CES 2015: Sony SmartEyeglass

Showcased at CES 2015, the Sony SmartEyeglass SDK (Developer Preview) is a new accessory designed to extend the functionality of Android mobile devices. In addition to the binocular head-mount display, a wired controller communicates with a host Android mobile device via Bluetooth or WLAN. The eyewear has a camera, compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, and brightness sensor. The controller has a touch sensor and keys.

SmartEyeglass lets you create augmented reality apps—access the camera, GPS, and sensors. It can be used for a wide range of applications by superimposing information and graphics in front of the user’s eyes over their natural field of view. Layered over the visual world we experience already, the SmartEyeglass allows additional notifications and information.

Applications can access the sensor data from the accelerometer, gyro, electronic compass, brightness sensor, and microphone, and take photos and videos using the built-in camera. The device connects to a compatible smartphone, where the apps are running.

Is there anything like this that can connect to a DSLR live view feed?  Video goggles will work, but they block all view other than the camera feed.

Yes, the Zeiss Cinemizer OLED Glasses will be able to hook up to a DSLR live view feed, which are B&H # ZE1909127.
