
Arlene Gottfried
Arlene Gottfried singing photographer was born in Brooklyn, where she continuously photographed the neighborhoods of the city since the 1970s. Her powerful tender and intimate portraits of people have achieved national and international acclaim. Gottfried's works have appeared in prominent publications such as The New York Times Magazine, Fortune, Life, Newsweek, The New Yorker, The Independent, Photo 8, among many others. She has exhibited in the United States and internationally at places such as the Leica Gallery in New York and Tokyo, the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., the Space Gallery in London, the Internationale Fototage in Germany and the FNAC Galleries in France. Her photographs can be found in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The New York Public Library, The Jewish Museum and the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris. She is the recipient of numerous awards such as the Berenice Abbott International Competition of Women's Documentary Photography and New York Foundation for the Arts.
Arlene Gottfried is the author of four books; BACALAITOS AND FIREWORKS 2011, SOMETIMES OVERWHELMING (2008), MIDNIGHT (2003), published by powerHouse Books in Brooklyn, New York and The Eternal Light (1999) by Dewi Lewis Publishing in the United Kingdom.
