Sony makes the best digital sensors these days and they go into Nikon, Pentax, Olympus; from medium format to smart phones. The a3000 is the cheapest way to access the most important electronic part of a digital camera - the sensor- in a size much, much bigger than the sensors found in point and shoot cameras and phones. The a3000 is entry-level and does not have the bells and whistles of more expensive cameras but it takes the best pictures by far of any camera at the three hundred price point today due to its 20mp apsc size Sony sensor. The kit lens is excellent for the price and if you spend a bit more for a Zeiss Sony lens like the 16-70, or the 24/1.8, you get the same image quality as a fifteen hundred camera from 3 years ago. Best camera value of 2013-2014!

This is probably the bargain of the century in terms of image quality, as long as you can put up with its quirks.

It's got the older style Sony menu system, which is a little hard to navigate, but once you set it up, it should be fine.
The rear screen, even though its relatively low resolution, is really ok to use. Unfortunately the viewfinder (EVF) is dreadful. It's tiny, grainy, and really difficult to use, with a diopter adjustment that only has a few settings, so it's hard to get adjusted right.

Overall, this is a great little camera to have as a backup, or beater, when you don't want to bring your good one along. I'm not sure I'd recommend it as a primary camera, though, as it's got a few too many usability drawbacks to make it a good choice for a either a novice or more experienced photographer.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

For the price, you can't beat what this camera can do. All the needed settings are intuitive and easy to set. 20MP is more that necessary but nevertheless you have more than enough pixels with which to crop your treasured photos 'any which way!' The camera is light, compact (for an interchangeable lens camera - ILC) and easy to use. You DON'T need to be a techno-geek to use it. One of the best performance to price ratio around - heck what other 20MP ILC camera can you buy for $[$]?

Getting to know this camers is fairly easy, but the 1st charge of the totally dead included battery is going on 5 hours and is only 47% charged. Setup and registration is a snap on line and the test shots I took are perfect for my needs. I like it.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought the Sony A3000 six months ago, and I'm using it with the 18-55mm kit lens and also bought a couple of adapters MD to NEX, to use the camera with legacy Minolta MD mount glass:
        - Minolta MD 50mm F2
        - Minolta MD Tele Rokkor 135mm F3.5
        - Sigma Zoom ßII 60-200mm F4-5.6 MD mount
With Focus peaking and magnification, it's quite easy to obtain fantastic images taking advantage from high quality glass of the "old" Minolta and Sigma lenses.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought my a3000 to use with my collection of classic MF lenses (Konica AR, Canon FD and Jupiter 8). I had been considering the smaller NEX bodies but I am happier with how the a3000 body provides a more secure grip, especially when using older heavy metal and glass lenses.

The results and ease of use are incredible. The focus peaking and magnification features are especially helpfull and I couldn't be more pleased with my decision. Great image quality and great valus for money.

I have read a lot of negative comments about the resolution/quality of the LCD and the EVF. I have never found this to be a problem, even when using magnification as a focus aid.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I purchased this camera recently as a replacement for my Alpha 100 which is dying a slow but certain death. I wasn't sure that I made the correct purchase when I ordered the camera since I did it on the spur of the moment in order to get a rebate being offered. I was quite surprised when the camera arrived right on schedule from BH Photo ( free shipping). I thought I was down sizing to a degree but this was only true in the size of the compactness of the camera. This camera seems to do everything you could ask of a "entry level" camera. I wasn't expecting it to have so many features and I am now going thru a new and long learning curve. So far I'm really happy with how the camera performs. I really like the smaller size and its' light weight. I'll be purchasing the adapter so I can use my A100 lenses on this unit and I think I'll be set.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

The Sony a3000 is a top quality current-gen entry-level MILC.
The overall product quality is marred by Wireless remote compatibility restrictions, the lack of 4K/Ultra HD video support and a sub-par LCD screen. Outweighing the flaws, this product boasts 20.1 MP still image quality and a functionable UI for an unbeatable price.
The most notable aspect of differentiation between the Sony a3000 and more expensive models is the ease of use factor; Compensating for this with a little additional effort can produce quality images indistinguishable from that of expensive models.
The Sony Alpha a3000 is an exceptional camera for aspiring photogaphers on a budget.

Great hi-res images in an SLR-shaped body. I wouldn't 'to take it on a Safari, as it's a bit plasticky, but amazing value, especially if you put a better lens on it (takes Sony E-mount lenses).

Image quality is very good and the kit lens is pretty good. Nice way to get a start into the Sony e-mount lenses. Sony sensors are really good. LCD and EVF are adequate for framing and focusing (focus peaking feature and zoom for manual focus really help). Autofocus is good in normal and bright lighting.Don't think you can find anything else that comes close to IQ in this price range. Menu/navigation may have a learning curve for some, but once used for a month, navigation is easy.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I am a simple point and shoot kind of person (canon 90) and wanted a new camera with better zoom for <$ for a trip to Alaska. Spoke with customer service and they walked thru the features of several cameras. I selected this one after reading every review I could find. I also purchased the second lens which I used that the entire time.I have mixed feelings. Most of the pictures I took are amazing (close to 2,000 and 90% are landscapes) and I've gotten really good feedback on the pictures I shared on line. Should add that I left setting on the intelligent focus plus and only played around with the defocus background option. The battery was decent, usually lasting for close to 400 shots. The biggest negative for me is that it took a long time to focus and I missed alot of good shots. It rained alot in Alaska and I continued to take pictures in rain. After awhile I got the message that the accessory wasn't compatible with camera and it stopped working. I let it sit and but it came back. (Others on boat were having similar problems.) I was disappointed also that I didn't have the zoom I needed to get the best shot of wildlife. My friend had a 50X focus that took great zoom shots, but not so great on the landscape shots. Other than the time it took the camera to focus, my negatives are really because I'm an amateur and don't have the right equipment for the shots I was trying to take (waterproof, extended zoom, and wide angle (?) (the lens that lets you capture an entire mountain range). The camera didn't do everything I needed it to do, but I don't think there is one out there that would. I'm laughing at myself as I reread this--thinking back to the equipment I saw people in AK haul around--multiple cameras and lenses with zooms at least two feet long.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I bought this in Jinotega, NI, for about what it would have cost me to import it from the US. It's available world wide and is a great introduction to better photography with interchangeable lenses and a larger image file. I've used mine with Sony 16mm f/2.8, the kit zoom (18-55mm) that came with it, and with the Sony 35mm f/1.8 and the Zeiss/Sony 24mm f/1.8.

The interface is a bit unintuitive compared to the one on the A6000 and the camera doesn't have video out or IR triggering. No WiFi, no tilting touch screen, but it's an inexpensive entry to the Sony e-mount system that takes very good pictures.

My copy of the 18-55mm lens was better than advertised and had the firmware for the A6000 already installed. It's a nice second body for people who upgrade to the NEX 7 or the A6000.

It feels like a smaller camera wearing a plastic disguise -- quite light for its bulk. Also, for those using tripods, the Arcratech generic cork bottomed plate fits and leaves full access to battery and SD card doors.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

I'm the person Sony wanted to attract with this camera. Having the versatility of interchangeable lenses and a "full size" feel and functionality of an DSLR without the extra cost was a factor in choosing this product. I wanted a camera with a viewfinder as I often take photos in bright sunlight and wanted to step up from Point and Shoot and Smartphone limitations on my creativity. I'm still working through all the various menu options and trying as many manual settings as possible. AF selection can be a bit challenging on the fly in sports but it is likely more my issues than the cameras. The only thing I have struggled with is the auto shutoff which has turned off the camera at the most inopportune times. I need to research the settings to help avoid this in the future, but it takes a while for the camera to "boot up" again and I've missed a few shots when that happens.Comfort and feel is very good. The camera fits well in my hand. I also bought the 55-215 lens which functions well.

Comments about Sony Alpha a3000 Digital Camera with 18-55mm Lens:

This camera is bashed on YouTube for being "cheap." Low cost, but what is not sacrificed is image quality. Amazing quality. I love this camera and when combined with the the LA-EA2 adapter the possibilities are endless. Next up for me - a Metabones adapter - Canon EF to Sony E Mount. You get a lot of a little - buy this camera!
