Switched from a Windows based computer for video editing - which was like going from driving a 1970's ford pinto to a Cadillac. B & H staff was very helpful (informative) as usual.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

First experience with Fusion Drive and I must say it's as good as Apple claims... fast and quiet...a real clever innovation. I use Aperture and Photoshop on my machine for managing and editing my photos. Also use my machine for day-to-day stuff...mail, home office applications, web browser, music, etc. This iMac replaces my early 2009 Mac Pro. Decided against the new Mac Pro because most of the Apps I use aren't optimized for threading so don't take best advantage of multiple cores. Happy with that decision as it allowed me to use my Apple HD Cinema Display as a second display, which is great for photo editing.

Not specific to this computer, but Apple could provide more guidance on migration from an old machine to a new one. I had to discover a few things the hard way. For example, because I had the very latest OS X on my old machine and the new one came with an earlier version installed on it, Migration Assistant wouldn't recognize my old machine until I updated the OS on the new iMac. Also, Migration Assistant hung at about 75% completion (~4 hours into the migration)...discovered the problem was with disk permissions on one or both machines. After repairing permissions on both the migration finally completed successfully. I wasted a lot of time unnecessarily for lack of a couple of simple guidelines...
          1) Make sure both machines are running the same version of OS X; and
          2) Use Disk Utility to repair Disk Permissions on both machines...
BEFORE attempting to use Migration Assistant. Apart from this, setting up the iMac was trivial. Bottom line, this is a great machine that I'm going to enjoy using for a long while.

Editing, mostly photography, also video. This is my first fusion/hybrid HDD, I cannot figure out what determines what files go on which part of the drive, although I am pretty sure the "Application" folder and subsequent program files end up on the SSD side.

This product will be used for photo editing. I real like the large veiwing area it really allows me to get in tight when it comes to retouching. The i7 core is fast and it helps to have 3T of storageamd 16GB or memory. Added with the new Mavrick OS X from apple I can connect with my other 21" iMac and work them both with one mouse and keyboard.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

The iMac and Mavericks are everything one has come to expect, fast, classy design. At present Thuderbolt not very useful, expect to use USB 3 for most peripherals. Adding Windows 8 via Bootcamp difficult if not impossible until a few more things are fixed. Problems may be in the install process or in the Windows drivers. As of 12/4/2013 its still a problem.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

I have always used Mac Pro and tower type computers but this time, I needed a monitor at the same time I wanted to upgrade my desktop computer. So, I thought I'de try an iMac and save some money over waiting for the new Mac Pro to come out. I think I made a good choice. I need extra speed for doing video and photo editing so I use SSD's when ever possible, they are the future of storage. I also need lots of storage so I like to raid 0, four spinning drives together for extra fast read/write times. The thunderbolt connections are why I was able to go with an iMac. That was the big game changer for me. Hooking up SSD's with thunderbolt is blazing fast and the only way to go if you do much video work. By the time this one needs an upgrade, the 4K monitors and SSD's will have dropped enough for me to go that direction, probably with a Mac Pro. I like the options that a Pro gives but until that day, I will have no problem getting everything done with this iMac. I got this one with the 3TB fusion drive and it works fine, but I wish I had gotten the 1 TB SSD. I'm using an external SSD now, several really but that is the only mistake I made and it's not a big mistake really. For pure speed, I can still get raided SSD's from OWC that blow away the speed of an internal SSD, so, it just depends how important that extra speed is too you. With thunderbolt, anything is possible and that is what sets this computer way ahead of past iMac. The PCI is much faster then SETA for thunderbolt connections.

Comments about Apple 27" iMac Desktop Computer (Late 2013):

This computer is practically perfect. It has a large accurate screen, very fast processing, small footprint, and light weight. It is a very fine design. Apple products are clearly superior.

As a photographer, I use this computer as my primary image processing tool and it performs beautifully. My only complaint is the lack of a DVD/CD drive. Sooner or later the internet and the 'cloud' will make DVD's redundant and irrelevant, but the trend to eliminate them is premature. I resent having to buy a peripheral drive.
