I normally don't write reviews, but since this is pretty new and there are very few reviews out there, I thought I'd write one. I purchased this mouse to replace the older, corded one I use for work and this thing is awesome. It's a little more expensive than the corded one, but I think the added price is well worth it. The cable on the older one started to break around the base from being creased and mushed from being tossed in my backpack numerous times. I travel a lot and am often required to do work away from the office, so the micro usb charge cable (which you can also use tethered to your computer) saves you the pain of travelling with another unique cable. This coupled with the lack of a hard corded cable makes for a very nice piece of gear. Like the previous one, the build quality is very nice and I have little fear of throwing it in my backpack and having it break (especially with the lack of cable). The one I had prior to this slid around a lot, causing slight frustration when trying to navigate larger or oddly shaped assemblies. The new one does NOT have this problem whatsoever. The unit is a bit heavier and has a nice grippy base. The other nice thing about it is that the base is more rectangular, rather than round so it's easy to spot if the mouse is in a weird orientation. I haven't had the unit for very long so I cannot comment on battery life, but I've been using it pretty regularly for about 1.5 weeks on a single charge. I'd say that's pretty good considering my Lenovo Laptop barely lasts for 1.5 hours fully charged with 50% screen brightness.PROS:+Nice heavy base, prevents it from moving around while working+Works very well and easily with Autodesk Inventor 2012 and 2014 on Windows 7+Charges and tethers with Microusb cable+Square base allows for easy adjustment during useCONS:-NONEI apologize for the typos and run on sentences. Hope this helps!

Quality production, Basic 3D navigation is effortless. HOWEVER, currently not fully compatible with Sketchup (e.g. no "camera mode", et al) Have tried fro a month to get a response from tech support. They claim that their is an answer (from global support in Germany) but just somehow can't figure out how to use email - at all, nor will they read the response over the phone. The apparently only US-based so-called tech support agent "lies like a rug". I've provided 6 email address, 'whitelisted' their email address with my IP and spam filter service and 3DCX 'support' in Salt Lake lies and lies and lies. Today attempted to escalate this situation with #DCX management. Not response - ntm resolution - yet. Their promo videos wrt SketchUp are blatantly false until/unless they fix this mess and learn how to use email.

PS I have no clue wrt compatibility issues with other apps.

Essential tool for 3D

By White Rabbit

Comments about 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Wireless 3D Mouse:

Anyone working in 3D applications that navigate 3D space needs one of these. (Check that you particular app is supported ). Not only does it give freedom to fluidly move around in any direction using one hand it still allows your other hand to use a regular mouse too...making work more efficient. It can be configured in camera mode or object mode depending on preference. You can move in, out, side to side, up and down, rotate and tilt views...all at the same time! The mouse is solid steel and heavy so does not move as you operates the knob. (The portable version which I have too isn't as heavy but is still as solid). You kinda have to use it to understand the experience but you will not be disappointed if you make the decision to get one.

It takes an hour to get used to then it works perfect. Very useful. For the beginning, set the rotational speeds low from the application specific setup so you can practice and get a good feeling of the motion easily. After one hour of use it becomes your hand in the screen.

Comments about 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Wireless 3D Mouse:

It works well in most supported programs, but integration is poor in a few. The configuration/driver program does not offer any special configuration for unsupported apps. There is no way to map axis to joystick controls or anything like that, only simple things like scroll or pan in unsupported apps.

In 3ds max it works well, usually. Sometimes it will have choppy/poor tracking for no reason, though this is somewhat rare. It saves a lot of time being able to do things like paint weights or manipulate geometry while rotating the camera. This is much better than other options like Wacom touch (which doesn't work at the same time as pen input). In mudbox I have been unable to get it to work at all, it just flies all over the place with the slightest input. In some other "supported" programs like photoshop, the add-on menu integration does nothing, and it hassles me to configure the product every time I launch photoshop.

The product did come with some small scratches on the back where the USB data/charge port was, even though it was sealed in it's box. Not a big deal, but a little tacky.

Comments about 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Wireless 3D Mouse:

I first saw the 3D Connexion SpaceMouse on a Sketchup tutorial I found on YouTube. I was so impressed with the control of a 3D model that I ordered one right away. My first try at the mouse made me think that it was not working. It was not moving the cursor. I later realized that the SpaceMouse was not intended to replace my standard mouse, but to increase my productivity by quickly and smoothly navigating around my models while drawing with my standard mouse. I now spend many hours working on creating perfect plans for my woodworking projects. I could not be happier with my SpaceMouse.

Comments about 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Wireless 3D Mouse:

I bought this to make navigating my various Autodesk 3D graphics programs easier. All of my programs (not necessarily versions) are supported according to 3Dconnexion; but...

Inventor 2015 works great with the mouse which is the primary application I bought it for.

3DS MAX 2014 works great with it too; though I had to reverse the directions of travel in the software for it to make sense to me. No big deal, which is why a reverse switch is available in the application specific software settings.

Revit 2015 is dodgy at best with slow reaction times. 3Dconnexion states Revit 2012 is the supported version.

The mouse is worthless in AutoCAD 2015 for 3D work as it is hideously slow and unresponsive. Granted most people use other programs than AutoCAD for 3D work; but sometimes the need arises. Using the mouse in AutoCAD reminded me of the first time I tried Flight Simulator on an 8088 or 286 powered PC.

The mouse is great with Google Earth.

The mouse is heavy so it stays put on my desk when I pull the cap up to pan up. It also has a sticky silicone (I'm guessing) pad to keep it from sliding on my desk.

It takes a bit of getting used to as the mouse is used by the least dominant hand; but that's no big deal.

I knocked a star off for a couple of reasons. The mouse isn't recognized by Logitech's transceiver and unifying software, so I had use up a port for the Spacemouse's transceiver. 3Dconnexion is owned by Logitech.

The other reason I knocked a star off is that it uses a rechargeable battery instead of AA's like my Logitech Marathon M705 mouse. So although it's cordless you still need a cord nearby to recharge it, and it uses a micro USB port like cell phones do, which I find a pain to connect.

Bottom line is that this 3D mouse complements the standard 3D navigation tools built into each 3D application. I still use zoom window, top, front, left, etc when I need more precise navigation.

The 3D Mouse is a great idea but it's not paying off for me yet. I'm using Cinema4D and often times the viewport has trouble catching up to the subtleties of the 3dMouse. This results in overshooting my targets. Also I haven't figured out yet how to set rotation points (as you'd usually do with pointing the mouse) so long story short: it doesn't fit in my workflow yet. I still want to give it some more chances but so far I couldn't find any help online of people that figured out how to tame it for Cinema4D.

It would be a perfect gadget if the proportional control would be raplaced with e.g. 3 rotary encoders and a simple switch for a total of 6 degrees of freedom. At it present form you will be moving 2-3 controls at once.

Works great with Solidworks 2013/2014. This mouse is fully functional and able to program it to Solidworks drop downs. I've been using this mouse for a few weeks now and it's a real time saver. I would recomend this to anybody!

I realized I could move just as well using my Logitec mouse with some programed buttons. I wish I hadn't bothered with this purchase. The quality however is very good, and I appreciate the potential of this device. I'm just able to make much use of it.
