I originally purchased the D600 and after much ado, got a refund. The D600 was magical with regard to image quality. Such wonderful potential. But the spots were a real problem.

The D610 is just as magical with regard to quality. It feels great to work with. I like the camera a lot for its potential with regard to creating beautiful landscapes and cityscapes.

I find the focus system a challenge. I am hoping that this is something I can fix with more experience/usage of the camera rather than the camera itself being the problem!

Unfortunately, after about 2k shots, I have found spots on upper left corner on images shot with sky background at f10. It's a bit of deja vu but I am hoping this does not spread like it did with the D600.

Sometimes cleaning this up in post posed real problems with the D600 images. At this price point, it's not acceptable to be forced to work on an image in post due to spots. There will certainly be times I want to shoot at high apertures and so I expect to be able to use the full range of the camera without compromise. It becomes especially important for images I want to submit somewhere.

I've included a picture with spots on upper left. This one is very easy to clean up so not a real issue. However, if spreading occurs with further usage of the camera (like it did with the D600, even after the shutter was replaced) then I am really going to regret having switched from Canon!

I look forward to testing out and working with the video aspect of the D610.

I bought the D610 last month expecting to have resolved the dust/oil issue of the previous model. I was very happy with it, but I returned it yesterday due to too many oil spots I found after 500 photographs taken. I've attached one of the shots. Hope this is helpful.

So far I'm very happy with the D610. I am a little concerned that the oil issue will appear on this camera, as I have read on various forums that it call still be an issue with the 610 as it was on the 600.

This is a great camera. It is a bit complicated but the learning curve isn't too steep. I use it mainly in the manual mode with 30 year old Nikon lenses and it takes fantastic photos. If you are like me and have an old Nikon camera with a bunch of lenses this is the camera to get!

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

Use this product like it was your last day on earth! Compared to DX, the D610 captures amazing images at 6400 ISO at 1/1000th (indoor sports) with acceptable noise, which you can later fix with Lightroom.

            * Only issue is the tightly packed focus points in the center, so you'll have to zoom out a bit to get the entire body in the shot at close range while focusing on the eyes at f2.8.

If you're using DX and "need" FF then this is a great way to get it. Your images will be instantly better. If you have a D600 better go for the D750 if you're into sports, but of course the D4s if you can afford it. The 50mm 1.8G works nicely with very little vignetting if you can't get the 24-70 2.8 right away.

The D610 resolves the debris issue of the D600 I previously owned. I have yet to see anyone with a real oil issue. Most the people, like the one review posted here, see dust and think its oil.

Buy this camera and enjoy it. I am using mine for everything from landscape, to portraits, to astrophotography.

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

I am thoroughly impressed with the Nikon D610. Having come from the Nikon D300, the D610 just blows me away with it's high ISO performance. The huge, bright viewfinder of this camera is incredible, making it really easy to compose shots.

High ISO performance is really why I wanted this camera, and it does not disappoint. This is a low-light and night photographer's pot of gold right here. I could not be more thrilled with the performance it has, low noise without over-smoothing tricks that cause loss of detail.

I was slightly worried about the tightly clustered auto-focus sensors, but for my uses I've found them to be excellent, and I've yet to run across a situation where a larger spread would make a difference.

Overall the camera is excellent, and even though the camera frame has less magnesium and more polycarbonate than I'd prefer, the camera still feels surprisingly substantial and not "plasticy" at all.

The D610 does have some features I'd rather do without, such as the scene modes, and the mode dial instead of buttons. These things make the camera feel like it's trying to cater to both beginners as well as advanced photographers.

The top shutter speed of 1/4000 second doesn't seem like a handicap unless you're trying to photograph the surface of the sun. The base ISO of 100, combined with 1/4000 top shutter speed should be more than enough for most situations.

I'm not keen on the dual SD card slots, I'd much prefer CF card slots in this body. SD cards are small and fumbly, compared to the substantial feel of CF cards. Not sure why Nikon decided to go this route on an FX body.

Shutter / mirror sound is suprisingly quiet, I expected it to be much louder than it is, and that's not even having tried out the quiet mode, as I feel it's quiet enough in regular shooting mode. Certainly quiet enough for macro and wildlife photography without fear of spooking the critters.

The neck strap supplied with this camera is downright awful. It is not nearly as nicely made as previous generation Nikon straps, so you'll definitely want to put a decent aftermarket strap on your short list for this camera.

Would have given the d610 5 stars, but the focus points could have filled out the frame a little better. They are packed in the middle to me. Not a huge deal, but its keeping me from giving 5 stars. The dial locks are overkill as well. Loving everything else though!

Going from using a crop sensor DSLR to a full frame has been a world of difference in low light situations. It didn't take but a couple of shots to notice the difference and look forward to shooting in environments that I dreaded.

I love the Nikon D610. It takes amazing photos!!! I have a Nikon D90 and this is quite a big upgrade for me. I'm loving full frame so far!

Have used this for a lot of different capturing since purchasing it. I have used it for commercial and fine art uses. It was the perfect upgrade for me as an emerging photographer and recent BFA graduate.

The NIkon D610 is a huge step up from my Nikon D200. Everything is better - focusing, color rendition, functionality and the ability to take video is a bonus. Anyone wanting to use a full frame DSLR should definitely consider the fabulous NIkon D610

Comments about Nikon D610 DSLR Camera (Body Only):

A very nice camera. 24 mega pixel are good enough without the issues of the 36 mega sensor. I might not be 100% happy with the autofocus in low light but you can't everything in one camera for $
