I've been shooting with this lens for about a week, and I have to say that I'm quite happily surprised, not with the image quality (I expected it to be excellent), but with the build quality and handling.

Coincidentally, another photographer (a good friend) and I were both shooting a whitewater/kayaking event with Fuji X cameras. He had the XF 55-200; I used the XC 50-230.

Both lenses generated some wonderful images. My XC had a bit more "reach" and it weighed significantly less.

I can see where the XF construction will handle a bit more rough handling, and in dim light the slightly faster lens would have a bit of an advantage, but the XC is an extraordinary lens and a terrific value.

This lens really focuses slow, and that is on a sunny day. When it comes to dusk, you may have to hunt around for a spot on the subject to find a contrast area for it to hit focus on. Now that is full zoom, in it's wide angle view it is OK focus speed. Now I'm comparing this with a Sony a6000 and my Fuji is a X-M1. This lens has good color and if you do not care about focus speed it is a sharp lens. Not a lens for sport photography

Comments about XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS Lens (Black):

It's not as well made as say their 55-200 lens as it made of plastic and the glass may not be quite as sharp. However, with manual focus and the focus peaking of the camera, it can still render pretty good results. I think I would rather have the 55-200 lens, but I'm OK with this one for now, mainly because it's $150 cheaper than the 55-200.

Comments about XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS Lens (Black):

This is an incredibly fast and versatile lens, especially given its price point, which comes in well below other lenses in the X-family. I've shot with it in day, night and other low-light conditions and across the board I have been impressed with both the responsiveness of the autofocus and image stabilization.

As to be expected with X-lenses, the image quality is sharp with no apparent aberrations. It pairs very well with my Fuji X-T1.

Comments about XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS Lens (Black):

I only just received this lens and started using it on a regular basis. The IQ the lens produces is top notch at all lengths in my opinion. There are reviews on the web claiming this lens to be better than the more expensive XF 55-200 but having not used that lens I cannot say. No lens creep! What I can say is that I am delighted and impressed by the IQ of the photos I have taken with this lens both as a telephoto for distance shots and for close ups of flowers and insects. The lens has a solid plastic build to it that does not have the same reassuring heft of the FX lenses, but, as I shoot with the X-E1, I find its lighter construction to be a plus. The plastic mount does not worry me. It is solid and feels even better that Cannon 50mm/1.8 II I had in another life.I have found its focus speed to be on a par with most of my other Fuji lenses (except the 35mm 1/4). Bottom line: Great bang for the buck. I saved $[$]+ for this zoom focal length and do not feel I have compromised at all.

Amazingly sharp. The OIS works very well and the build quality seems top notch. Only drawbacks are lack of aperture ring and plastic bayonet, neither of which seems like a big negative. Lens is nice and light and the zoom and focus controls work well. A great lens at a bargain price.

Comments about XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS Lens (Black):

I don't have much use for tele zooms, and that's why I never even considered the XF55-200. I bought this on a whim, since I found a second-hand (new) specimen sold off an X-M1 kit advertised for next to nothing ($[$]).I had no expectations whatsoever, was just happy I finally had some "reach", but this lens has blown me away! Crisp colours, contrasty and razor sharp! The OIS is excellent, and coupled with an X-T1 I can't say I have had a problem with slow focusing either. Fast enough for action shots in good outdoor light, and I have found it an excellent portrait lens.

Comments about XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS Lens (Black):

First, you need to understand who this lens is perfect for. If you're only going to use a long zoom like this in day light, and don't require super-fast focusing (it's not all that slow anyway), then this is a stupidly good deal. The OIS isn't as good as the top-dollar new XF lenses, but it's good enough to let you hand hold this thing out at 230mm with shutter speeds around 1/30, if your technique is ok.

I only want a long zoom once in awhile (product shots with lots of compression, African safari), and always during broad daylight. So the limitations that come with such a cheap lens - plastic mount, plastic body, slower AF, smaller apertures - don't really come back to haunt me. If you're not going to use a zoom A LOT, then this is the smart one to get. The images are crisp, the colors and contrast are very good, and it talks to your camera so you get EXIF data.

I preferred to keep 50-230 after experiencing the 55-200 on my XE-1 and XT-1. Detailed technical comparison of lenses are available on the web and I do not get into. For me, it serves my need without being heavy and bulky. I can compromise missing some extreme low light shots for the advantage of a lighter and smaller piece and the convenience in travel. I do not know the quality and long term performance of the plastic mount but assume the designers know what material to put together for their product.

This lens beats my Nikon lenses for sharpness and color accuracy. It is not as fast as the 50-200 and it lacks the aperture ring, but you don't really need it on the XT-1. It is tack sharp fully extended, and for the one stop smaller aperture, you get the equivalent of 45 mm more reach. Great lens at this price!

Comments about XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS Lens (Black):

After handling the faster larger 55-200, I decided to try the 50-230 for the size & weight savings. Glad I did, the optical quality is excellent, and the trade off in size & weight for a slight loss in speed is worth it for me for a travel kit. With high iso IQ so good with the X cameras I can live with using higher iso's when things get dark. Recommended.

I bought this for my Fujifilm X-M1 to extend my range from the 18-55. Does the job and is sharp as the lenses I have for my Nikon.I'd buy it again. See no problems Note: While the lens descriptions don't indicate it, it does come with a lens shade.
