Unveiled: New Lenses from Tamron
Tamron has made great efforts in the world of optics, attested to here by the release of a 14-150mm lens for Micro Four Thirds (a first for Tamron), an 18-200mm lens for the Canon EOS M, and a 28-300mm lens for Canon, Nikon, and Sony DSLRs. These all-in-one zooms give you everything from wide-angle to super telephoto in nice, compact packages.
14-150mm f/3.5-5.8 Di III Lens for Micro Four Thirds
Proving that the company caters to everyone’s needs, Tamron has developed its first Micro Four Thirds lens, in the form of the 14-150mm f/3.5-5.8 Di III zoom lens. A stepping motor is featured for speedy, near-silent autofocus for video or stills, and internal focusing allows the 14-150mm to maintain its compact profile at all focal lengths, while preventing the 52mm filter thread from rotating. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of 19.7" at 150mm and a magnification ratio of 1:3.8. Other noteworthy inclusions to the 14-150mm lens are a zoom lock to prevent lens creep and a circular 7-bladed diaphragm for smooth out-of-focus areas. This lens measures just 3.2" long, making it a great travel lens for your mirrorless camera kit. The lens is available in Black or Silver and comes with a petal-shaped lens hood.
18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens for Canon EOS M
The 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC Lens, at present, is the only AF wide-angle-to-telephoto lens available in a native EF M mount. With a 35mm equivalent focal length of 29-320mm, this lens can expand your shooting capabilities, while minimizing the need to change lenses. It also features a reproduction ratio of 1:3.7 and a minimum focusing distance of just 19.7" at 200mm.
A handy additional feature is a Vibration Compensation system that reduces the appearance of camera shake in your images. Also, incorporated into the 18-200mm is a stepping-motor autofocus drive for quick and quiet focusing. This can be easily fine-tuned using Direct Manual Focus capability when needed. The zoom focuses internally, allowing for a non-rotating front filter thread. Another interesting asset is the inclusion of a zoom lock to prevent lens creep. Aspherical and low-dispersion glass elements help control distortion and aberrations, and extra-refractive elements maintain the lens's compact size. The EF-M mount version is available in Black or Silver and includes a petal-shaped lens hood.
For DSLR shooters, Tamron has released the full-frame-compatible 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD Lens in Nikon F-mount, Canon EF-mount, and Sony A-mount versions. Its durable moisture-resistant design enables you to shoot in inclement weather. The optical stack in this zoom implements Extra Refractive Index and Ultra-Extra Refractive Index glass elements, reducing the lens’s weight. Four low-dispersion elements, three molded-glass aspherical elements, and one hybrid aspherical-glass element minimize aberrations and ensure optimal image quality.
A Piezo Drive ultrasonic focusing motor provides speedy, accurate autofocus, and Vibration Compensation is included on the Canon and Nikon versions. The Sony version lacks VC due to the implementation of in-body image stabilization in many Sony camera bodies. Improved image quality is realized, thanks to the circular 7-blade diaphragm, for smooth out-of-focus areas. The lens is available in Canon EF mount, Nikon F mount, and Sony A mount and includes a petal-shaped lens hood.
