First, the style and design of the camera is fantastic. It fits in my hand well, I find the controls incredibly easy to use, and I have had no issues with the design of the camera giving me any issues in shooting. The EVF is well done and I find it incredibly easy to use - I love that I can easily change my focus area and also zoom in on a pinpoint in the EVF for focusing. Manual focusing is a breeze with focus peaking and has made me able to use my old Minolta lenses - something that was nearly impossible with my Canon as I couldn't ever truly tell if I was in focus or if the viewfinder was tricking me yet again. The lens that comes with the camera performs well - I'm seeing incredibly sharp images, great color accuracy, and no real issues like chromatic aberration or anything. Auto focus is fast - it will have some issues on moving objects like dogs, but with how easy manual focus is, I have actually found myself often switching over to that.

I purchased this to repace my GX1 and gain the integrated viewfinder. The optional viewfinder was the biggest weakness of the GX1. On the plus side for the GX7, the controls, size, image quality are all excellent. But no amount of diopter adjustment could give me an acceptably clear image in the viewfinder. SInce the actual images and the view in the LCD was sharp, I initially thought I had a defective unit. After many tests, talking to Panasonic's technical folks, and digging through the detailed specs on the international site, it turns out the the LFV on this camera is significanly lower resolution than many of their other current and former cameras (e.g. G5, G6, LVF2 on the GX1) For a high end camera this is very surprising.IF you are not using the viewfinder, I'd rate the camera 5 stars, but there are more cost effective solutions (You are paying for the viewfinder). Likewise if you find a low resolution image in the LVF sufficient, then it is a fine camera. For me the disapointing viewfinder is a deal breaker in a $[$] camera.B&H's excellent return policy saved the day.

I used it for taking with me backpacking instead of the heavier Canon 60D. GX7 delivered performance and the flexibility of a DSLR.

Love its level indicator when taking landscape pictures.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I shoot with this camera as a walk around street shooter and for weddings and events.
I love the size, the easy programming allowing me flexibility in lens choice, I like the Pany lenses I have and the 4/3 system is great for adopting other lens types.
The picture quality and color rendition were a pleasant surprise and I get quite usable pictures up to ISO 3200. Probably not higher than that though.
The two things I don't like are the short battery life. For a serious day of shooting you need to take a couple of spares. Also, sometimes I get into a mode where my nose moves the focal point from the center by swiping the touch screen accidentally. Its a lovely touch screen and I have a great nose, but sometimes the two clash. i then have to take time to fumble around to change it back.
Otherwise, its great to have a gig, use a fairly small camera bag with the GX7, a zoom and several fixed lenses weighing just a few pounds and taking up so much less room. Also, it takes pretty nice video and except that there is no provision to add an external mike, the video quality itself is very good. The in camera stabilization also works pretty well, not as good from what I've seen the Olys, but a noticeable plus. Its a good camera.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black):

Only if you are making images in full daylight is this camera worth the effort due to the slow speed lens.
Compared to the Fujifilm XE2 the Lumix image is soft and lacks detail. The moveable finder and monitor are nice but do not make up for limits this camera imposes.
B&H's service was outstanding from purchase through the return.

This camera is small enough so I take it with me, and small enough to not get in the way. I love the size. I love the pictures that it takes. I believe that it takes better pictures than my Nikon D7100. I use it to take shots of waterfeatures and gardens that I design. I can carry a camera bag with it in it along with three other lenses and filters and it is no problems at all.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black):

I have nearly 50 000 photos on Flickr, and have been through a wide range of compact digicams, DSLRs and MFTs since my first Casio 2 Megapixel camera in 2000. The GX7 isn't perfect, but its close enough that I'm considering whether I can finally get rid of my beloved Pentax DSLRs. For me, who takes mostly family and travel photos, it gives me great photo quality, and a great range of lenses, in a compact and light enough format that I don't hesitate to take with me (unlike my DSLRs and bulky lenses).

Although not quite as capable in low light as my Pentax K5, the GX7 does well at ISO 1600 in my first few trips (I don't go beyond this ISO on my Pentax either), and I've found it to have a very wide range of control over its very good Program settings, when I do want to get creative.

One of the best looking MFT cameras in my view, especially in black, and it should keep my happy for a couple of years. There are a few improvements that could be made. The in body image stabilization doesn't seem as effective as my Pentax. My GX1 LCD screen delaminated, so I'm a bit concerned that unlike the G5, the tiltable LCD does not rotate to face the camera for full protection. While the touchscreen is very responsive in picture taking mode, I do find playback for review a bit slow to respond. Perhaps this latter issue can be fixed in a firmware update.

Overall, my top recommendation for those looking for an MFT ILC, and I'd generally recommend ahead of many DSLRs for those travelling, and concerned about size/weight, but still wanting top notch photo quality and a system camera.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black):

My principal work is indoor available light photos of people engaged in various activities, recalling what I did as a full-time professional many years ago. I have tried a good many digital cameras for this purpose: 4/3 and APS-C types principally, hoping to find THE one that best suits my way of doing things. The GX7 is one of two that I have settled on (the other being the new Fuji XT-1).
The GX7's advantages? It is small, unobtrusive, and has an utterly silent operating mode that can be extraordinarily helpful when working in quiet conditions such as musical performances or any circumstances under which I don't want to attract attention away from whatever's going on. The Lumix f/2.8 12-35mm and 35-100mm zoom lenses can cover just about any situation I usually encounter; if I need more speed under really poor lighting, both Panasonic and Olympus make excellent faster alternatives, and of course many other lensmounts can be adapted to 4/3. So far as print quality is concerned, I normally make 8x10s for the uses that they're put to, and I have made 8x10s from as little as 25% of the whole image area with no obvious degradation. Panasonic's new stabilization makes using Olympus and other adaptable lenses somewhat less likely to smear the final photo.
The only real problem I've run into is occasionally accidentally pressing one of the several setting buttons on the right side of the camera's back. I would suggest to Panasonic that an additional choice should be available for the control buttons: allow the user to turn the ones he doesn't need entirely off. In my case, I have set the three that I seem most often to hit accidentally to do something innocuous and easily gotten rid of, but deactivating them entirely would make life easier yet.
The GX7 works for me and the jobs that I still approach professionally, but I believe it would also be a joy for recording your trips, landscapes, and family life in general: a very responsive instrument in a small package. The VF really doesn't need to be adjustable, of course (that's just a gimmick), and you do have to remember that you're working in the 4/3 format so that making super-murals is probably pushing the limits too far. This obviously isn't an E-M1, but that one's a camera more suited to someone who wants to experiment with "creative" alternatives rather than simply document facts. For documentation, personal or professional, I would urge you to look closely at the GX7!

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Black):

Most of the film based cameras I have owned were rangefinders and Panasonic has done well to capture the look and feel of a good rangefinder camera. The build quality is excellent. The viewfinder is clear and sharp and there is no delay in switching between the viewfinder and the LCD screen. I found the LCD screen was often useless in bright outdoor light, so to me a viewfinder is a must. The photos I shot with the kit lens were excellent for the most part and between Panasonic and Olympus, there is a huge selection of lenses available for the GX7. For me, there are too many buttons and I found it easy to activate something I didn't want with my fat fingers. The camera has an excellent touch screen and could easily shed half the buttons it has. My other complaint is the WiFi that needs Panasonic's app to work. The app is quirky and not particularly user-friendly.

I've been strictly an iPhoneographer for the last few years though I was raised on SLRs from Canon and Olympus. Finally got tired of not being able to get the really low-light shots and started looking at "real" cameras. What sold me on the Lumix GX7 was the price, quality, feel-in-hand, WiFi remote and touch screen interfaces. Picked up a lens adaptor and have been having a lot of fun with my legacy glass. Only thing surprising/disappointing is that there appears to be no way to combine the self-timer and auto-bracketiing modes, though I'm working around that by remote-controlling the camera from my iPhone.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

This little guy works well for the purpose that I bought it, which is to travel with. It's light, small, quick and quiet.

The kit lens is sharp enough for showing the pictures on a TV screen, which is realistically as big a test as I'm going to put it through. Distortion, vignetting, CA are automatically corrected, of course.

My current main camera is a Nikon D7000; compared to that, the GX7 is tiny and almost weightless. The lenses are also much much smaller and lighter, for no perceptible loss of quality for my purposes. I have heard that one problem with Panasonic is their limited repair facilities in the U.S. - which is true, but doesn't seem worse than the situation with Nikon, so there's no loss there.

There isn't the plethora of menu options that there is on the Nikon, but I've found a way to do everything I want, plus several things that aren't possible with the D7000. I love the number and placement of the buttons and dials. It no time to get used to pushing the rear dial to change its function: it's like having a third dial. Very cool.

I've had the GX7 a couple of weeks, and so far it's worked great, with two complaints: in sunny situations, there is a lot of glare off the EVF; a hat and the optional eyecup correct that in most situations, but it can still be annoying; the other complaint is that the manual and the on-screen menues are difficult to understand. For instance, the menu option for saving the setup to the C1-C3 memories makes it sound like you're about to overwrite the current settings with the contents of the saved memory - when in fact, selecting that option does just the opposite.

In default mode, the colors seem a little thin - not as rich as I'm used to; I'm still fiddling with it to see if there's a way to adjust that.

Overall it's a fine little camera, it takes great pictures and I'm getting a lot of use out of it. I am definitely pleased.

I have the Nex6, Fuji XE2, OMD EM5 and am very happy to add the GX7 to my equipment.

The Auto Focus is blasting fast, the User Interface and buttons are easy to use and very intuitive. The Image Quality is slighly inferior to OMD EM5 but most people won't notice unless you pixel peep hard. The in-body stabilization works only with still pictures and not with video. However, the video quality is really amazing. Lots of controls and options.

If I had a choice I would pick GX7 over OMD EM5 due to the better video capability of the GX7. Once Olympus adds better video capability and codec then Panasonic looses it's advantage since the Olympus in-body stabilization is fantastic and works will all lenses.

The difference between Micro 4/3, APS-C and Full Frame has become very small. Yes, Full Frame will give better dynamic range and depth of field (background blur) but you can get very fast lenses for M4/3 to compensate.

Areas of improvement for the camera are the grip (could be deeper) and in-body stabilization for video (not just for still pictures).

          100% recommend this camera.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I purchased the GX-7 recently as an upgrade for my PF-1 and have been delighted with it. The 14-42 lens is OK but I mainly use the 20mm pancake lens from my PF-1. I shall probably flog the PF-1 with the 14-42 lens. There are two aspects to this camera that make it fun and satisfying to use. The artificial horizon appears in the display so that every shot can be spot on perfectly horizontal. No more guessing or multiple frames at slightly different angles. The second brilliant feature is the adjustable Electronic Viewfinder. Coupled with the Eyecup it makes shooting in bright sunlight in the snow a real possibility. And it makes taking shots from unusual angles easy with just a flick of the EVF upwards -- feels like micro Hasselblad :-) Finally, focus peaking and the magnification feature make manual focussing swift and accurate -- much easier in fact than my D600. The camera with two lenses and the bag weigh a good deal less than my D600 with a 50mm prime! I have yet to test the low light capability in dark church interiors but shots made at dusk have come out well. The 16 Megapixel image size is good for reasonably large prints.

Drawbacks are trifling but include difficulty operating with gloves in the extremely cold weather we're having -- but then does any camera work well in these circumstances? AND the worst fault is the lack of a comprehensive manual. Sorry -- pdf on a CD does not cut the mustard. And as frustrating is the fact that I've not been able to find any decent books published about the camera.

In my opinion it's hard to overestimate the usefulness of the rotating viewfinder, the accurate manual focus and the artificial horizon display.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

I'm really happy this camera, staring for the retro look, light camera body and great control options, this camera was designed to take photos easily, very convenios dial knobs to adjust all camera plus many programable function buttons, I have tested many targets and scenes and this camera have not failed me, the stabilization works great when shooting photos, I also impress with the Panasonic Image App that can control the camera from an iPad or iPhone, works on multiple modes, full control, shooting and saving locally, or saving on both camera and mobile device, camera focus is very fast, also the camera range of ISO operation and speed is amazing, able to freeze any fast scene using 1/8000th of the second, finally the burst operation up to 10 fps when using RAW, finally the EVF Viewfinder articulated able to move, can take great shots on difficult positions low close to the floor.

Comments about Lumix DMC-GX7 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera with 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens (Silver):

Another great panasonic camera. This is an upgrade for me from a DMC-LX5. I spend a lot of time guiding and doin outdoor activities in the Eastern Canadian Arctic and having a camera that is relatively compact is key. If it is too bulky I won't carry it and as a result won't get the shots. This is my reason for the LX5 purchase as well as the GX7. The GX7 clearly has the advantage of interchangeable lenses and does have some more advanced features than the point and shoot. Quality and ergonomics are of utmost importance to me and this camera fits the bill. If a want to shot full manual to get the exact landscape I want, I can spend the time. If I am in a hurry I can use autobracket fo the same landscape. From the seat of a kayak in I can use Program Ae or aperture priority if I need to get the shot off quicker. Essentially, the camera has many different options that are easily adjusted due to great ergonomics for any situation. It is also smaller than a DSLR and in my case that means a smaller pelican case on the deck of my kayak or on top of a dogsled. All the quality and versatility of a DSLR but without the bulk. There are a great range of lenses available too.
