New Arrival: Optoma PK320 Pico Projector with Microsoft Office Viewer
When the software you need to view your documents is embedded in the projector itself, you don’t necessarily need to drag along a computer. And if the projector has internal memory for storing content, you don’t necessarily need a flash stick or memory card either. On both counts, the Optoma Technology PK320 Pico Pocket Projector may be just what you need for traveling light to a business presentation.
Whether you’re showing PowerPoint slides, Excel files or Word documents, you can leverage the Microsoft Office Viewer that Optoma has built into the hardware to play them. Your content is also covered if you plan to view Adobe PDF files, JPEG photos or BMP screen captures. If you have accompanying audio—including MP3, AAC, WMA or WAV tracks—they’re playable, too. And if you want to show video, the projector is compatible with AVI, MOV, MP4, WMV and ASF formats, among others. That’s a lot of intelligence packed into an 8.3-ounce pocket projector.
The connections are in place when you want to attach an external source device. They include USB, mini HDMI and composite video/stereo inputs as well as a microSD slot. There’s also a 24-pin universal port for attaching an included cable for receiving a VGA signal from a computer.
At 100 Lumens, the projector is on the bright end of the pico projector category, but the rating is still a fraction of the brightness put out by a typical classroom or home-theater projector. The picture presented by the PK320 is meant for viewing by a small group in a dark room. The model’s LED (RGB) lamp is expected to last more than 20,000 hours, making it essentially maintenance free.
The projector is powered by an AC adapter or rechargeable battery. The battery lasts about 90 minutes in Eco mode. An optional battery pack extends projection time at full brightness for up to two hours. Plus, a convenient remote is included.
If sound is important to your presentation—or if you want to share a movie—you may wish to add a set of external speakers to supplement the PK320’s 1-Watt internal speaker. For instance, the Sony SRS-M50/BLK Portable Speakers provide 2.5W x 2 of audio power with the supplied AC adapter and can run for 40 hours on three AAA batteries. The single stereo mini jack can be connected to the projector’s single audio out jack using a mini-jack to mini-jack cable, such as the Monster Cable iCable 800.
