I've gone back and forth between Mac's and PC's for the last 10 years. They both have their trade off's but I'm continually amazed at how solid the Apple platform is. We bought this to upgrade our "home base" computer so we could do basic home tasks for the family (we also have several laptops) but I chose this 27" iMac so I could also do some video editing. I have about 35 mini-DV tapes I wanted to import and archive as well as about 150 gigs of AVCHD video. While it's in the middle of performance on their iMacs options I felt it was the right balance of price versus speed. I really don't mind if my video takes a few seconds or minutes longer to render. The machine showed up perfectly from B&H and I easily bumped up the RAM to 16gb with the trap door on the 27" model. The speed is incredible but the video import and render stability is fantastic. I am using FCPX along with a 2tb RAID1 set-up hooked up to the USB3 ports where I placed my video working files as well as my exported share files. I used a thunderbolt to firewire adapter to plug into my Sony mini-DV camcorder which is recognized perfectly and the tapes import easily. After some basic editing I am exporting out at full DV files which only takes about a minute for the export to the external RAID. I can remember when rendering an hour file would take 2-3 hours on an old Mac I had about 6-7 years ago. While I don't recommend multi-tasking when working with video I have found myself doing it often and the machine doesn't skip a beat.I also do a little graphic design and working with Illustrator and PhotoShop is a fantastic experience. Not only does it handle graphics wonderfully but the 27" screen is eye candy. I didn't intend to but I now find myself moving my work files over to my new home iMac because I enjoy working with graphics on it so much more then my PC.So far have had the iMac for about a couple months and couldn't be happier.

I have been Mac only for 10 years, so this is not buyer's remorse. I do quite a bit of photo editing and this is the slowest Mac I have ever bought. Not slowest processor, slowest machine. 8GB of RAM and 4 cores and I get the spinning beach ball when I open Safari! I wish I had bought the fusion drive and a faster processor. That said, the screen is gorgeous with plenty of real estate. It is quiet and (so far) does not run hot.I also do not like having the SD card slot on the back.I would not recommend this for intensive photo or video editing. For general casual use it is probably more than you need.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

This is a nice high quality product.
It's pretty expensive comparing to other pc desktops.
I think Apple Inc the greedy should drop in a i7 CPU.
Considering the company release their flagship smartphones with 16G total storage including iOS 8, barely not much usable space, this is not strange.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

This is replacing a 24" Early 2008 iMac that served me well over the years but finally had to be retired when my Lightroom catalog grew too large. Even with the memory maxed out (6gb), even with the boot disk only half full, it was tedious to work with LR and PS open at the same time. Going from 24" to 27" was initially a bit overwhelming but I adapted. What is even nicer is that, unlike the old machine, it is possible to dial back the luminance of the display to a reasonable level for photo editing.I added 16gb to the stock 8 (very easy) and am now enjoying a satisfyingly fast machine.

How can you go wrong with a 27-inch screen? Love that I can actually see the photographs and designs I'm working on, and the large screen makes it great for multitasking as well. Good number of USB ports, wish there was a disc drive, but otherwise, very sleek and runs well!

Apple products speak for themselves. They are expensive, but they are quality. And if you are a Windows user, there is a learning curve, though even as someone about to turn 70, the adjustment was pretty easy. I bought the 27" iMac for myself and loved it so much that I sent one to each of my two grown sons. B&H had the best price and their service is top rate. I generally use [*], but for electronics I''m sold on B&H.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

What can you say. It's a 27" imac that's been around for a while. It does the job. I bought one for myself a year ago and bought one for my wife just now. I don't think much has changed on the hardware front since I bought mine. Shipped with older version of Mavericks even though Yosemite is out. Had to upgrade to latest version of Mavericks to be able to migrate from old mac which was running latest version. However, in order to upgrade, I had to create a user. If a user is created prior to migrating, the migration won't work as it should, so I had to come up with a workaround which was a real PITA. On another note, I have upgraded one of our Macs to Yosemite and seems to be running without problems, so I might upgrade the other ones as well when I find the time. Seems to be more of a cosmetic thing, i.e. no need to upgrade applications after install. Some improvements with icloud across devices but I don't use it, so can't speak to that.

                        The Mac 27'' works great.
One of the impressive feature is the engineering of the product.
                        Fast even with 8GB memory.
                        Great resolution.
                        Easy interfacing with different Browsers.
                        Email synchronization easy done
For W7 on the Mac I use Parallel, it took some tweaking for good results.

I use both windows 7 and os x Yosemite.

Yes, I would recommend this to a friend.

My wife has macular degeneration and needed bigger , brighter monitor, where type and images could be enlarged, to replace 5-year old 21" iMac. Beautiful clear screen, very fast . Nice also for watching the occasional movie DVD.

This iMac installed very quickly using an earlier backup. All of my Mac and iOS products on my network see each other instantly, transfer data and work flawlessly. I cannot imagine how a desktop could give more satisfaction.

With its prices, high quality web pages, good customer service B&H makes it easy to buy.

Great computer, loaded with enough of everything for you to compute and to do other things efficiently. There is just not room for expansion, other than RAM memory. Besides that, I love this computer. I have always been a PC guy, but PC's have a tendency to break down so quickly and get all cluttered up with things you don't need.

I bought this computer mainly to run PhotoShop, and secondarily for web surfing and desktop office purposes.

Haven't actually purchased PhotoShop yet...but the resolution on the retina display is fantastic, and the processor speed is excellent so far.

I switched from a Windows computer and couldn't be more pleased!
