Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

I bought a 2013 iMac because I needed to NOT have Yosemite. I will be using specific video editing software (Autodesk Smoke, Avid) and, at the time I bought it, neither program was supported by Yosemite. Just very recently, I see that the most recent Autodesk build will work with Yosemite, but Avid is still not ready. I'm not sure about any of the Adobe programs. Do your homework and research the software you use. Having said that, the machine itself is working well, just as I expected. I do wish that Apple had included a hardware "audio in" plug, but I hope to find a USB workaround. Thunderbolt hubs are expensive.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

I purchased this computer primarily because i wanted to upgrade to Pro Tools 11 and my old imac(2006) wouldn't be able to handle it. I've opened up a small Pro Tools 11 session without issue. I've installed Photoshop Elements 11 and it opens up without issue. My Epson Workforce 840 drivers work well also. I've also connected 2 external drives formatted to exfat and they work well between this iMac and my PC. I use a numeric pad keyboard(works better for Pro Tools), so it's not wireless. I have to connect it to a USB hub in the back, but the keyboard has 2 USB hubs itself which work well for a printer and a ilok2(those who use pro tools and plugins know what i'm talking about.) I've only had the computer for 2 weeks and haven't been able to test the power of this thing. But with i7 and the upgrade to 24GB ram(i installed memory from Crucial myself and it was super easy), i am sure this thing can handle most applications. The iMac is silent, great for a recording studio. If you purchase any sample libraries that are upwards of 20GB that you need to install, you'll probably need an external DVD drive. I use the Superior Drummer 2 software which has about 25GB of sample drum sounds and you can't download it online. The company sends you 5 DVDs. I bought a Pioneer external blu ray drive and it works well. Speaking of blu-ray, Apple doesn't support blu-ray. You won't be able to play a blu ray movie even if you have an external blu ray drive. You have to download an application that will allow you to do that and so far i haven't found one that i can trust. Roxio Toast allows you to burn to blu-ray disk, but you still can't play a purchased Blu-Ray film.
