Share

The Leica V-Lux 40 digital camera is a highly compact and efficient point and shoot, designed to be carried with you at all times, while delivering high-quality photographs and video. This camera features a 14.1-megapixel 1/2.33” CMOS sensor for superb image quality, low light sensitivity to ISO 3200, and an extended dynamic range for greater detail. The built-in f/3.3-6.4 DC Vario-Elmar lens has an effective zoom range of 24-480mm (35mm equivalent), giving you tremendous versatility for capturing subjects near and far. The quick-performing autofocus is capable of acquiring focus in 0.1 seconds, which is complemented by the ability to record up to 10 full-resolution images per second.

In addition to the more than capable still-image performance, the V-Lux 40 can also capture Full HD 1080p video in either the AVCHD format or Internet-friendly MP4 format. Playback and monitoring are available on the bright, clear 3.0” 460.8K-dot touch screen LCD, which also offers intuitive navigation of all the camera functions. Additionally, this camera features an integrated GPS module for tracking your journeys and plotting them on detailed maps once at home. Also included with the V-Lux 40 are Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 and Premiere Elements 10 software packages, which give you the ability to further craft your images and video through post-production work on your computer.

leica v lux 40

I bought a V Lux 40 camera in 2012 and a few months ago it started to present a System Error (Zoom) message at the screen. I sent it to Leica US customer service and the answer was: " our camera has been evaluated by our technician and found to require a new lens assembly. It is with great regret that I inform you that we no longer have that part available to repair the camera. The camera cannot be repaired."

After a few days my brother in law, that bought the same camera showed me his Leica with the same problem. I sent a message to Leica US telling them that maybe it was a problem subject to a recall and the message from them: "The camera cannot be repaired - parts are no available."

The only solution that they gave me was a US$ 100 discount buying a new different model. Is this a customer service attitude from a top brand as Leica?

I've had the same problem with my V-LUX40. Actually two of them. I sent mine in for the system error and they offered me a like new refurbished replacement. I agreed to take it. 600 photos later it now has the same system error.

How do we get a resonable refund from Leica? They stopped producing this camera and we all know why. It was built with a defect in it.

Leica USA says to send this one back and they will then see about a discount on another Leica camera. They have nothing similar to this. I loved this camera when it worked.

Sad and mad.
