The price was right for this iMac. I weighed a lot of options and even broke down and made a list of what I use a computer for, how I use it and what things I was definitely not willing to budge on. I saw the retina displays on the new 27" iMac and the macbook pros and instantly fell in love with the crisp beauty of their screens. The iMac was cost prohibitive and I wasn't certain I needed a macbook (plus the uptick in price). My dusty near 8 year old laptop hadn't moved from my desk in years-- and the few times I took it with me traveling I didn't even use it. I have an iPad mini and an iPhone. Traveling isn't meant for workhorses and I figured the few times I need a computer while traveling I could borrow one (friends, hotels, work, or internet cafes). So I decided I could junk my old TV and use an iMac as my media station at home...exactly what I was missing (previously watched everything on the mini). So it was really down between the different iMac models and the smaller screen won out. A) price was better B) mouse tracking was easier c) i am a recent complete apple convert and I wanted to test drive before dropping SO MUCH $$$ d) I can use this as a trade in, secondary computer later or as a lovely hand me down.

Positives: media station a boon, speakers are nice, photo editing looks to be much nicer on a larger screen, large hard drive means I get to have my entire music library in a native setting, all my apple devices are synced for ease of syncing, some things really do just work better, I like force quit, parallel for running other operating systems the peripherals are excellent. Love the magic mouse. Am considering getting the track pad just because it essentially mimics a touch screen with out actually smudging the screen.

negatives: some websites (Amazon, Facebook) are atrociously slow using safari. simple fix, downloaded Firefox, which I used on my other computer anyways. I just like the ability to sync between devices with safari (possibly the reason it was so slow), sadly, the price is still steep even at a somewhat budget desktop all in one. I seriously could have gotten an arguably better computer that was easier to navigate being a windows user most of my life. Windows 8 isn't all that terrible, just annoying. Similarly annoying to OS X is annoying, my external hard rives that were formatted to PCs will allow me to transfer data from them, but not to them without reformatting, basically, some creature comforts from windows are just missing. There are tweaks, but I haven't set them up yet, or necessarily found them. But honestly, I have a very ambivalent attitude regarding them. Sacrifices for some gains that in this day and age are pretty convenient gains. Once I become use to this new monster of a machine, I think I won't mind.

But d*mn, that price. Seriously. And the inevitable, this comp will be super outdated in about 5 seconds after typing this review.

If you want a not gouging you decent mac, get this model. Play around with it, make your modifications, and then you'll not even think about using your computer. It really will just work. Then, once retina quality screens are the norm, get one of those beauties. Seriously.

I was worried about retina ruining my ability to tolerate all the other screens I deal with on a daily basis, a so I chose not to beautiful screen.

Bought this iMac to replace my Core Duo model which was a bit slow running Mavericks. Well, this new model is virtually no faster and makes an annoying humming/vibrating sound all to often. Also, since the computer connections have changed over the years, some of my peripherals required expensive adapters with the new system.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

B&H had a the greatest deal with this late 2013, 21.5inches iMac. It was not only the cheapest as new than any other site, but also comparing to the refurbished ones.

This iMac is equipped with 8GB ram, and it is okay with regular use. I am not using it for any of the media related work, so that I am pretty much satisfied with it. But I hope to have 16 GB with either Fusion or Flash hard drive for the sake of much better speed. It is very unfortunate that the memory cannot be upgraded by the owner without breaking the warranty. So, if you wish to have bigger memory, select another model that you can switch at the purchasing.

Screen size is just perfect since my desk is not that big. The screen is about 26inches away from my eyes, and it is good enough to catch the entire screen. I had 24 inches screen before, and it was too big that I was not able to grasp all the contents on the screen.

Overall, it is still very good buy even though it came out 2 1/2 years ago unless you need retina screen for the professional picture or video editing purpose.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

We bought this computer for our home use. As an update to our 2007 iMac it continues the Apple tradition of functional and clean design with intuitive easy to use software.
We like the updated design, faster processor and sleeker profile, but are missing the internal Superdrive.
As a machine that is a few years old we were concerned that it might already be slightly outdated, but have found that the performance and features are more than adequate, meet our needs and met our budget

I actually had help one evening from a tech support friend from one of the DAW companies. My 7 year old mac's were just NOT going to handle the load of running such intensive programs. He advised me NOT to get the latest and greatest because some of the software installed was too advance for some of the DAW's made. This one looked like it had never been opened. I'm wondering if it was overstock. Anyway, incredible amounts of silent processing power and memory for my home narration studio. I'm thinking I will probably be getting all my future equipment from BH. Thanks!

I bought it to edit my images using Photoshop and Lightroom. It's a bit different from Windows which I use professionally as a software developer and, up to this point, all my personal computers have been Windows. Having ipads and iphones over the past several years made me think about switching to Apple. So far, I haven't found a big learning curve. Once you get into the Adobe programs, it's the same. It boots faster than most of my Windows computers. Make the switch, you'll be happy.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

Made the jump from PC to MAC. Had a Macbook Pro purchased from B&H last year and it has been amazing! Therefore had to ditch the SLOW PC running Windows for an easy to use all in one for kids school work and home finances. Wanted a stable long lasting machine that did not take much space on the desktop. Clean design and low foot print makes it a perfect choice for us.

Also one thing that sold me is the ability to enable different logins which easily can control which apps the kids can open and which sites they can go to. There is also an admin bypass if you want to add sites, or do 'one time' opens of applications while in the kids accounts.

I would have preferred the newer model so I could upgrade to solid state, but got this model on sale for a great price which didn't justify the price difference to go to solid state.

Boot up from power down takes about 45-60 seconds. Not as fast as my solid state macbook pro, but much better than our old Alienware PC. Performance is good. Screen quality is good, though would have preferred the Retina display version. But again, sale price won.

1TB of drive space is more than enough for any home use application. I would recommend a backup storage to turn on Time Machine to back up your Mac and back up all your files/images/photos/movies etc.

Note that this does not come with any CD drive, so if you need to install software that is not downloadable, you'll need a super drive.

Did not try any gaming besides online apps and flash based games, on this Mac so not sure on it's performance with hardcore games. Purpose of purchasing was for a stable practical, everyday use machine for finances, taxes, web surfing, movie/video streaming.

Another great selling point and money saver is that the operating system has been free to upgrade going through the entire Mac OS X family to Yosemite to El Capitan. Had to run the upgrade to El Capitan which takes about 1 hour to download and upgrade. Additionally, you can save LOTS with the included Mac Office suite (Keynote, Pages, Numbers, Garageband). I have not needed Microsoft Office for anything and I am able to open all MS documents with the Mac suite. Saves me $150+

I've been an Apple fan for a long time and these newer iMac's are probably the best computers they've ever made. So compact; they have everything you need and their light and easy to set up. Been using this computer at work. I'm able to have over a dozen tabs open on my browser, while running Photoshop and iMovie. It handles it all very well. I can even run a free app that let's me log into my old Windows computer. It's like having dual boot without the need to reboot. Big productivity booster. Love the iMac.

I was a windows user before I bought my iMac. I never liked the way windows operated. I thought it was just I was a computer guy. Then I bought my Apple machine, the easiness, and how user friendly it is. It was like night and day. It would really be hard for me to own another windows machine. Nothing against windows, there just not for me
