I am only going to comment on the kit 18-140 lens. Not the camera. The reason is this lens doesn't even come close to giving what the camera is capable of. I honesty wish I just bought the body.

I have never ever had to fine tune a lens to a camera before. This one needed it. Blurry at full view. I had to give it a +9 in the D7100 AF fine tuning controls. A +9! And it is still not as sharp as it should be for the money this lens costs.

I tested the camera body with two other DX nikon kit lenses, an 18-55 and the 55-200, neither needed AF fine tuning so I have to believe this is the lens or lens/body combination.

Now, as a general walk around lens, ya, ok, but it defeats the purpose, in my opinion, if every time you take a nice shot you have to say to yourself, well....I can't blow it up. At 18mm it isn't too bad if you use a tripod, 55mm you cringe, at 140 forget about it.

I'm not blaming Nikon or anyone but myself. You get cheap, you get cheap gear.....I knew better. After the bite wears off my credit card I will invest in better glass. Frankly, I haven't got a clue how good this camera is and won't until I put good glass on it.

      Wildlife Photography on a Budget

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

I'm a semi-pro wildlife photographer on a rather tight budget. After heaps of reading and research, this camera seemed the best thing my money could buy for what I needed. As an upgrade from the D5000 (which was my previous camera), it is like comparing a Ford to a Land Rover. But compared to the Canon 5D (which I also used a lot), it's got its ups and downs. The D7100 seems to be one of the bests (if not the best) DX cameras Nikon can offer. It's got a 24mpx sensor with truly an amazing resolution (indeed, the lack of the low pass filter make it extra sharp, and, arguably, even more than some FX ones) – furthermore, the 1.3x crop mode makes 18mpx photos that still hold brilliant detail. With that, I can use my 300mm lens as if it was almost a 600mm. If you can't afford FX cameras, and a proper 600mm, and/or if you don't fancy carrying that much weight every time you go wildlife shooting, the D7100 may be the best way to go.ISO sensivity is nothing from another world - it does relatively well up to ISO 1000, if you don't mind a bit of wise noise reduction on ACR. I wouldn't use anything above that for serious photos, though. Still, if you fancy lots of night shots (except long exposures), I would advise against any DX camera and lens (who seem to start on f/3.5).The buffer is pretty decent. On 1.3x crop mode, it takes up to 7 on raw mode. With a fast card, I never had to worry too much about it filling up. Again, let me remind that this is still not a top of the line pro camera, and when I say I never had to worry about it I mean "I never used a D4s to taste the difference".It has two SD slots, which I find quite useful for backing up photos (you can even make an in-camera manual backup after a long shoot)The photometry system took me a bit of getting used to. Instead of favouring light areas, it favoures dark ones, which means that it sometimes overexposes in order not to underexpose. After a bit of head scratching, I decided this was a good thing, because I get less noise from recovering an overexposed area then from an underexposed one.Now the lens was rather disappointing. Not that I regret buying it, for its useful to have an 18-140mm, but its not what I would call impressively sharp. Nothing that can't be corrected on ACR, though, so I'm still happy with it.So yes, as a semi-pro wildlife photographer on a budget, I am really happy with it.Oh, and I have noticed that it is louder than the D5000 and the 5D. And the "quiet shutter mode" is pretty much useless if you really want to be quiet. D5000 gets a point for that.

Great quality, very detaild pictures (thanks to the 24mp). takes beautiful long exposure pictures. works quite well in low light.

the shutter sound is a little loud at times but I'ts nothing major. and it can be heavy if you hold it for a long amout of time. (i suggest getting a strap/holster with it)

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

I like close-ups and macros, namely flowers such as orchids.Tee kit lens was a 18-140 mm f/3.5-5.6 VR with all latest optical 'goodies'. I was able to snap an orchid in no time and it looked as if it had been shot with a macro lens (which I may buy anyway at a later stage).I was amazed how fast the camera focuses with that lens, having used mostly non AF-S lenses with my old film Nikon cameras.Despite some heat Nikon received lately (some justified), I remain a Nikon fan boy for its sensor capabilities.

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

I need this camera for shooting videos mainly. This camera has a very low rolling shutter artifact. And even then it can be fixed digitally via the computer. The lens does have a small value of lens distortion, but which lens doesn't? I'm happy to say that this product is worth every penny I invested in it.

It is so nice to have a solid, responsive, real-deal camera again reminiscent of film days when point-and-shoot meant something different if action was breaking fast. Still exploring the paperback book of operating instructions and features and can tell from recent news shoots I'm going to feel all thumbs for a while. Getting better quickly, and the images are stunning.

            Awesome!!!

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

This is way better than the D3200. Having more controls for WB, ISO, exposure metering, AF mode, etc makes shooting much more fluid. The buffer is way better as well if you need to shoot a fast burst. The kit lense is also a great lense. You can really feel the difference in quality of this kit lense vs the ones that come with the D3200. This lense has a metal bayonet as well which really is nice. The larger LCD display is great. The built in intervolometer and multiple exposure modes are great additions. The AF motor in the camera is great because I can use some of my lenses I ised to run on my F4 like my Micro Nikor 105 F2.8 and the new Tomina 11-16 F2.8 I bought as well. This is an amazing camera. The only thing that will improve this camera would be making the jump to an FX camera. I'm glad Nikon finally gave some pro level hardware to the DX line.

I have been contemplating a move from the Nikon D90. I looked at Cannon and Sony equivalent models. I tried the D7100 and never looked back My composition has always been good I never quite got what I saw through the lens. Now I do! I primarily shoot landscape but now I have been enticed to do more in portrait and night photography with my Nikon D7100. I am very picky with my image quaility and I am amazed!I love the dual memory card slot and, like I said, image quality. I can't really find anything that I don't like.If you are looking for a full frame sensor I wold try this as well, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Nikon D7100 DSLR Camera with 18-140mm VR DX Lens:

Bought this as upgrade to D3000. Great bundle value (discounted) for better lens, when price dropped a week later, I got price adjustment without hassle. Expedited shipping is great help, too.

Had an old D60 and was long overdue for an upgrade. Spent some time researching various other models, and made the decision on this model. It's been 2 weeks since I received it and haven't had a single complaint. It's button set-up couldn't be more convenient and quality of pics on point.

I have owned several SLR and DSLR cameras in the past 30 years. The D7100 is the best. It is easy to use and takes sharp pictures. I got a prime lens, Nikon 35 mm f1.8G plus the kit zoom lens 18-140 mm for it. I just love it. I highly recommend it to everyoe looking for a new DSLR!
