I upgraded from a panny GH1 to the GX7 and I am glad I did. The only hesitation I had was that I was tempted by the Oly E-m1 splashproofing. I sure wish Panasonic would add this feature to their M4/3 cameras. I take my camera out hiking almost every weekend. Tough lighting, tough conditions. The flip up EVF and LCD make it easier to protect the GX7 from the elements(and get the spectacular low shots without groveling in the mud), and then I toss it in a zip lock with reusable dessicant when not actively shooting, on wet days. I was never happy with the GH1 color rendition, no matter how much I played with settings or in PS. GX7 is much better at grabbing colors and really showing a depth of correct color, in addition to the extra clarity. And what can be pulled out of deep shadow in RAW images is nothing short of amazing. I will continue to use the awesome 1.7x 20 Panny lens, which will be even better with the in-body stabilization. I have the new 3.5x14-140 panny lens on order, to knock a half pound off my previous rig. 1.5 pounds for a high quality sensor camera WITH a 28-280 zoom lens! That is a phenomenal hiking setup. Worth dealing with the bag and dessicant for wet weather. I am just starting to play with the features. Pan is pretty decent, although a bit of learning curve and some restrictions. Set a custom spot on the dial to vertical pan setting and pan horizontally with the camera on end to boost panning resolution. Search on "GX7 tips and tricks" and custom settings for good ideas of what you can do with this adaptable camera. I just set it on full auto the first hike I used it, since I got it only the day before, and it did a respectable job on full intelligent mode. But I will have a lot of fun exploring all of its extensive capabilities, with plenty of function buttons to make it all handy. Another cool trick is looking through the EVF, which turns off the LCD, but you can set it to still use the LCD as a touch panel for grabbing focus spots with your thumb, while looking through the EVF.

I purchased this to repace my GX1 and gain the integrated viewfinder. The optional viewfinder was the biggest weakness of the GX1. On the plus side for the GX7, the controls, size, image quality are all excellent. But no amount of diopter adjustment could give me an acceptably clear image in the viewfinder. SInce the actual images and the view in the LCD was sharp, I initially thought I had a defective unit. After many tests, talking to Panasonic's technical folks, and digging through the detailed specs on the international site, it turns out the the LFV on this camera is significanly lower resolution than many of their other current and former cameras (e.g. G5, G6, LVF2 on the GX1) For a high end camera this is very surprising.IF you are not using the viewfinder, I'd rate the camera 5 stars, but there are more cost effective solutions (You are paying for the viewfinder). Likewise if you find a low resolution image in the LVF sufficient, then it is a fine camera. For me the disapointing viewfinder is a deal breaker in a $[$] camera.B&H's excellent return policy saved the day.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I got this camera since I wanted to try the Nocticron 42.5mm f1.2 lens. I first didn't like the camera, but I am slowly getting use to it. I kind of like it now.

Pro: Lens, lens and more lens, good IQ in low iso, lot of function buttons, silent shutter

Con: IQ drops around iso 3200 and gets worst from there.

I almost sold this camera, but I am glad I didn't. The silent mode is awesome, and they offer a lot of good sharp lenses. I don't think I would of purchased this camera system if Sony had wide rage of good lenses. Excellent travel camera with small lenses.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I got this camera to use as alternative for when I don't want to carry the DSLR and lenses around. I also purchased the 20mm lens with it. The camera and extra lens fit nicely into a little carrying case (that also fits nicely into my carry on backpack, without taking up the whole thing).

        Pros:
-Image quality of this sensor is quite good (noticably better than my first micro 4/3 camera was).
-Autofocus is quick and also accurate most of the time. If I don't like the focus point, I can touch the screen where I want it to focus. Of course, there's manual focus too. The manual focus highlights the edges to show you where your focal plane is, which is helpful for someone with not so perfect vision.
        - The shutter action is very quick. I usually bracket my shots. I can hold the shutter relase button down and it will take three shots as fast as the shutter can actuate. No buffer issues for me.
        - The 20mm lens takes very good pictures, with nice sharp edges and little distortion. With this lense, the camera is the right size to carry around in the city. The 14-42mm lens is not bad either.
-The EVF is nice to have. I really wanted this so I turned down a few other cameras for this one.
-Most of the features are pretty intuitive.

        Cons:
Nothing stands out as really bad about this camera. I wish it were a little bit smaller, but I refuse to sacrifice the features it has to get there. I wish the EVF had a little bit more color depth to it, but it's not bad. I wish the screen wold flip around completely (if nothing else, to keep it protected when not in use).

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I am in love with this camera. I am a photojournalist and wedding photographer, who has carried around heavy, bulky, noisy, cumbersome camera gear for my entire 20-year career. I have the back/shoulder pain and poor posture to prove it. You could carry this camera around all day and not even notice it.

In many ways, this has the look and feel of shooting with a Leica rangefinder camera. Totally unobtrusive. It's roughly the same length as an iPhone 4S. It has the convenience of a point & shoot, but the versatility and creative controls you would expect on a pro SLR. In fact it has several useful features my pro Canon SLR body does not have. There's a learning curve as to how to access those controls, but once you carry this camera around for a week and play with it, they will become intuitive quickly.

It's diminutive size and the 90-degree viewfinder that allows you to look down instead of at your subject is a game changer when it comes to shooting street photography or other situations where you do not want to attract attention to yourself as you are shooting.

I'm not sure if they still offer the kit with the 20 mm 1.7 aspherical pancake lens, but definitely get that one if they do. It will give you about a 40 mm perspective and the lens is so fast that you won't believe the images you can pull off in low-light situations without using a flash.

There are so many great lenses from multiple manufacturers for this format that it's crazy. You can buy extremely fast, sharp lenses for this camera for a fraction of what you would pay in any other format.

If I was going to travel around the world right now, and I could only bring one camera with me, I would not hesitate to bring this, my 20 mm 1.7 pancake lens and maybe 1 or 2 other fast lenses. It's an amazing solution for anybody who doesn't want to lug a ton of gear that takes up a lot of space as you are traveling or hiking. All the gear is light as a feather. It can fit in extremely tiny spaces and you are going to love the quality even while shooting at 3200 ISO.

If you are traveling by yourself, you can use a free app on your smartphone to preview your images and trigger the camera as you are standing in the frame, while seeing your composition in real time. That's a really nice feature if you want to actually be in some of the pictures you take.

The only real complaint I have about the camera is the battery life. If you plan on shooting a lot or for longer than an hour, definitely pick up an extra battery or two. It's one of the trade-offs for it being so tiny and light.

I'm little bit disappointed with a pic quality I'm getting with Lumix GX7. I like camera but it takes the same quality of pics as my Nikon P600.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black):

My main camera is a D810 with three pro Nikon lens. I bought the GX7 to have a lighter alternative for those times when I don't need the resolution of the D810 and don't want to carry the heavier equipment. The kit lens that came on the camera is very sharp and if the range meets your needs and low light is not important to you then there is no reason to buy another lens. You hear lots about the sharpness of the 20mm f/1.7 but if you are in good light, there really isn't much difference in the sharpness of the Panasonic lens. For my needs I settled on the 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 and the 20mm f/1.7. The camera with he two lens and a couple of spare batteries comes in under 2 lbs. Thats about 1/4 the weight of my DSLR equivalent.

There are lots of reviews on this camera so I will limit my comments to those things that I haven't seen touched on as much. After using the camera for a few weeks now I feel that I can consistently produce excellent 16x20 prints. Are they as good as the ones from the D810? If I stay under ISO 800 they are pretty close. I have been particularly impressed with the JPEGs. I always shoot RAW with basic JPEGs for fast sorting. But the JPEGs on the GX7 are the best I have seen, great color and noise removal, and I can see myself for the first time using them for more casual work.

There was a learning curve for me with the GX7 and I am still learning. The first images I shot were not very good, lots out of focus. No fault of the camera, it was just different from my Nikon DSLRs and I had to learn the differences and adjust. Now I'm consistently getting sharp images and feel confident with he camera but I'm still learning.

I wanted a very portable camera that wouldn't get in the way for those occasions where photography couldn't be the priority, that would also produce excellent images and I got it with the GX7

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

This review can only repeat the same old accolades already given to this camera. And it's likely it will be soon replaced with an upgrade given the attractive pricing. So I wondered if I should wait of jump in. Having fallen in love with the M4/3 system after buying the GM1 last summer, I was tempted to get the GM5. But the beauty and functionality of the GX7 swayed me. I frankly wanted something a bit more grippable than the GM1 and wasn't looking for pocketable.

There is something about the noise properties of the Panasonic line that seems to give a silkier image as iso rises compared to other smaller sensor cameras I've tried. Even my Nikon APS-C sensors come off a bit coarser, although they are last generation (D7000, D5200). I have no problem with iso 800 for clean landscape 16X22 prints and iso 3200 for very decent tabloid size.

The EVF is very good. Not quite as clear as optical, but close and has the nice functionality of the display. I like focus peaking for long tele shots as I generally just miss the perfect focus point without it.

The last thing I'll mention is the lens quality. The slower (less expensive) M4/3 lenses from Olympus and Panasonic are amazingly sharp, have amazingly low distortion, are amazingly priced and are amazingly small and light. Excellent bokeh too.

With the GX7 and GM1 bodies, accessories and array of lenses covering 7mm to 300mm, my whole kit weighs less than 5 pounds (6 in the bag).

I bought this small micro 4/3 as a environmental travel camera. I walked 355 miles of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trek in rain, sleet, snow, frost, and wind last March with the GX7 exposed most of the time. The GX7 performed flawlessly!! I know the specs say the GX7 is not weather sealed, perhaps not, but it performed much better than expected in all but water submersion. Cannot beat the value for such an inconspicuously sized digital camera which allows rapid lens deloyment (8.5mm, 14-45mm, and 200-600mm lenses)

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black):

This camera is as perfect as a camera gets for me! The Construction is top notch with a cast metal frame. It has a real quality feel to it. The GX7 focus peaking implementation is the best I have seen. The Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) is bright and adjustable. It is the only viewfinder of all the micro 4/3 cameras that allows me to see the entire image without vignetting while wearing my glasses. The GX7 is one of the most ergonomic cameras I have used. I bought a silver GX7 when they were first released. I like the camera so much I bought the black GX7 as a second body. The image quality is outstanding!

This camera is gonna be used for wrestling events. The arena's usually have camera policies, this one is perfect for taking a DSLR type camera (that are not allowed)into the arena withought any problems. Images are great and the camera is easy to use. I recommend this to anyone.

I haven't used this for very long, but the more I use it the more I love this camera. I have a 8 year old Canon Rebel XSI that I still use but wanted a smaller travel camera. I love the size of this camera and the quality of pictures. Any fault in pictures so far is mine as I have not really studied all that this camera can do. I look forward to spending a lot of time learning the details of this camera. The only drawback is that the auto flash is not really auto. You have to hit the pop up button for it to engage. That is the only reason for 4 stars.

Years ago i was shooting with Nikon F801 (Film Days :-)) and also developed and printed by my own. then life took me to other places but slowly i started again this time with digital cameras like Pana FZ35/38. now I wanted a quality camera, compact, capable, with interchangeable lenses ETC. in short i wanted my old camera but smaller...The GX7 has a nice ISO range and comes with plenty of features that are really convenient. The MFT standard and mirroless body makes it compact and easy to carry plus a nice selection of lenses to choose from. it has almost any feature i wanted but the most important thing is that it lets you work manually and with some tweaks of the function buttons very fluently. in short i carry and use it all the time. i get a very good results (change the kit lens as fast as you can afford...) and having a lot of fun while shooting which for me its the key point for a camera!

I'm a complete amatuer. I got this camera so that I can take some nice pictures on vacations... I was deciding between this camera and a regular DSLR, but went with this because SLR cameras are just too big for me. This camera is amazinnng! Super fast focus. Looks gorgous aesthetically and comfortable to hold in hands. The built-in WiFi/NFC capability is so convenient. One recommendation: get some spare batteries. Overall, highly recommended!!

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I've had the GX7 for about 8 months now, and it's done almost everything I've asked it to do. It's light, small and fast. I can carry the kit lens and a 45-200 plus batteries, etc in a shoulder bag all day long - which I could't say about the Nikon gear that this is replacing.

The pictures look just fine on a PC or TV screen, which is the only places anybody ever sees the pictures I've taken. (I'm primarily shooting family and vacation shots.)

Other reviewers have complained about reflections on the EVF, which occasionally has been an issue; I added the eye cup, but in bright sun I take my glasses off and kick the diopter adjustment lever up a couple of notches. I haven't noticed the tearing that other reviewers have described. I've had no other issues with the EVF: the lag is short enough that I've even shot a few sporting events and caught the action that I was looking for.

The only real beef I've got is the built-in flash; the pictures look flat with the flash on - more so than with other built-in flashes I've used. I've tried pulling the flash head back with my finger to bounce it off the ceiling, but in many situations it's not strong enough to light the subject when used like that. I almost always rely on natural light, so it's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to have the option of a little fill flash from time to time. I guess I'm spoiled by the Nikon CLS system, which I'm just beginning to appreciate now.

Everything else is good; the GX7 is pretty close to the perfect travel camera; the way it handles, the features, choice of lenses are all just right. I even like the way that it doesn't look like a serious camera, so I can sneak it into places that don't allow "pro" cameras. All in all, the best camera I've ever owned - for my purposes.

I bought the Lumix GX7 camera to complement my Canon 7D Mark II for those times when I don't want to carry so much heavy equipment. It was a complete surprise to me how much I like the GX7. Not only is it small and light, but it takes exceptional photos, especially in high contrast lighting. Every time I use it, I'm just in awe of the quality and ease of use. I think I'll be using it a lot more than I initially intended!

I wanted a quality camera, with a nice size sensor one step above the point and shoot cameras but not as expensive as a full frame digital SLR camera and this is the happy medium. It has a nice ISO range, comparable to those of higher end cameras and comes with plenty of features that are really convenient, like the tilting LCD touch screen, the pop up flash, the flip-up viewfinder and the wireless connectivity. You can also use your smartphone as a remote control (that works with my Galaxy S4, not sure about others). The four thirds standard and mirroless body makes it compact and easy to carry. I droped one star only because I wish the included lens had a better zoom.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I love this camera's size and versatility. I purchased it as a 'street' camera and it works very we'll that way. But I now take it everywhere, inside and out, for 90% of all my photography needs. I still rely on a big DSLR for those grand landscape shots, but when I save up for the right lens, I will not need to lug it around anymore.

My only issue – and it's human error – is when I go to spin the rear wheel with my right thumb, I press too hard and change the current function. I'll practice restraint, I promise.

Lastly, I love the tilt viewfinder and the camera's overall look. It's old school, it feels just right.
