Our band, E. Christina Herr & Wild Frontier, has struggled for years to record and mix music with a Mac Mini. We've had some success, (Best Americana Song for "Townes"), but we never had the computer power to work easily. We settled on the 21.5" iMac with the 2.9ghz processor. We called around and decided to buy from B&H because of past experience and their reputation. We've had the iMac for a couple of weeks and it's a dream to work with. Super fast and elegantly designed. It's not a Mac Pro, but it will serve our needs for years to come. The only drawback is some of our video, graphic and word processing software are too old for the Haswell CPU. We're having to buy new software which will probably increase our efficiency and up the quality of our music.

Comes with a mouse without a scroll wheel and software with disapearing scroll tabs. Software is not modifiable as in the past and seems aimed more for an avarege user. Not geared as a work computer. An example is Image Capture. It is pretty much a useless app, but opens as default EVERY time a new card is plugged into the computer with no way to disable it or remove the app.

Great computer so far!

By Richierich

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

First purchase of a Mac and so far impressed! Software is great! Only issue so far is getting used to the mouse which seems a bit slow and still getting used to not having a right click button.

It is an excellent apple product built with quality and really powerful applications. Transition from the windows environment to the OS environment is different and enriching.

It is fast, elegant and a nice machine to work on. For regular personal work this is highly recommended.

B&H service was really great receive the mac in a well protected box in 2 days for free shipping. Will highly recommend business with them.

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

I had been using a PC and was tired of all the issues with lock-ups and Microsoft's poor operating system. The iMac was so easy to set-up and get running! The integration between my iMac, iPhone, and iPad was so easy to setup as well! The screen is very clear and I love the built in camera. This iMac does not take up much desk space and there is only one cord on my desk! Much different than my old PC where I had a lot of different cords. Apple Rocks!

Comments about Apple 21.5" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

So, as an initial disclaimer, I'm an Apple fanboy! I own a small company where most of my computers are WinXP with Office. XP works but it's clunky and virus prone. Win-whatever today is more refined but the standard stuff in Control Panel has been (dis)-organized by an epileptic or a sales person, not sure which. Certainly not someone who's sensitive to work productivity and efficiency. Also, to upgrade my computers to "Win-whatever's flavor today" I must upgrade all of my copies of Office.. with the new, improved, not-intuitive Ribbon interface. Grrrr! So, back to my new Mac. The purchase through B&H was, as usual, a breeze. With free expedited shipping and a very competitive price they're highly recommended. I bought this computer to replace my Early-2008 iMac that had just failed due to a bad graphics card. I already had a copy of the old harddrive (use SuperDuper software) which I'd fitted with a SATA to USB converter. I powered up the new computer, answered a few questions about language, type of keyboard and mouse and the password for my Wi-fi. I was then prompted to point to either the network path of my old computer or it's hard-drive if I wanted to recover my old files and settings. I plugged in the old drive and one hour and 20 minutes later the new computer looked exactly like my old one. The competition is so screwed!! The only follow up from me was authenticating my iTunes account to recover music and video purchases.I know that the Mac/Windows preference issue is as polarizing as politics and you probably pay more for the hardware but with a standard (two button/scroll) mouse, the experience for the average user is difficult to fault. The bad feature with this 21" model of iMac is that upgrading the memory or hard-drive is a real problem. The way-in is behind the screen and it's glued to the very thin case. Beyond that you'll have to dis-mantle 70% of the inside to find the memory sticks. Check out FaceTube for a video of the ordeal. Buy the Apple Extended Warranty.Works very well with your iPad and iPhoneA great product!

The computer works as I would expect and the setup was fast and easy. The gloss screen is way too reflective. I can't have any windows or lights behind me when I work as they will refect on the screen. My older Apple displays are not like that.

Little bit of a curve for learning coming from pc. great file control etc.
                  a pleasure to use.
My only real complaint is lack of dvd media support. I understand this media
will past by....but for those of us who still depend on this media it kinda sucks.
The streaming media etc may be the future, but it has not filled all the voids.

I'm trying adobe elements 12 for my DVD media concerns... so far so good.
This seems to be the deepest software in my budget.
