This camera strikes me as a quality tool. It is not a small pocket camera. It has a reassuring heft to it with excellent build quality. Still images and Video exceed my expectations. While I was at it I purchased the Carl Zeiss 62mm UV filter as well as the Tiffen Digital HT neutral density filter kit and Digital HT Circular Polarizer. These are of fantastic quality and work like a gem. The internal video mics are great for indoor use, but outdoor on a slightly windy day wind noise is present. I purchased the Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone with dead cat wind screen, all is good now for outdoor video! I recommend using the Tamrac N-45 leather padded strap, very comfy and a good upgrade for the RX-10. I would also recommend purchasing a longer USB to micro USB cable as the one provided is only about 18 inches long. Also get yourself a HDMI to micro HDMI cable to playback video on your TV. Wow, looking at pics and watching video in full 1080/60p HD is just marvelous! Very satisfied with this Sony product, not to mention all of the additional support items available from B&H!

This camera does take good photos. It is just not what I need. The focal length was not long enough and did not catch enough light for shooting on a cloudy day. I found shooting at the full focal length objects were not sharp enough. Also, the zoom is slow to respond and the bohek is OK but not to my liking.

I owe a SONY RX1R and was looking for another SONY with similar controls to make shooting between the 2 cameras easy. I think through cropping photos shot with my RX1R I can shoot everything I could with the RX10 so I am returning it.

If you shoot video you might love this camera. I thought I might keep the camera for the video but in the end I rather spend my money on an excellent lens for one of the cameras I already own.

I also tried a SONY A6000 and did not like it because the viewfinder was located on the left side, instead of being centered. I think I would recommend the A6000 with a zoom lens if you do not shoot video.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

This camera is great if you don't want to carry several lenses with you. The quality of the jpeg's is great and raw shots can be made a bit better but only when pixel peeping. The camera is heavy because it is well made. Focus is slow compared to a DSLR but fine for a point and shoot.

I have mixed opinions on this one. I love all the video features, especially the XAVC-S firmware update codec, but the zoom is slow, battery life short, and photo quality lower than other cameras.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I am a freelance ENG reporter (Electronic News Gathering) and was looking to go light in the fight...RX 10 was looking very tasty!

Ok so I have owned three (3) of these camera..The 1st one I returned because I was so disappointed in the Picture IQ, The Video and usability for me was great especially this price point. (In my work cameras usually on live about 6-9 months no matter what the cost or make).

While on a job in the sandbox I met a NG photographer using sony equipment who turned me on to Capture One software, I recooked the raw photos and...Shazam ooh so much better...very usable images, what a difference the software makes... don't get me wrong, I used LR for years but with the RX10 I get way better IQ from the raw and jpeg files.

I bought the 2nd camera 30 minutes after I printed the recooked images...the third came after #2 was destroyed on the job. (thanks B&H for fast -worldwide-delivery service and having stock ready to go)

Things to remember about all these reviews; what do YOU need and expect from your camera thats important, not what others do.

Great travel camera! Took it to Alaska and got some amazing shots, such as the attached. A very versatile camera, and much lighter than a DSLR. The lens is superb, the sensor quite good. Weaknesses: Short battery life. Lens flares when shooting into sun. High ISO is quite noisy. If these are concerning, get a DSLR and a porter.

...garbage, trash, you pick your expletive. Trying to set it up and getting it to work amounts to a useless waste of time and smartphone battery life. The codes alone are so OCD that it will take forever just to establish the connection. And then there's the actual transmitting. Simply imbecile, as it doesn't really allow you to simply transmit an image to your smartphone. Rather, you need to download this goofy Sony app, then upload images and manipulate them there. Ended up not using it at all. What I need is the ability to beam an image file to my iPhone, so that I can share it from there. Is that too much to ask?

I am a semipro photographer. I shoot with a Canon 7D and 5DII. I use only "L" glass. My shoulders started to ache,so I started looking for a walk around alternative. this fit the bill in most cases. I do a lot of low light shooting in jazz clubs. with a flash it is almost comparable with my 7D. Without,it leaves something to be desired at 3200. Both my 7D and 5D II are great at 6400. With a smaler sensor, this is to be expected. When I'm not doing work for money, this is what I will walk with.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I bought this for travel, not wanting to lug my heavy Nikon DX system aboard planes, trains and boats. I've only used it two weeks, and we have a big trip to Alaska coming up, so this review is tentative. But so far in casual use I find it quite admirable. The IQ seems slightly superior to the Sony RX100 I have, and of course the zoom reaches twice as far. Handling was easy to learn, particularly coming from the RX100. I use Auto mode frequently, but like the ability to use Aperture, Shutter and Manual modes on occasion, as well as some scenes and panoramas. Auto focusing is slower than the RX100 but manual focusing using focus peaking is brilliant--good news for old eyes! I can now get macro shots in focus. I also like the zebra feature for showing which areas are overexposed, then using the exposure compensation knob to, well, compensate. The electronic viewfinder is very useful, even though the colors are not true. The RX10 is half the weight of my Nikon D300, and I can carry it on a hike without putting a groove in my shoulder. All in all, I have enjoyed using this camera so far. Alaska will be the acid test.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

Trading in my trusted Nikon DSLR kits for something more practical, I was about to purchase the Panasonic Lumix DMC Fz1000, but when I handled it in the B&H store I was disappointed by the light, cheap, plasticky feel. It was a matter of seconds; I just picked it up handled it, wondered if this was a dummy unit, and put it back down. Looked great on paper but not in real life. After that, once I started researching the various sensor sizes with their effective full-frame-equivalent apertures (from a DoF perspective) it was only a matter of time until I would come across the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10.

Yes, it's expensive, but with the new version II coming out (which has video capabilities way beyond my needs, let alone the equipment's capability to actually play those video formats), B&H lowered the price to $900, at which point I feel it's worth every penny.

I bought this camera essentially for two things, the lens and the sensor. Needless to say, a Zeiss 24-200 at f/2.8 throughout the range is top of the hill. Even if others go beyond 200mm, I'd rather settle for that zoom length and use the extra image quality to crop later if I need to zoom later. And the sensor size, while there are larger ones in the sub-full-frame category, is sufficient to achieve some remarkable DoF separation, particularly at the larger zoom end. (In fact, at focal lengths > 105mm, the effective aperture of the Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 beats that of my Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX lens, which was the heart of the kit I traded in.

Okay, so the positives are straight forward, now to the negatives. After a few weeks of use, I see three:

                  1. I don't like the fly-by-wire zoom, neither this one nor the one of any other camera. It doesn't provide enough responsiveness (speed and accuracy) and it just wastes battery. I'd rather have a true manual focus ring on the lens. Granted, there isn't enough room on the lens for that, but if I had to make trade-offs, I'd rather lose the aperture ring. Yes. I know that manual ring, with the click stops and all, combined with the exposure compensation dial on the top, give the camera an air of total manual control, but honestly, it only really matters in aperture-priority shooting. So my preference would be to have two rings on the lens, one for zooming and one for focusing, and relegating the aperture selection to a dial on the back.

                  2. Charging the battery through the camera is just not practical. Why not include a charger unit, so that I can charge batteries while using the camera, rather than tie up the camera while charging? With this set-up, one has to buy an extra charger (in addition to extra batteries).

                  3. The user manual is pretty useless, essentially not more than a glorified table of contents. It tells you what is what, but not how things work. After some on-line searching I found http://docs.esupport.sony.com/dvimag/DSCRX10_guide/en/index.html, but this really should be included.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I've been a long-time user of a well-known DSLR camera. I'm incredibly impressed with the equally high quality of the RX10 images and the versatility of the camera without having to haul around 20 pounds of additional glass. The RX10 provides macro, wide angle, and telefoto in one compact Zeiss lens. The constant f/2.8 wide aperature provides great flexibility for low light conditions, even at 210mm equivalents. As yet another great bonus, the videos are as good or better than my HD camcorder, and quickly taken at the touch of a well-placed button. This one camera has eliminated the need for 90% of my shooting conditions to carry two extra lenses and a camcorder, while still getting DSLR and HD quality images.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I bought this because I was looking for something between the noisy 1/2.3 sensors of the megazooms and lugging my D800s with lens arround all day. Like my other Sony, (DSC HX-300) it takes really nice shots with a bright, fast lens. The Sony controls and operations take some getting used to, especially if you're accustomed to Nikon or Canon, but once you master them it's a breeze. The only negative is the limitation of a 200mm zoom, but as long as you are aware of that going in, it's not a major impediment. Really nice, clean pictures.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

I have used many cameras in my life. The Sony RX10 is a keeper. The beautiful image quality of the Zeiss lens, the fast processing, the comprehensive user settings and the physical controls make this camera a standout, in many ways reminiscent of the Sony R1.

For family & travel photography. Replaces DSLR as due to handicap can only use right hand. This camera is easy to control with right hand. Have other similar cameras but all lack a viewfinder which I prefer in sunlight.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera:

It is a solid camera and XAVC-S is a good codec. I really wanted this to be a dslr replacement, but it has a few flaws that I could not overcome. The compact camera form factor is fine and it is a sturdy build all around, except for the rear LCD. That absurdly flimsy hinged contraption is the first problem. The motorized zoom is great, and the manual focus option is as well, but it really needs a manual zoom ring/mode. Finally, I was aware the sensor size and approximate crop factor, but from a DOF standpoint is much worse than it seems. It helps to have a constant aperture through the zoom range for sure, but it is at best 5.6 in terms of DOF.
