The price was right for this iMac. I weighed a lot of options and even broke down and made a list of what I use a computer for, how I use it and what things I was definitely not willing to budge on. I saw the retina displays on the new 27" iMac and the macbook pros and instantly fell in love with the crisp beauty of their screens. The iMac was cost prohibitive and I wasn't certain I needed a macbook (plus the uptick in price). My dusty near 8 year old laptop hadn't moved from my desk in years-- and the few times I took it with me traveling I didn't even use it. I have an iPad mini and an iPhone. Traveling isn't meant for workhorses and I figured the few times I need a computer while traveling I could borrow one (friends, hotels, work, or internet cafes). So I decided I could junk my old TV and use an iMac as my media station at home...exactly what I was missing (previously watched everything on the mini). So it was really down between the different iMac models and the smaller screen won out. A) price was better B) mouse tracking was easier c) i am a recent complete apple convert and I wanted to test drive before dropping SO MUCH $$$ d) I can use this as a trade in, secondary computer later or as a lovely hand me down.

Positives: media station a boon, speakers are nice, photo editing looks to be much nicer on a larger screen, large hard drive means I get to have my entire music library in a native setting, all my apple devices are synced for ease of syncing, some things really do just work better, I like force quit, parallel for running other operating systems the peripherals are excellent. Love the magic mouse. Am considering getting the track pad just because it essentially mimics a touch screen with out actually smudging the screen.

negatives: some websites (Amazon, Facebook) are atrociously slow using safari. simple fix, downloaded Firefox, which I used on my other computer anyways. I just like the ability to sync between devices with safari (possibly the reason it was so slow), sadly, the price is still steep even at a somewhat budget desktop all in one. I seriously could have gotten an arguably better computer that was easier to navigate being a windows user most of my life. Windows 8 isn't all that terrible, just annoying. Similarly annoying to OS X is annoying, my external hard rives that were formatted to PCs will allow me to transfer data from them, but not to them without reformatting, basically, some creature comforts from windows are just missing. There are tweaks, but I haven't set them up yet, or necessarily found them. But honestly, I have a very ambivalent attitude regarding them. Sacrifices for some gains that in this day and age are pretty convenient gains. Once I become use to this new monster of a machine, I think I won't mind.

But d*mn, that price. Seriously. And the inevitable, this comp will be super outdated in about 5 seconds after typing this review.

If you want a not gouging you decent mac, get this model. Play around with it, make your modifications, and then you'll not even think about using your computer. It really will just work. Then, once retina quality screens are the norm, get one of those beauties. Seriously.

I was worried about retina ruining my ability to tolerate all the other screens I deal with on a daily basis, a so I chose not to beautiful screen.

As for me the jury is out on this one. A great disappointment.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

I use my Mac for email, internet and photo editing, as well as general use.I love the more elongated screen and the option to to show or hide various tools in most apps. There seems to be less buffering time using Chromecast then with our older iMac. The wireless keyboard and mouse are great. I'd prefer that the USB and other connections weren't in the back.

The ease of set up was pretty nice. One cord to plug in. The integrated monitor/cpu takes up very little space on the desk. We can easily move this computer anywhere in the house with the wifi. This is the first Mac I've owned and I'm still getting used to the keyboard. I will also be putting MS Office on here so we can look at files from school and work. Overall, very pleased.

has the same policy as apple. I also purchased my wife a iMAC and laptop, best choice I've made in a long time.

I am so glad I switched from a Macbook to the IMac Desktop! I use my computer primarily for editing photos and working with graphics. The IMac screen and responsiveness is exceptional and I even find that I have less stress on my neck with a desktop screen. It was super easy to setup and transfer data and programs from my laptop. I have not encountered any negatives.

This Mac is used as a personal device by a retiree and replaces a vintage (2008) iMac.Very easy transfer of data from the old to new using Apple software. The new machine is - as expected - faster in every respect compared to the old iMac.Another home run by Apple.

I bought this as a gift to my relative who was using an older Mac Mini. The iMac setup was smooth and easy. The computer was much faster and smarter than the old mini. The $[$]discount compared to the price in other electronic stores and the free Parallel software made it worth the money to upgrade.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

This iMac is really nice, lightweight and looks really nice externally.

It comes with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard. The keyboard is lacking the 10-key which is kind of a bummer but it's not crucial. Mouse is nice.

Only complaint is the phasing out of the optical drive.. I didn't even think to look at whether or not it had one. Yes, dvd/cds aren't being used as much but it is nice to be able to rip an old cd or dvd you have lying around when you want, play an old movie or burn something.

Overall, I would say it's a great buy.

This iMac replaces one from 2008 that had grown old and slow (sort of like me) plus its hard drive is going. I'll probably have a new hard drive put in the old one and keep it for odd tasks or give it away but this iMac is so much faster and nicer (except for the Magic Mouse) that I may not.

Delivered safe and without sales tax (great thing about B&H if you are not in NY). Easy setup. Fast, reliable... the only thing was figuring out how to turn off the keyboard (hold the power button down).. easy to migrate from my 9 year old macbook pro...(which still works! just a bit slow) Why buy a PC? The mac lasts 3x longer and is only twice as expensive... The only thing was that I wanted to swap the magic mouse for a trackpad... Apple lets you do that but B&H cannot...however, the magic mouse works very well... so maybe I won't miss the trackpad

i always used macbook pro, then switched to another laptop brand because of the price. well, you get what you pay for. i was in unfamiliar territory, slow internet, popping windows and ads every second... newspaper sites loads only half the page, @ doesnt work due to popping up windows trying to sell me stuff i am sercing . etc etc. i installed registry cleaners, antivirus software purchased, installed adblock, windowblock and other stuff to make the experience more bearable. but no avail. i sold the laptop and get back to iMac. Serenity now! i almost lost my mind. thanks imac for giving me my sanity.
