This is an outstanding entry from Sigma's Art Lens series. I purchased the lens after reading a number of reviews and comparing its features with the competing (and more expensive) Nikon 24-120 f4 lens. Although I have just used the lens a bit, I have been quite pleased with the results. The lens is solid and shows outstanding craftsmanship. Images are extremely sharp, and with great color rendition. Autofocus is fast and accurate (I tested autofocus accuracy under very stringent conditions). Bokeh is quite good for a lens of this type. Optical stabilization is useful (though I haven't tested this feature extensively), since the lens is not a 2.8. The main drawbacks are the weight of the lens and the unusual filter size, but if you're willing (like me) to put up with those inconveniences, you won't be disappointed with the results.N.B. The attached images are out-of-camera JPEGs except for cropping and resizing of the second shot. Both 105 mm @ f8 taken with a Nikon 7100.

For the price, Canon 24-105mm L IS has better build quality with magnesium alloy barrel, deadly reliable, sharper at 105mm and holds the value well. The new price for 24-105mm L IS is only about $ come as KIT lens compared to this one for $. No reason to get the CANON instead of Sigma who has unknown reliability and autofocus accuracy in the future.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

This lens is sharp. It does have it's issues like all zoom lenses do but in reality it handles them better than most. I looked at all of the lenses in this category as well as those in the 24-70mm range. I narrowed the group down to the Sigma 24-105 and the Nikon 24-120, and though I have beeb a lifelong Nikon user the bottom line was that the Sigma out preformed the the Nikon glass. I would buy this lens again. The Sigma build quality is first rate. The lens is heavy but that just keeps me in shape with all the other glass in my backpack. I also own the Sigma 12-24mm f/4 as well.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I received this lens today and have never been more impressed by any brand of lens. Everyone is reporting how sharp this lens is, and it is. I expected that, but the OS is incredible. I can hand hold my D610 with this lens at 105mm and shutter at 1/15 second and get sharp shots time after time. At 70 years my steadiness is not what it once was; I am really enjoying the OS.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

It seems that I have been waiting for a Nikon version of this lens since my brief foray into Canon World a few years ago, where I really enjoyed using the Canon version of this focal length range. This Sigma version is better than the Canon and considerably better than the closest Nikon lens, the 24-120 f4. Indeed, it is heavy and bulky, but the payoff of excellent IQ and precision operation is, for me, well worth the trade-off. I was fortunate enough to have the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 to compare this lens to and at the same focal lengths and f-stops (f4, -f8), this lens equalled or surpassed (consistently better at f4)the Nikon and with the addition of the OS feature and the additional range, for my use this lens clearly is a better option than the beloved Nikon (I sold mine used for $ more than the cost of the new Sig). The Nikon 24-70 weighing in at about the same as the Sigma, is no doubt an excellent optic, but at but at twice the cost new, for many, I think the Sigma is a worthy competitor. The testing of some reviews, point out a softness at the margins of this lens' images, but in my real world shooting experience I am not seeing anything to be concerned about.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I've owned this lens for about 4 months now, and I must say, I LOVE this thing. If you're a Canon user, this lens is miles ahead of the aging Canon 24-105. And if you're a Nikon user like myself, you'll find it better than the 24-120, and cheaper as well. The construction is top notch (if not slightly heavy, but hey I'm willing to accept that for the quality), the images are superb and crisp, and the OS is wonderful. I've used this for a couple family photo shoots and they have turned out GREAT. Do yourself a favor and save some money over a 24-70 f/2.8 if you really don't need it. The extra stop loss of light is more than made up for by the Optical Stabilization, and the extra 35mm on the long end is very helpful when using this lens as a day to day walk around lens. I'd say the only drawbacks, as I mentioned above, are that the lens is definitely on the heavy side, but nothing I can't handle with a BlackRapid strap on my shoulder all day long. I did notice a slight tendency for lens creep when walking around with it all day hanging off my BlackRapid, but this honestly may have been more of a problem with my leg hitting the lens hood and slowly causing the lens to extend. It's going to stay put when you're shooting, definitely. The only other down is a slight degradation of image quality at 105mm, but this is negligible. I am quite picky when it comes to lenses, but I have little bad to say about this new Art line of Sigma's so far. The 24-105 lives on my camera about 80% of the time. If I were you, I'd pick one of these up ASAP!

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I've borrowed my friend's 24-120mm f/4 VR and played with it. The images were fine-center with softer-corners, very usual at this class lenses. BUT the distortion is repulsive. By comparing with this Sigma's price, Nikon is not quite worthy.Look closely:I don't really need extra 15mm zoom from the Nikon, on the other hand, Sigma 24-105mm f/4 OS HSM saves me $ ; but I get same optical stabilizer, excellent sharp from center and the corners are fine sharpness. At least I get much better distortion compare with Nikon's. The HSM is fast and very quiet; AF is accuracy as Nikon's. The solid build matt-black lens body looks good to me.I don't mind its weight closed to Nikon 24-70 f/2.8, it has quite good balance on my D610 w/ battery grip.I have to give this Sigma A-series lens 5 stars due to the quality worthy the price!Highly recommended to have a 82mm UV protector filter on the lens all the time.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I have just purchased this zoom to replace my aging 18-70mm I got as a part of the D70 toolkit. So far I am impressed by the quality of the zoom and it's very sharp. Note that I am using the zoom on a DX camera (D7000) so some of the issues noted in the reviews (light fall off, CA and softness on the edges) are not an issue at (least so far.) The main downside is that I lost wide angle capability but that was a trade off I was willing to make.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Below are some likes and dislikes, however, this is the third lens in recent years that when shooting I thought "wow" and in LR I thought "OMG !" The other two are the Nikon 70-200 VRII and Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art. Images are sharp, colors are spot on, fantastic contrast, fast AF, excellent focal range on FF, great MFD, OS is superb. Construction, materials, zoom and focus rings are smooth and sexy. Paired with the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art ( or future 50mm f1.4 ) and you got some powerful glass in this standard zoom genre.I question the amount of CA at wider apertures, although easily correctable surprised me even a stop or two down. The 82mm filter size means a sizeable reinvestment for filters. The bokeh seemed a bit nervous at wider angles but I think that is more typical of being at a wider angle and not the lens itself. At F4 and 85mm -105mm results were just fine.I can't give 5 stars because of the CA and bokeh, but that is pale in comparison to the fast, sharp, contrasty images that you will get. Not a perfect lens but very close.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Wicked-fast focusing, great OS, creamy bokeh, all in a very substantial package with nicely damped zoom and focus rings. I ordered it for an event, and it arrived a day late due to weather (and my failure to pay extra for faster shipping), but it's a very useful lens for that kind of work. I use it on a Nikon D600 and (less often) on a D300s.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

I bought this lens for my D700. It is by far the sharpest lens I own, and most of my glass is Nikon. I wish I was in need of more glass because I would get more Sigma Art lenses. Great contrast, color and bokeh. It's a heavier than I expected but does ok on the D700 body. If your in need of something in this focal range don't hesitate.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Sigma says the "A" medallion on this lens denotes it as being in the new "ART" series. I could argue that it also could stand for "Awesome".
Cosmetically the lens exhibits a very modern appearance, similar to the recent Zeiss lenses.
Optically it is excellent, a great match to my Nikon D800. The detail in the pictures at 100x is the best of any of my lenses. The focus was dead on right out of the box. The zooming ring has a slight resistance but is extremely smooth, not a hint of chatter. The wait was long for the Nikon release of this lens but definitely worth it.

Comments about Sigma 24-105mm F/4 DG OS HSM Lens for Nikon DSLR Cameras:

Excellent image quality across the zoom range. I compared test images shot with quality zooms and primes like the Nikon 70-200 f/4, 85 f/1.8d and 50 f/1.8g and the Sigma has very similar IQ and no significant weaknesses. I find the images quite good shot wide open to the corners on an FX sensor. The weight and size of this lens may deter some photographers, it is a handful. Focus and zoom rings move smoothly though they have more resistance than most lenses I've used. The output looks consistently very good, the optical stabilizer is excellent, the focus is fast and accurate, and the build quality is top notch. When i absolutely need a fast aperture lens I'll have to go back to a prime but for the other 90% of the time I'll have no regrets using this lens.
