Jobu Design Pro2 Gimbal Head
The Jobu Design Pro2 gimbal head is the latest flagship of Jobu’s well-regarded Black Widow line of gimbal heads, which are crucial for supporting extremely heavy, long lenses. This Pro2 version is lighter than its predecessor by a couple of ounces, and it’s also quite a bit stiffer and stronger. The head supports over 35 pounds, so it’s more than capable of bearing any lens and DSLR camera combination you’re able to mount on its swing arm.
Wildlife photographers know the importance of a gimbal head for supporting long telephoto lenses when they’re stalking and shooting their “prey.” A gimbal head suspends the weight of a long lens below the axis of the gimbal head’s swing arm. This establishes much better stability than balancing such a heavy load on the single point of a ball head. Even when all locking knobs are loose on a gimbal, the camera and lens are well supported from underneath; the swing arm’s Arca-compatible clamp secures the lens foot at the center of gravity of the camera and lens. This way the operator can tilt and rotate the lens easily on the swing arm—even with a single finger—to reposition quickly.
