Comments about Corel PaintShop Pro X6 (Mini-Box):

Not everyone wants to get nor can afford, the ultimate photo editing program, Photoshop. Paintshop Pro provides an excellent alternative and for a much lower price. I have used Paintshop to edit my photos through many versions and many years starting with version 4 then on to x, x3, x4 and now x6. It is quick and intuitive and handles 90% of my editing needs very well, especially with the new 64 bit version. Curiously my previous version, x4, could handle the RAW files generated by my new Nikon D610. And that camera post-dates that editor by several years. Adobe's programs could not do that without their latest update to ACR. Go figure that one out.

I was also very interested in using the latest Nik Collection of Plug-Ins with PSPx6. These Plug-Ins are great but Nik/Google has apparently struck a deal with Adobe and they won't run with any other editors except those from Adobe. . . except the three "non-Pro" plug-ins that actually work just fine. The other three "Pro" plug- ins work free-standing so I can get all of my editing done with relative ease.

I do have Adobe Elements 12 and Lightroom 5 but they are not my preferred photo editing programs. My initial work is done with Nikon Capture NX2 and DxO Optics Pro and then on to PSPx6. An excellent and capable editor for the value.

Comments about Corel PaintShop Pro X6 (Mini-Box):

Paintshop Pro X6 (PSP X6)is great for beginner post processing. Why? it has a lot of tutorials, and is a lot easier to operate than more powerful software. I had tried out several photo software free and paid. Seems the free stuff is great but very limited and often used more for point and shoot functions low quality web sharing. After all, most people use apps and small photo files to communicate their photos on phones, tablets and PC/Mac. Also I found all the powerful pro software is very hard to figure out and takes a long time just to get simple stuff done.As for PC use, my graphics card and processor are late model and powerful. The refresh rate is fast, and have no problems with slow process or crashes. The PSP X6 works fine for me.Nevertheless, this software is a lot more easy to learn on, things are set up in a sequence from start to finish, and the online tutorials help a great deal. When going through the process, pop ups for guidance appear at almost every major stage. Very helpful and makes learning more efficient. For the pro who knows about layers, editing, adjusting, color saturation, etc..., the pop-ups would be annoying. However, you can disable them. On the other hand, PSP X6 is no way as powerful at the higher cost big name software, and it has some limitations on the manipulations of the finished product. But for a beginner who is not going to send out prints 30"X 48", PSP X6 has more than enough power to accomplish goals..This software covers many file formats and does RAW files and HDR. Although not as good as the top of the line programs, it does make photo manipulation and editing a lot easier to understand and use. I have tried about 8 different photo software, and PSP X6 is one that I do not regret having on my computer. Here is a photo of my first attempt of a HDR photo, done with one RAW file split into 3 and merged. the other photo is a night photo with basic processing of the RAW file.
