As compared with the previous on camera light we purchased from b&h, this is a much better buy. mainly because of the battery type used. the aa battery set up is a lot more logical from this type of light than the Sony NP series batteries. They are enclosed and much less weight on top of an already heavy filming apparatus. The brightness of the light as works just as good if not better than the previous light and its smaller size ,aces it a win win situation as compared with before. I wouldn't recommend anyone to buy an on camera light that only allows the Sony series big bulky batteries. the prongs that the battery plugs into are much too fragile. As well with the aa batteries you can just have an extra set with you instead of waiting for the Sony battery to charge. So far so good!

I am not an expert by any means on quality of light, so I am going to stick to the more technical and practical concerns. This light does not come with batteries or an AC adapter, so you are on your own to power it. it requires eight AA batteries or a 12vdc input, but this input is not marked with polarity and I am unsure that it has a diode on the dimming circuitry, so I am nervous that if I do use this jack I will fry the dimmer board. The plastic on the mount is very cheap and annoying to get in place, but is very sturdy once it is set and I had no worries of it moving or falling during use.Applications of this light are fairly limited. I tried mounting it on the hotshoe of my camera and taking video, and quickly found that the narrow spread of the light combined with the consumer 8 bit color depth of my camera produced a series of circular gradient lines on whatever I was filming, so I would recommend a higher quality, wider angle light for this purpose. With all of those complaints aside, I am happy with my purchase of this light. I bought it for $ on sale with the intention of having an addition light in my toolkit. I have found that it makes a good fill light, as the dual color fades give great control as to what this lamp is throwing on the subject, and It also works well as a hair light due to its fairly directional nature. At this price point I expected a jack-of-some light, and that is exactly what I got.

This light works well as a basic on-camera light. I do wish that a power supply would have come with it as 8x AA batteries is a lot. I do really like that it is bi-color. Overall, very happy.

I'm more photo stills oriented, but bought thru B&H Deal Zone for reasonable price. Philosophy is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it. Color temp tests is good and accurate. Compact form using AA batteries help in toting it everywhere with great convenience. Also accepts a/c adapter plug for small studio set-ups. Very nice beginners light.

Comments about Bescor FP-180 Bi-Color Dimmable On-Camera Light:

My first impressions after getting the Bescor FP-180 out of the box was that it was cheaply made. I feel that I need to be extra careful when I handle and use this light. Also find that it takes me more time to mount the light. Poor design on the foot. When shooting an event and the lights are low, I also find that I fumble around trying to turn this light on or adjusting the light intensity. On the positive side it does seem to have some decent output of light for a small compact unit. It does take 8 AA batteries to operate which make the light a little heavy but, I like the idea of using AA instead of the Sony type battery.I purchased the light during a B&H daily deal for $ so, although the construction could be better, not bad for the price.

Comments about Bescor FP-180 Bi-Color Dimmable On-Camera Light:

I'm a videographer and this light works awesome for an "on-camera" light or even for placing the light on a tripod to get some extra key light for outside or inside shots (which I've mainly used it for). I'm very happy with it's brightness and adjustable color temps. I'm not exactly sure how long the battery life is yet but the AA's seem to keep it running for a long time. A great little portable light!

I use this light when I'm handholding to shoot b-roll. It has great light and fills the medium shots and close ups nicely. The only thing that bothers me (thus only 4 stars) is the attachment screw. It is short and falls out. I'm going to keep it attached to the camera so i don't lose it - but then I run the risk of switching to another one of my cameras only to find I don't have the screws. But it feels solid. It does take 8 AA batteries so be ready!

I use this light to light behind the subject or anywhere in the background of the framed shot to change the look of the shot. I also add color gels to it enhancing the look even more.

Will go through batteries quickly when used a lot, recommend finding a power source for indoor shooting.

I bought two of these. You can mount it on your camera's hot shoe. However, the illumination can not cover a 40mm full frame lens evenly, even at 3 ft. distance to the object.

I bought this for $ during a promotional sale. For the price, it is very decent for news/documentary run-&-gun style shoots. The filters actually give nice diffusion and it's nice to have variable temperature colors. The build is plasticky, but the biggest drawback is that it requires 8 AA batteries..which means you need to pack a ton of batteries if you need spares for a long shoot. The cold shoe is also very cumbersome. Best use is if you need to travel light and work fast.

Comments about Bescor FP-180 Bi-Color Dimmable On-Camera Light:

I use this light with a Sony A6000 with a tamron 18 to 200 MM Lens for indoor portraits with no other lights...not a studio setting...the color and strength adjustment took some experimentation. In the end had great results. Bit of a battery hog.
