Food Photography: Concept to Completion

Share

Pictures of food surround us daily, whether they're commercials on TV, images on food packaging, or in the pages of cookbooks. But there’s more to the art than might be obvious at first glance. In this 80-minute talk, professional photographer Robert Jacobs shares his approach to commercial food and still-life photography, including a typical workflow from initial concept to final image.

As with any good photography, composition and light are the main elements. Using a remarkably simple lighting setup, Jacobs shows us how his lighting philosophy impacts the food presentation and his ability to get the job done quickly, while also discussing collaboration with food stylists and prop stylists, the issue of prop selection, and the very important issue of food arrangement.
