Android 4.1 Jelly Bean: Update for Samsung Galaxy Tablets

Share

If you’ve purchased a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 or either a 10” or 7” Galaxy Tab 2 tablet, you’ll be pleased to know that Samsung has delivered on their promise to bring the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system to Galaxy tablets in the United States. Now available via an over-the-air update or through Kies, you’ll be able to update your Wi-Fi-only version of Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tab 2 tablet to the latest Android operating system.

With Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, you’ll notice several performance improvements over Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Touch input is more responsive and switching between apps is smoother. Jelly Bean offers a clean, uncluttered user interface with smarter notifications, enhanced widgets and deep home screen customization with easy drag-and-drop controls. You’ll also have access to Google Now, which is a search option that caters to you based on your search history. The more you use Google Now, the more personalized your search experience becomes. Google Now recalls what you’ve searched, where your location is and even what routes you’ve taken to optimize your search results.

To update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, you simply tap the home key and then select “Apps” at the top right corner. In “Apps,” select “Settings” and then “About Device.” There should be a “Software Update” option in “About Device” which should let you tap on the update option in order to get the over-the-air update for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS started. Simply follow the on-screen instructions to download and install the update. Please note that after the update is downloaded and installed, you will be required to restart your Galaxy tablet in order to complete the installation.

In addition to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 also received a Premium Suite update. Premium Suite is a collection of new features that further improves on multitasking and productivity while also offering enhanced personalization and creativity on the Galaxy Note 10.1. Premium Suite also improves S Pen support as well. The S Pen now allows you to select writing or color modes at the touch of a button, or you can unlock the home screen by simply removing the S Pen from its holder. S Voice and Smart Alert also have made a migration over from the Samsung Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy Note 10.1. S Voice allows you to perform various tasks simply by speaking, while Smart Alert notifies you about missed messages and emails through vibrations as soon as you pick up your Galaxy Note 10.1.

Premium Suite makes several additions to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet’s Multi Window feature. Cascade View allows users to freely resize, move and pin selected applications in multiple views while running them simultaneously. Air View now lets you use the S Pen to quickly preview content without having to open it, such as previewing email attachments and photos. Quick Command uses the S Pen to quickly open apps and services by allowing you to write command shortcuts using preset S Pen strokes. These preset S Pen strokes are also customizable.

Premium Suite also emphasizes personalization with enhanced handwriting, such as sending handwritten emails or adding personalized handwritten notes to photos. Easy Clip lets you select and clip content to save, paste or share without having to open unnecessary menus. S Note now features additional ready-to-use templates so you’ll be able to add effects to your content in Idea Sketch. Now, you can also add video to other templates in addition to the Note templates and you can launch S Note directly from your home screen. With Paper Artist, you’ll be able to enliven sketches and photos with different color and pencil styles. Paper Artist offers more than 30 artistic effects that can be applied to images or media. You can also draw or write on the content and share it with others.

Please note that the current over-the-air update for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is for the Wi-Fi-only versions of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 tablets.

I have a Galaxy and I love it! It was easy to understand and I love the interface. If you're looking for a tablet you should check it out, I think it's very underrated.

Please stop publishing the false information that there is a Jelly Bean update available for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. There is not, and Samsung does not plan to issue one.

The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is the original tablet, not the Galaxy Note or Galaxy Tab 2. It is unbelievably frustrating for this Galaxy Tab 10.1 owner to keep seeing that there is an update available for his tablet, only to find out that it's not true.

I'm so confused, we have a Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Can we get the Jelly bean upgrade? Is it being made available at some point?

By the way we are in the UK.

I had the4.0 and it was sent back and I upgraded the internal screen was broken. Than my sister had the same problem so now I'm always lookin for recalls and defects

My update is hung up on optimizing 111 out of 117. What should I do?

I went into setting and it is still showing 4.0 firmware software. I tried doing to upgrade twice and it goes all the way through the software install and reboots the system but then it come up on the screen again to install the upgrade again

I would like to keep my tablet update automatically

Hi Jewell -
