I have had this NAS for over a week and I absolutely love it. This is my first NAS and I did a lot of research before deciding on this latest product by WD. It didn't disappoint. It's an excellent value with 3TB network storage. Setup is extremely easy and now I can access all my files home or away with ease. I stream HD video at home with this little thing without any issues. The size is another plus. It's so compact and easy to place. I also like having the USB 3.0 port for any future expansion. For home use, this is your perfect NAS. My only suggestion is if WD can provide a black version because chances are, many people are like me and have their PC equipment in black.

I purchased this hoping to log onto it via the web with any PC from anywhere and retrieve files and add files. It was not as easy to set up as I expected and it was not designed to work as I hoped. The software to get files would not work on my version of Chrome, I tried three different PCs and had to download Java updates to each, which then also loaded a bunch of other YAHOO programs that I did not want. It seems this is designed for those who want to store music and access it from anyplace. I want to store files, retrieve them, add more files from locations that I travel too. I won't be able to update a browser on a PC at the Holiday Inn Express. I thought the entire process to use this device was much too complicated. I did not do much testing with it for speed or reliable performance because of the difficult user interface. Going back to the pay storage location that works everywhere and where I can add and copy files from everywhere.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

Difficult to set up as remote accessed "cloud". Even if you can access it remotely, it is not practicable because the speed to too slow. You have to wait for more than ten seconds to see one 3 mb photo via wifi. WD needs smart people to design smart products.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

Purchased this (from @) looking for a good place to keep all my files. I liked the idea of being able to access them anywhere.- Difficult to set up.- Unbelievably complicated interfaces - that's right - plural.- Horribly slow - even when connected via Ethernet.- Folders change names and appearance - don't know why.- I can't even get it to store a user-name change.- And NOW FOR THE SERIOUS ISSUES...- It DOESN'T WORK. I tried to upload files to it over the Internet via a new (2015) Macbook Pro - files over 512 KB (yes... K) freeze at 512 KB. You can keep clicking on them and upload them 512KB at at time, I think. Have fun with that. Google it - hundreds of forum discussions of this issue. WD doesn't even acknowledge it. That's a poor company.- Support sucks. Somewhere outside the U.S., poor English, reads scripts, zero listening or thinking. I called them for help with the above issue and after 15 minutes of just trying to get the guy to understand what I was saying, he said, "First step is to reboot the device." I replied, "I'm accessing it remotely. I'm not in the same county as the device." He replied, "Ok. Well, reboot it and if that doesn't work, call us back. Is there anything else I can help you with?" I made him create a case, which apparently annoyed him.- Now, I can't even access it on the same network. Expanding on that... if I open the My Cloud software, I can access it. If I open the MyCloud Dashboard, I can access it. If I try to access it via Finder, which used to work, I get an error, "There was a problem connecting to the server... it may not exist or is unavailable." If I try to save a file directly to it, for example a Word document, I get the same error.Nothing but total frustration from the minute I opened it. Save your money. Subscribe to some cloud storage. I can't imagine the security of this thing is any better than the rest of it.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

I use it as home media center. Firstly, it isn't wi-fi, as I expected. It just connects to network by ethernet. And I found it also too slow for transfering data TO it, both using the network as connecting a external HD directly on the USB port. But, as DLNA, my main use, it does the job. It also has a good disk size for the price.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

I bought this product to backup 100GB or so of photos on my Macbook Pro and to move a 160gb itunes library off a LaCie drive that was formatted as a Windows drive so i can't copy to it from my Mac. I installed the WD on my network with no problem. I began copying Photos libraries (which were pretty huge) over wifi and quickly found out that it was going to take forever. Unfortunately, I have adopted wifi exclusively and no longer have a bunch of network cables hanging around. I'll have to purchase one to use for copying large files because copying them over wifi is interminable. The drive is pretty slow when accessing it directly in the finder on the mac. I originally planned to have all photos copy directly to the WD from Photos on the Mac and to have Itunes use it for a shared library. After crashing Photos a few times, rebooting the WD a few times, some panicky moments where I thought i lost all my family photos and music, I learned to simply use this device as a backup only. I plan to store recent photos locally on the Macbook and then move libraries as they get to the gigabyte range. I still haven't given up on the itunes setup but have not had any luck yet.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

Setup was as simple as stated; user help from WD website was useful. My only issues was with Apple operating system, and with that, iTunes worked well, but after much research and study, I will have to wait for Apple to support the storage of photos remotely, and still use iPhoto interface. (the use of remote storage of music and iTunes works well). Still moving Photos / Music to the WD MyCloud freed up a lot of space on main drive; with no noticeable loss of speed accessing any of the files. The apps for access from mobile devices also work very good.

Initial upload of data to the system takes a long time due to the volume. The USB on the back of the device will speed thing up.

The WD user interface could use a design overhaul.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

I have three of these which are used for mobile device photo uploads, mobile device video uploads and document sharing. iOS and Android software apps a bit complicated to initially set up but once done works great. My family takes hundreds of pics with our cameras and they are instantly uploaded to the servers so there is no need to save pics to our phones or tablets. Only complaint is the speed at which these drives access information. Even at home on my network, pulling up image folders it can take several minutes for the images or videos to load. I have a 100% home gigabit network and these servers do not work any faster. Still great peace of mind, access to my files and media anywhere in the world and I don't have to use Google Drive or One Drive. This replaces it all AND preserves original file types. You can even assign users to the servers with their own folders. We can shoot 200 pics at Disneyland, and the grand parents can log in from North Carolina and view them within minutes.

Comments about WD 3TB My Cloud Personal Cloud NAS Storage:

Purchased this unit to replace older WD NAS that failed. MyCloud has rather disappointing performance when compared to older WD NAS, and definitely not up-to-par compared to other NAS devices. Still, it worked OK until I updated its firmware to v04.00.00. It became incredibly slow and unresponsive to the point of being useless. From reading the WD forums it seems that this happened to everyone updating to v04, and there is no easy way of reverting to the older firmware. WD has not fixed the problem with a new release, so I am now faced with purchasing a different NAS and migrating,

My home network storage was distributed over 2 smaller NAS devices as well as 2 separate usb storage devices. The My Cloud 3 TB now centrally has all data from 2 Windows and 2 MacBook Pros and the other devices are used as back-up for the My Cloud. Set-up was very easy, download and install applets and away you go. I have some issues with WD My Cloud on one of my Windows 7 (32 bit) machines - icon appears on my desktop but when i open to use, none of the verbiage is visible. Not absolutely sure whether this is my machine or the application.
