One must understand the purpose of this lens. It is designed to transform a PEN or OM-D camera into a point and shoot. Combined with the additional auto lens cap, the lens powers from the closed compact state to the extended ready state with the auto lens cap opening for quick shooting when the camera is powered on. In other words, you now have a point and shoot with with supurb image quality. The zoom is powered as well just like a point and shoot zoom and is operated by the regular zoom ring.

So, is this the sharpest lens in the Olympus stable? No. Is this the most compact 3x zoom in the Olympus stable? Yes! So you now have a pocketable camera with a zoom, quite good performance, and that is ready in an instant. Not the best lens for a wedding or any other time your planing to take photos, but outstanding for carrying around when you weren't expecting to take photos. And it is not any worse than other kit lenses.

If your pixel peeping, you will not find this lens outstanding. If your looking for a lens to put in your pocketbook or pocket that is ready in an instant, then this is the brilliant design that was made just for you!

I bought this lens for EM10. It is small and looks good. But after shot one week, I found the optical performance does not satisfy me. Also, while you zoom it, not like regular zoom lens, you always feel it is pulled back by spring, very difficult to hit the position you want.

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

This lens is very convenient and compact, with a decent but not great image quality. The focus and zoom rings are small but comfortable. The autofocus is fast and (electronic) manual focus works reasonably well. Makes a very tiny package with the Olympus E-M10. Unfortunately, like all current pancake zooms, compactness must be traded for image quality.

I have used this lens for landscape as well as for instructional images to show lighting set up and panorama images of the mountain vists with great results. The compact size is a plus, as well as the light weight. It fits convienently in my side pocket and goes unnoticed.

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Silver):

This is my new regular lens to use. Before I bought this lens, I had M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm F3.5 - 5.6 (discontinued lens.) Anyway I like this new lens, because it is thin, light weight compare to the old lens. As a zoom lens, it gives pretty good results. Of course, if you care about image quality, you should buy prime lens. It is great especially when I go traveling.

Comments about M.Zuiko Digital ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ Lens (Black):

This has become my default lens that is always left on the E-P5 paired with the auto lens cap. It is an extremely small lens that allows me to carry the camera with lens attached in the smallest camera bag possible and snap photos quickly. My main subjects of photography are reptiles and amphibians and I need a zoom lens because depending on the species (venomous or non-venomous in particular) I will be different distances away. This lens also works excellent for landscape photographs. Carrying numerous prime lenses (17mm, 25mm, etc) is not something I have any interest in doing and there is no need when this lens works so well and does the job of two or three of the prime lenses alone. Photos come out excellent, sharp, in focus, and in most cases better than handheld photos I take with the 60mm f/2.8 macro lens. I feel as if many people have missed the point of Micro 4/3-to carry around smaller gear. This lens is for those of us who want a small, practical lens and the ability to carry around the camera without having to lug around a purse full of prime lenses.

When rating this lens, you have to compare it to the kit lens. IMO, it's at least comparable. Because of the size, I think that it's the better choice. It is very sharp, albeit somewhat slow, but the size makes it a great choice for travel photographers. I was actually somewhat amazed at the IQ, but it will definitely be in my bag when I travel.

I like this little lens on my EM-5 when I want a very small package for travel as opposed to a point and shoot. Fits into a very slim bag for on and off the plane when you take the lens off. Another good use is for when you have your tele or long prime and want a standard lens just in case that you put in your pocket.
