The first thing that will strike you when you open the box is how large the lens is. 72mm lens cover size. Its not heavy, just large. If I want to go compact with my NEX 6, I will use my kit lens. For me the size of this lens is NOT an issue, but many NEX owners bought the camera for its compact nature and may find this a deal breaker.
Weight of the lens: I have installed the supplied Sony neck strap that came with the camera. It is relatively narrow, but considering the weight of the stock camera, it has worked well for me. I can attest that with this lens attached, I walked around for 3 hours with the stock Sony neck strap and the combined weight did not bother me at all.
Next issue would be price. Not necessarily the stand alone price of this lens, but for the buyer who is coming into the NEX market, they may find the combined costs for the body and lens steep. For $1,350.00 you have other options out there for a body and comparable focal range lens. You have to really have bought into the NEX look and feel to make this your first purchase. I personally have been completely smitten by the NEX 6 and would have no other camera and both of the above listed negatives don't matter to me but if I didn't have the love for this camera......
I have used the lens for two shoots so far. The first was a portrait shoot. The large lens size does give off a more professional appearance to the model. The F4 aperture seemed to work fine for the shoot. I used two flashes with a handheld speed of 1/160 and it forced me to use a 400 ISO for correct exposure. I prefer a 200 ISO as this seems to be the sweet spot for the NEX6 but the pictures still came out fine. Focusing was surprisingly fast. At a shooting distance of 8' the depth of field focal range is around 6" so you can get a nice sharp image across most of the head. You will not get a completely washed out background but its blurred out enough. This lens will be great for family portraits because you need the greater depth of field for multiple stacked groups of people. For single subject shoots, I would prefer a larger aperture for that nice blown out background look.
Next shoot was a handheld shoot on a beach. I found the zoom feature to be very quick. The entire zoom feature is enclosed which I really liked. If you shut the camera off for a bit, then turn it back on, the lens returns to 18mm. I understand the need to retract in other lens but this lens has no exposed moving portions. The zoom is quite fast so it wasn't a huge drawback. I kinda wish it reset in the middle of its zoom range which would give me the option to go in either direction much faster for a quick draw snapshot. It only has one zoom speed that I could tell but again, it was pretty fast.
I shot some high contrast scenes across the entire zoom range and was surprised that I saw VERY little purple fringing....like barely there at all, and probably the best lens I have owned for this type of shot. I can say I noticed a little softness to the lens...BUT...after checking out my camera settings, I saw that I had done this entire shoot in the portrait mode. I am not positive but I highly suspect the images will be much sharper if I had set the camera in landscape or any other setting than the soft portrait setting. Even so, the pictures turned out really nice even in portrait mode. Birds feathers showed enough detail to make me happy. I also photographed flying seagulls as they took off from a stand still. The lens was able to track and focus very well and I got probably 75% of those shots in focus (not always framed the best though :) ) I shot @ a 4000 shutter speed, 200 Iso, and of course f4. Barrel distortion is handled better than the kit lens @ 18mm. So far, I can not see a reason why I will use another lens on my camera unless I have a specialty use. If this lens were f2.8, I'm pretty sure it would never come off.

I want to like this lens more than I do but it has its compromises. The size is very manageable with the A6000, it's not heavy at all, but with it, you can't use the flash for fear of shadows. That's a big drawback. The pics have been very clear and sharp, but there is noticeable vignetting at the corners. It being a power zoom, there's no scale to tell you what focal length you're at, just a little zoom gauge in the viewfinder. No for me. I know I need to use it a bit more before I decide if I will keep it but one might be better served with a few prime lenses instaed of this, in a non-video capacity anyway. Build quality is very very high by the way, so at least you feel like you've gotten what you paid for. And B&H is always great to do business with, in my experience.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I have to say that I have had nothing but great images with this lens. It is extremely sharp on the long end and the bokeh is nice at F4. It focus fairly fast though it does hunt in low light. That I think is more the camera than the lens. Images are great if you have the money get it.

I can't speak highly enough of having this lens. Having f4 the whole way through your focal range is incredibly convenient over what the kit lenses offer. It's even built nice to boot!

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I own a Sony a6000 and although this lens is bigger than the body, it is super comfortable and compact for a zoom with this range. Since I have an apsc then it's more like a 27-157. Perfect for my needs and I see it staying on my camera 75-80% of the time. At a constant f4 it's pretty constant. We would all love 1.8 but that means more $$$$. Absolutely love this thing!

I use this lens on a Sony A6000 and I really like it. It auto focuses very fast and silent. I like the constant aperture; it's fast enough. I think the zoom range is good for my photography. Like all zooms, there are compromises and there are some good videos on youtube describing the advantages and disadvantages of this lens. Stopped down, it's sharp in center but the edges can be soft. But, I think it's a good lens to leave on the camera. I have read that it's good for video but I have only used it for still photography.

          Internal dust

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I love this lens and have used it a lot, but unfortunately some dust/debris has found its way into the internal lens elements, making noticeable black dots on the images. I now have to pay to get it professionally cleaned. However, I do understand that this is a prosumer lens and thus its not sealed as well as a $+ lens. Overall great quality glass, awesome for video shooters, just not as tightly sealed as I had hoped.

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

This lens was purchased for used with a A6000. First off distortion....uncorrected, yes, the lens has tremendous barrel and pincushion, this how it is small and compact for the zoom range and fixed aperture. HOWEVER, when used with the A6000 or Lightroom, either the camera electronically compensates for this or the Lightroom profile can be used to compensate. End result is a great sharp image free of distortion.

Zoom is quiet and has variable speeds using the T/W lever on the side, great for video. The zoom ring is quite responsive as well. I like the fact the lens is a fixed length, all the zooming is internal.

Color is pretty good as well. As for fringing, pixelation, chromatic aberation.. Sorry to disappoint, I am NOT a pixel peeper. I do not need any prints above 24x36 which this camera/lens combo can do with ease.

I would absolutely recommend this to a friend to try out!

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I was looking for a versatile walk-around lens for family outings, hiking, etc. I have other lenses - pancakes and primes, for more specialized needs.

This lens is very sharp (especially 1 stop down), consistent across the range, and pleasingly contrasty / flare resistant. Physically it's large but not heavy. It balances nicely on my a6000.

There is visible distortion as you zoom, also very apparent as I import raws into lightroom and see the initial (uncorrected) vs. rendered (corrected) version. The distortion seems to have no impact on final sharpness.

My only criticism is the zoom by wire, whether using the rocker switch or the ring. Zooming the full range is sluggish and often requires two twists of the zoom ring to complete.

The picture quality is superb. The lens shoots sharp from 18-105 very sharp, crisp and very little to zero distortion. This lens is very nice when shooting video - fast auto focus no noise smooth feel when using Manuel focus. Highly recommend this for video

Comments about Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens:

I was tired of carying and changing 16-50 kit lens, 35/1.8, 50/1.8 and 55-210. So I bought this lens and it is fantastic. I compared it to all other lenses. It has better contrast than 16-50 plus constatnt f/4 aperture. Focusing and zoom rings are more smooth and precise. This lens also compare very good to 35 and 50 primes. Needs a bit more sharpening in postprocess and then ressults are so close that I coulnd't say which is which. Also I have to stop down my 35 and 50 to say f/2.8 to be realy sharp but I don't need to stop down 18-105, it is sharp wide open. One negative point is distortion when shooting architecture. It is hardly do coorect even in postprocess. But everyday shooting is fine, distortion is neglible and is hardly seen even without correction in postprocess.
Lens is also good in poor light (indoors) thanks to OSS.

I use it for shooting ballroom dance events. It gives me more coverage on the A7r.

I opted for this lens instead of the kit 16-50 lens and it was a great choice. It's not oversized, there is a zoom button on the lens, and the pictures are sharp. I like that it is f/4 instead of a range. Great investment

its really light, very accurate focus, definite for nature, outside shoots. The only drawback is that it requires "distortion compensation" which when used with the FS7 it's currently not available in 4K.

I am only reviewing this lens as it relates to video shooting on the PXW_FS7
The zoom is very smooth and useable for video. 18-105 is an excellent zoom range for B-roll and cinema verite shooting. Optics are good. Manual focus FOR VIDEO is unusable. The manual focus ring reacts unpredictably to your touch. Often I tried, in an interview situation, to roll the focus forward an inch because the subject had leaned forward a bit only to have it not respond or jump 3 feet ruining a good soundbite. One time a small rotation of the focus barrel sent the focus to infinity. I spent a lot of time practicing with the lens hoping to develop a feel for it. No luck.
I let others judge how good it is for photography.
I went with Canon L (way more $$$) giving up smooth live zooms for responsive manual focus.
