Nikon has announced seven new cameras to join the ranks of their lauded COOLPIX line of compact digital cameras. From fully-loaded advanced performance cameras that handle like DSLRs to all-weather point-and-shoots, this batch of cameras is feature-heavy and offers something for everyone.

The COOLPIX P520 Digital Camera is a “bridge” style advanced performance digital camera that combines the features of a DSLR with those of a point-and-shoot camera. It houses an 18.1MP CMOS sensor, able to create high-resolution photos and Full HD 1080p video. It is particularly adept in low-light situations and its undeniably powerful NIKKOR 42x optical zoom lens provides focal lengths from true wide angle to ultra telephoto, 24-1000mm in the 35mm format. Its maximum lens aperture of f/3.0 at the wide-angle end will allow for clear imaging in low light and sharp portraiture with a nicely out-of-focus background. In addition, Vibration Reduction (VR) image stabilization compensates for the hand movement that can blur images taken at long focal lengths, and in low light settings. Manual exposure control (P, A, S, M) provides the type of pro-level control that can create gorgeous images in the most difficult shooting situations. Its Full HD video records in stereo sound and the included EG-CP16 cable allows you to watch your videos on an HDTV. A 3.2" Vari-angle LCD can tilt and flip into various positions, allowing you to shoot at odd angles and view your images no matter what the lighting conditions. A 0.2" (0.5 cm) 201k-dot Electronic Viewfinder is also available for composition.

As a “bridge” camera, its design offers a solid grip with which to hold your camera, accessible dials and a durable build. The P520 features a built-in GPS for geo-tagging your images, and is compatible with the optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter, which can provide wireless transfer of images to smartphones.  When you download the Wireless Mobile Utility application, you get a host of other functions, including direct upload to social networking sites and camera remote control from your smart phone. It is available in black, red and silver.

From extra wide-angle to super-telephoto, the 30x Optical Zoom lens on the COOLPIX L820 Digital Camera offers the type of range that would require multiple lenses on a DSLR camera. It provides the 35mm focal-length equivalency of a 22.5-675mm lens. That’s versatility. It has a 16MP CMOS sensor for sharp imaging and the type of performance to let you shoot confidently in low-light situations without a flash. (Just in case, it does have a built-in pop-up flash with TTL control.) The lens’s maximum aperture of f/3.0 at the wide-angle end and Vibration Reduction image stabilization increase its effectiveness in low light. The L820 also supports Full HD 1080p video recording with stereo sound and an HDMI connection for HDTV viewing at all resolutions. It provides a 3.0" 921k-dot LCD with 5-level brightness adjustment, and a stable, DSLR-like grip with ergonomic access to key controls, including a dedicated video mode button. Select Easy Auto Mode offers fully automatic functioning and in-camera effects allow you to add numerous creative touches to your images. It’s available in red and black.

The above two “bridge” cameras provide long zoom lenses in DSLR-like bodies, which offer stability and direct access to controls. The COOLPIX S9500 Digital Camera, available in black, red and silver, also has a long 22x Optical Zoom lens; however, its form factor is decidedly more compact. It also features built-in Wi-Fi capability! With an 18.1MP CMOS sensor that provides high-resolution imaging, fast continuous shooting and a lens that reaches from 25mm wide-angle to a 550mm (35mm equivalent) super-telephoto with Image Stabilization, you have a powerful, versatile camera that can literally fit in your pocket. It supports Full HD 1080p video at 30 frames per second with a one-touch dedicated button and HDMI output. As mentioned, it also has built-in Wi-Fi for immediate image sharing and saving and a built-in GPS system to record the location of each of your shots and provide mapping and Electronic Compass functions. The Smart Portrait System combines several features to automatically create flattering shots of friends and family; Easy Panorama makes one-touch seamless panoramas. A pop-up flash, a 3.0" OLED touch-screen display with 5-level brightness adjustment, thumb grip and easy-to-control dials complement its stylish, compact form.

A bit smaller, the COOLPIX S5200 Digital Camera is available in black, red, blue and plum. It has a 16MP CMOS sensor and a NIKKOR 6x Optical Zoom lens, which is equivalent to a 26-156mm lens in the 35mm format. Enabled with one-touch Full HD 1080p video and full stereo audio, this compact camera offers the major features of cameras twice its size as well as numerous assistive functions to make shooting easy. The S5200 has built-in Wi-Fi connectivity for easy transfer to smartphones and other Wi-Fi enabled devices, a 3.0" Clear Color LCD, VR image stabilization and a 3D mode. Made for any level of photographer, it offers Scene Auto Selector and Subject Tracking to make capturing tough shots easier.

The COOLPIX L28 Digital Camera features a 20.1MP CCD sensor, a 5x Optical Zoom lens (equivalent to 26-130mm in the 35mm format) and 720p HD video capture with a one-touch dedicated button. A 3.0" LCD with 5-level brightness provides composition and playback viewing, and VR image stabilization improves performance by compensating for camera shake to provide sharper images in low light. A true point-and-shoot, the L28 offers Easy Auto Mode, Motion Detection and 20 different Scene Modes, which allow you to set the camera to the type of scene you will shoot (beach, night portrait, sunset, etc.) and have the camera set all adjustments for optimal results. With in-camera Image Effects you can touch up your shots with creative and funky effects. Also, the L28 is conveniently powered by two AA batteries. It is available in black, red and silver.

The COOLPIX series also includes cameras that excel in extreme weather situations and are able to withstand the damage that the most adventurous of us can inflict. The COOLPIX AW110 Digital Camera is waterproof to 59' (18 m), shockproof to 6.6' (2 m) and freeze proof to 14° F (-10° C). Basically, it can go anywhere and come back with awesome images. It offers a 16MP 1/2.3" CMOS sensor to produce high-resolution photos at up to 8 frames per second. It can shoot Full HD 1080p video with stereo recording and HDMI output. Built-in Wi-Fi allows you to wirelessly transfer images from your camera to your computer or smartphone and share them instantly, and GPS functionality allows you to record the location data of all your images. Its GPS functions also include built-in mapping, electronic compassing and Points of Interest (POI), which can direct you to landmarks and vistas that you will want to photograph. The AW110 has a 5x Optical Zoom lens, equivalent to a 28-140mm lens in the 35mm format, and Vibration Reduction image stabilization to compensate for the effects of camera shake in low light or when dangling from a cliff face. A 3.0" touch panel OLED screen and knobby buttons make working the camera easy. Subject Tracking, Motion Detection and a built-in flash help when shooting fast subjects, too. It’s available in black, blue, orange, and of course, camouflage.

The COOLPIX S31 Digital Camera is a tough, stylish camera with enough colors to appeal to each member of the family. Featuring a stylish, minimalist design with oversized, easy-to-access buttons, it is available in blue, brown, pink, yellow and white. It features a 10.1MP sensor, a 3x optical zoom lens (29-87mm in the 35mm format) and can capture HD video at 720p. Easy Auto functions equal simple operation and VR image stabilization means even tough shots come out clear with this camera. A 2.7" LCD provides composition and playback and an in-camera slideshow function that plays music adds some fun to playback. It is designed to last and can be used anywhere. It is waterproof to 16.4' (5.0 m) and shockproof to 3.9' (1.2 m) which makes it a great camera for vacations and for everyday life.

I be very carefull buy new COOLPIX NIKON camera. I ready owe Nikon COOLPIX
510. I'm not happy due to lack quality like auto mode, and auto focus. Lot
images with this mode are not sharp. Picture sharpness in COOlPIX 510 is serious
problem, and I think was fixed in new models CoolPix like P520.

I see NIKON made new models like "Hot Dog" but some improvements is little
noticeable, and major problem like focus, sharp the pictures do nothing.

I have old CoolPix L5 and work lot better like this all new one.

I newer buy again Nikon camera in whole because that problems.

Ted.

nikon what are u thinking ? look at the market around you look at your competition. ok the new P520 got a swivel screen so what u got a 1/2.3 sensor crammed with 18mp if the P510 with 16 made nose at iso 800 and above what u think those 18mp going to do ? so what if u lower the iso 80 and u did not increase the zoom and u did not change the aperture so the p520 is just the p510 all over agein the only differance is the screen and 18mp so sad and lazy. why dont u give us something thats never been done before ????? how about u stick the same sensor and aperture as the p7700 in your other P-series that would be something that alot of loyal fans would buy and new buyers would wont can u see the p320 the replacement of the p310 with the big sensor and 12mp with the f/1.8 lens or the P520 with f/2.8 lens with that size of sensor and that reach ? nikon i do not know what you are thinking i am a nikon dslr photographer i use a coolpix cameras to go on vacation with since the s9100 and the p 300 they have not improve nothing or made any differance just made them with more megapixels on a small sensor that is nothing but noise makers guess i am going to go to another brand. for my point and shoot
