As any dedicated multi-sport athlete seeking an all-in-one digital training partner knows, mainstream fitness watches can be largely underwhelming. Most are intended for a specific sport, or offer limited data tracking and performance feedback. Now available is the Garmin robust fenix 2; a hybrid fitness/outdoor watch designed for running, climbing, riding, hiking, paddling, skiing, swimming, and just about any other sport or outdoor activity. No matter what your chosen sports are, it’s sure to have a feature set that can accommodate you. Training features include a VO2 estimator, recovery advisory, training effect, and race predictor. Swim and ski modes group together feature sets most useful for these sports.

Then there are the outdoor features—the fenix 2 has high-sensitivity GPS navigation features as well as an altimeter, barometer, and three-axis compass for real-time data. In addition to all this, you can see your emails, texts, and alerts right on the watch by connecting it wirelessly with your smartphone. In keeping with its functionality, the fenix 2 has a solid build; it has a polyurethane wristband with alternate fabric wrist strap, and is water-depth rated to 164 feet. The Garmin fenix 2 is available as a stand-alone watch with black strap, black display and red text, or a Special Edition version, which has a red strap and easy-to-read inverted screen (white display with black text). Each watch is also available bundled with an HRM-Run monitor to additionally track your running dynamics: cadence, vertical oscillation, and ground contact time.
