Bryan Formhals is more than a talented photographer.  Besides completing his most notable body of work, “The Electric Sunshine Velocity Trip”, Bryan has been an active member of the burgeoning online photography community for over three years, and is the founder of La Pura Vida, an online photography gallery that features the work of emerging and established photographers. Bryan’s lecture at the B&H Event Space will chronicle his journey with photography from the beginning when he picked up a camera as a cure for writer’s block, to the present where he edits La Pura Vida.  He will share a selection of his photographs, and well as his ideas about social media and photography on the Internet. Bryan’s first foray into the online world of photography began with Flickr where he discovered the Hardcore Street Photography group and met several peers on the same journey as him. This experience inspired the Electric Sunshine Velocity Trip, a color project that led Bryan around Los Angeles chasing the electric sunshine. Next he created La Pura Vida, which has been gaining popularity through Twitter and Tumblr. Now Bryan finds himself living in Brooklyn, NY where he freelances as a social media consultant and continues to pursue his career in photography. He is also launching two new web projects, strange.rs, an international photography collective and InOrbit New York, a visually oriented publication dedicated to the city.
