures 42.9 megapixel panoramas and a 3D Still Image function that causes the camera to take two consecutive shots used to create a three-dimensional still image. The camera will be available in black, red, silver and violet finishes, in September.
