New Fujifilm 14mm f/2.8 and 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 XF Lenses Round Out Lineup
Fujifilm has recently released two more lenses to further round out their expanding lineup of XF lenses for use on the X series interchangeable-lens cameras. These lenses, the XF 14mm f/2.8 R and the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 R LM OIS, complement the existing three prime XF lenses and add more options and functionality to the entire system.
Fujinon XF 14mm f/2.8 R
The XF 14mm f/2.8 R lens is equivalent to a 21mm in 35mm format, providing you with the wide angle of view of 89°. This lens offers you the ability to create images with an all-encompassing perspective and maximum depth of field, with minimal distortion.
The Fujinon optical construction incorporates 10 elements in seven groups, including two aspherical lenses and three extra-low dispersion elements. This configuration provides a reduction in chromatic aberrations while also improving overall image sharpness and clarity. Consistent illumination across the entire image plane is another benefit of the aspherical and extra-low dispersion elements, especially crucial at larger apertures with such a wide focal length lens.
The lens design integrates visual focus distance and depth-of-field scales to help you apply selective focusing techniques; however, with such a broad angle of view, focus is usually assured unless working with subject matter in very close proximity. Even with the minimum focus distance of 7.1”, the focal length of this lens will emphasize perspective while maintaining sharp focus from near-to-far; making this lens ideal for architectural and landscape applications.
Fujinon XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 R LM OIS
The XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.0 R LM OIS lens is the first zoom lens in the XF lineup, and has a 35mm-equivalent focal length range of 27.4-83.8mm, which covers wide angle to telephoto lengths to suit photographing in a variety of situations.
Supplementing this range of perspectives, OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) has been integrated into the design of this lens and helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake that becomes especially noticeable at longer focal lengths. In addition to the OIS, a relatively fast maximum aperture of f/2.8 at the wide end, and f/4 when fully extended, also benefit working in low-light conditions as well as offering greater control over the focus plane for selective-focus applications.
Complementing the versatility of this lens even more, a linear motor drive autofocus system actuates fast and precise focusing throughout the zoom range. The optical construction comprises 14 elements in 10 groups, which includes three aspherical elements and one extra-low dispersion element that helps to suppress flare and color anomalies across the range of focal lengths, and improve overall image sharpness.
Fujinon XF 18mm f/2.0 R, XF 35mm f/1.4 R and XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro
In addition to these two new lenses, the three previously-released lenses are still available and maintain their place as the building blocks of the XF-series of lenses. The XF 18mm f/2.0 R has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27mm for a standard wide-angle perspective. This lens features the most compact form factor of the existing XF lenses, making it ideal for traveling and other situations where portability is a necessity.
Providing a normal angle of view, the XF 35mm f/1.4 R has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 53mm. One of the main benefits of this lens is its f/1.4 maximum aperture, which both benefits low-light shooting as well as shallow depth of field applications. The longest XF lens currently available is the XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro, which has a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 91mm, to provide a short telephoto angle of view. In addition to this lens’s long reach, it also features a 0.5x maximum magnification and a minimum working distance of 10.5” for macro shooting.
All of these lenses feature Fujifilm’s proprietary XF mount for full compatibility with the X series interchangeable-lens cameras. This lens mount is specifically designed with a short flange distance, wide mount opening and deep lens setting in order to ensure consistent, even illumination and sharpness across the entire image sensor. Each lens also features all-glass elements and Fujinon Super EBC coating technology for high color fidelity and optical clarity.
