I'd go 4 1/2 if I could - not much negative to them and overall comfortable.

    Comments about MDR-10R Headphones (Black):

I bought a pair out of curiosity. I see mix reviews on 10Rs but wanted to find out for myself what Sony cans are like. I do think they are good value and a fun headphone to use. The first thing that stands out sound wise is the exaggerated bottom end and it over takes what otherwise is a very balance and well sorted top end. The bass is so strong that it drowns out the excellent mid/highs. The bass sounds bloated and unnatural. The very top end is rolled off a bit but there is still good detail. I have to admit they are fun to use. Overall sound is warm so if you prefer that, the 10Rs are a must try. Build quality is excellent at this price. Fit and finish is very good even though its mostly plastic. The ear cups are tight fighting bordering on being on-ear cans but they do just fit my ear. I do enjoy using the MDR10R even with the boomy bass.
