The New Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype Camera for Viera HDTVs

Share

If you use Skype for real time video chatting (or if you’re curious and want to try it out), and you have an Internet-connected Panasonic Viera HDTV, there’s a new product that brings these two high-tech marvels together. The new Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype camera is designed to integrate with Viera HDTVs, and it manages to be more compact, better looking and capable of producing a higher-quality image than its previous generation.

Installation is as simple as plugging it into a high-speed USB 2.0 port on your Viera HDTV, affixing it magnetically to the top of your set, and logging into your Skype account. An integrated hinge allows you to fine-tune the angle of the camera and four unidirectional microphones work together to deliver clear sound to the people with whom you’re communicating. The previous generation of this camera was only capable of recording 22 frames per second in HD, but the new TY-CC20W is capable of 30. The lens has also been upgraded to provide better picture quality.

The new TY-CC20W has a more refined, sleek look, which will blend in better with your entertainment system. It’s nearly half as tall as before, and a good bit narrower. The styling and integration are seamless with Viera HDTVs, and it will look like this camera came from the factory installed on top of your TV.

Why hunch over a cumbersome laptop when you need to communicate with business associates, friends and loved ones? Share an excellent looking and great sounding version of yourself, while bringing an almost life-sized moving image of them live on your Viera HDTV, with the new Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype camera.

I purchased the TC-P55ST30 tv last week.  This week I ordered the TY-CC20W skype camera.  According to amazon's website (PDF), this newer 2012 model is compatiable with 2011 Viera Connect HDTV's.  I connect the camera and it does not recognize it.  Please advise.

Everywhere I've read, it's supposed to work.

Thanks,
Brandon

Is the ST30 capable of Skype after all?

Update by Panasonic in June 2012 to work with 2010 - 2011 TV's

Updated today  11 June 2012 on 2011 TV, working now  :)

Do you know if the camera TY-CC20W works with the Panasocic TV TXLF37E30.
Thanks

Hello -

This new  Panasonic Skype camera was redesigned for Panasonic's new 2012 television products.  At this point there seems to be no backward compatability with the 2011 models.  But there is a solution: The Logitech HD 720p TV Cam for Skype will experience plug-and-play simplicity. Once you log onto your Skype HD account, you’ll be able to start video calling.  See our B&H In Depth article for details. However, It is my understanding that Panasonic has recently certified this camera to work as well:

Panasonic FreeTalk Conference HD Camera Talk 7181

Panasonic USA may be contacted via telephone:  1-800-211-PANA.or via e-mail: http://bit.ly/JpqvCN

That said - At this time there is no indication that the TY-CC20W will be compatible with the Panasonic Europe model you have specified.

Which webcam will work with tx-p50vt30b? Will the tyccw10 or tyccw20 work? Or what about the Logitech webcam for HD tv?

Hello Amjid -

This Skype camera will work with 2011 and 2012 VIERA Connect enabled TVs. 2011 TV models may require a firmware update for the camera to work: http://bit.ly/NkJy3k

Your TV is a 2011 UK model that may not be supported by this Panasonic USA accessory.

Hi,

Do you know if this camera would work with Panasonic DMP-BDT310 blu-ray?
I have the latest (I believe) firmware 1.88 installed.

I could get the older model (CC10W) but it's hard to get now and more expensive besides.

Thank you

Do you mean the camera (TY-CC20W) has been updated to work with 2010-2011 TV's, or is there a firmware upgrade for the TV's to work with the camera?

Mark S at B&H Photo,

What Skype cameras are compatible with a Panasonic DMP-DBT215 Blu-Ray player?

(Television is Panasonic TH-42PZ77U, but I think that is irrelevant if going through the Blu-Ray player)

TY-CC10W? TY-CC20W? Other Panasonic cameras? Any Non-Panasonic?

Thank you,

Ham

Hello Ham -

The SKYPE feature can be accessed only with Panasonic's TY-CC10W Webcam which is now discontinued.   However, It is my understanding that Panasonic has recently certified this camera to work as well:

Will Skype camera TY-CC20W ever work with Plasma TV TXP42VT30E if a new software for this TV is installed?

Hello Rastislav -

At this time there is no indication that the TY-CC20W will be compatible with the Panasonic Europe model TXP42VT30E. As far as I can determine, this camera is for specific USA models only.  Panasonic may be able to furnish more details:  1-800-211-PANA  or via e-mail: http://bit.ly/JpqvCN

I would like to use this camera (TY-CC20W) with a new Panasonic TC - P65VT50. I have the TV connected to my home theater receiver for sound, and have the internal speakers in the television disabled. My default sources are either a Tivo or a PS3 DVD player, both connected via HDMI to the receiver. Is there a way to have this camera work for Skype through the television and have the sound come out through the receiver to the speakers?

Thanks.

Hello -

It sounds like you have the connections already hooked up correctly.  Please contact us via e-mail if you need more help:  AskBH@Bandh.com

Well it is all connected, but the only way to hear the other party over Skype seems to be through the television speaker. I was hoping to hear them through the speakers connected to the receiver. Is that possible?

Hello - Double check that the connections are correct and you have switched the internal TV speakers off and your receiver is switched properly to process audio via HDMI from your TV - then you should be OK. Double check your receiver's audio input selection and the HDMI connection. If you continue to have problems - please e-mail us at AskBH@BandH.com.

I have same situation as you. Camera (TY-CC20W) with a new Panasonic TC - P65VT30. Camera works perfect with TV. Only camera I know of the plugs into TV USB. Panasonic Camera is exclusive to TV as regular camera will not work. I have Pioneer SC-67 reciver I am trying to get sound to. I don't believe it's going to work after all the different trials I've done. Firstly your suppose to use TV audio out with adaptor and a optical cable to reciever opt input. On the SC-67 I even have a opt 1 TV input. Still did not work when I set up. Even tried different settings on reciver and no go. TV does not have any anolog outs for me to try that route. Although the camera does work well with TV and swiches with reciever on and off. I can live with that. No one has been able to provide complete instruction settings as I've inquired on forums, with panasonic and pioneer. Seems like I'm on my own. I am convinced now no sound will transfere to reciever for camera

Hi, does this camera work with the panasonic freeview+ HD boxes?

Hello -

The devices you have specified are distributed in the UK and Ireland and are not supported directly by this camera.  Panasonic provides a cross-reference tool that lists the compatible Panasonic VIERA 2010/ 2011/ 2012-year Television Models for UK and Ireland.  If you have additional questions please e-mail us at:  AskBH@BandH.com

Is this compatible with TC-P55VT30?

Hello -

This device is designed for the newer 2012 Panasonic Veira Series televisions.  That said,  Panasonic's latest information seems to indicate: "Which TVs are compatible with this Skype Camera? This Skype camera will work with 2011 and 2012 VIERA Connect enabled TVs. 2011 TV models may require a firmware update for the camera to work." http://bit.ly/NkJy3k

Is this camera compatible with the P42V20V series in the Philippines?

Hello,

I am sorry, we do not know. You will have to check with Panasonic locally to see if it is compatible.

We are buying this camera for our new Viera TV. I cannot find any specification as to the camera's angle of view. We're setting up in a 12' x 18' conference room with a long conference table.

Would the TV and camera be better set up on the 12' wall looking down the 10' table in the 18'-long room? The nearest person would be about 4' from the camera, and the furthest person at the far end would be 14' away, and each row of persons along the sides of the table would be about 5' from each other.
or . . .
on the 18' wall looking at the broad side of the table. The table is 10' long. The nearest person would be about 4' from the camera, the furthest person about 9' directly across from the camera. If participants were at each end of the table, they'd be separated by about 13' and would be about 6' out from the wall.

I bought this camera to work with the Panasonic BDT220 Skype-enabled Blu-Ray player, but it causes a significant echo on the other person's line. We troubleshooted it by keeping the volume low, moving the camera away from the speakers, switching all but one speaker off, changing the output to Mono, etc. but the echo still persists, frustrating anyone we call with it.

Be aware that both Panasonic and Skype have very limited customer service (Skype has a questionable "chat service" and the Panasonic reps were completely confused by our problem). In the end both parties just pointed fingers at each other and the issue was never solved.

This was a good idea, but the product just doesn't work as advertised.

Bought A Panasonic TYcc20w for our Panasonic TC-P55ST50. Have TV & BluRay set up through a receiver with ceiling speakers.
Cannot get Skype audio/video test to work - no volume and video is very dark. What are we doing wrong?

Hello -

Acccording to Panasonic, this camera is compatible with these models:

This Skype camera will work with 2011 and 2012 VIERA Connect enabled TVs. 2011 TV models may require a firmware update for the camera to work.  Have you downloaded the firmware update?    If you have downloaded the firmware upgrade,  rebooted the camera and the TV and you have an active Skype account  - and the camera still does not work  -  please contact Pansonic directly for support:  1-800-211-PANA.

Will the TY-CC20W work with my TC-P50G25 TV

Hello Jerome -

The new  Panasonic TY-CC20W Skype Camera is not compatible with your PanasonicTC-P50G25.  However, this older and now discontinued camera is compatible with your TV:

Panasonic Skype Enabled Communication Camera (TY-CC10W).  Panasonic's TY-CC10W Webcam is special as it not only plays nice with computers, but works on VIERA TVs as well, letting you communicate via Skype over a Panasonic VIERA TV if you happen to own one. Connecting to your VIERA plasma panel via USB, this compact unit sends and receives HD 1280 x 720 video and captures your voice clearly with four unidirectional microphones.

This camera from Logitech is alsocompatible but it also discontinued:  Logitech HD 720p TV Cam for Skype (Mfr# 960-000683)

Panasonic still offer this one however:

Panasonic FreeTalk Conference HD Camera Talk 7181

Panasonic may be contacted via telephone:  1-800-211-PANA.

Please contact us via e-mail if you have additional questions:  AskBH@BandH.com

Is the newer panasonic TY-CC20W skype camera compatible with Panasonic Viera TH-P42V20 Plasma TV with the firmware update? The TV's Manual lists only the TY-CC10W camera (The CC20W was naturally not available in 2010 when the V20 series was launched)

Hi Kris:

The Panasonic FreeTalk Conference HD Camera Talk 7181 should work with your Panasonic Viera TH-P42V20 (Australia/New Zealand model).  It is not supported by the TY-CC20W.

Panasonic may be contacted via telephone: 1-800-211-PANA.

Make sure you pressed the TV button on the remote and are not on AV It's on the top right next to the AV button Then make sure you turn the volume up.

We just had the same issue, and found that the camera will not send audio through an external speaker. It must run through the television speakers...and if you are like us, we turned the television speaker off to enjoy our surround sound system. So unfortunately, you have to turn the tv speakers on (or up if you just turned the volume way down) when receiving or making a skype call.
Hope this helps!

A.

Make sure that your receiver is plugged into a hdmi port which supports ARC (audio return channel). On my gt50 this is annoyingly the HDMI 2. Otherwise if the st50 has an optical out, use that into your receiver.

I have a p50st50 and cannot get the video to work when making a video call. I can see the camera work when I adjust the settings, but not when I do a test call or actual call. The audio works great and I can see the video of the person I am speaking. They can only hear me and see my profile image, which I took with the camera. I've spent 40 minutes with Panasonic and they could not assist in the end. Does anyone have any suggestions?
