You get more than what you pay for. The Sony Alpha a6000 is simply an awesome camera. When you compare it to other cameras both DSLR and Mirrorless in its class, this camera outshines them all. Stills are sharp and the colors are good. Video is detailed and the noise, like on most all Sony sensors, looks more like grain than digital noise (ala Canon).

Video on the a6000 is detailed enough to cut in with the a7s, a7RII, NXCAM, XDCAM, etc. Comparing this camera to other cameras in its class, low light performance is amazing. Note that I said in its class! Of course it doesn't compare to full frame cameras or the a7s or a7RII, but compared to other APSC cameras, especially against Canon APSC such as the 70D, the a6000 is far superior. For best results in low light, the maximum usable ISO is 3200. The maximum clean ISO is 2000. However you can get clean results at 3200 and higher if you know what you're doing and expose for zones.

Let me address some of the Cons listed above:

Short battery life (56)
- I use only Sony brand batteries and I get a full day of video and 2-3 days of photos when shooting "casually". I tested the Watson NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack (7.4V, 1000mAh) and although just 20 mAh less than the Sony, it only lasted a third of the time. So buy quality batteries and you'll get longer life.

Complicated controls (11)
- Not sure why people say this. The controls are well laid out and the menus are set up pretty much like any other camera. But there are MORE controls because there are tons more features so maybe that's the case.

Poor in low light (7)
- Not at all. If you are a good photographer or skilled videographer, you know the limitations of camera sensors in this class and shoot accordingly. The a6000 does not perform bad in low light compared to other cameras in its class. It does not perform as well as full frame or more professional use cameras, but for its class it performs exceedingly well in low light.

Lag / shutter delay (6)
- Not sure what people mean by this. I haven't had any issues with lag or delay. In fact, the a6000 has the most responsive shutter that I've ever shot with and that's compared to cameras in and out of its class.

So what does this camera have that most cameras in its class do not? I won't discuss them all, but just suffice it to say that everything in this list is either non-existent in the competitor offerings (e.g. Canon APSC) and/or the feature is simply better.

Focus Peaking
Zebras
EVF
4:2:2 Clean HDMI out
XAVC-S Video codec at 50mbs (Version 2.0)
NFC
Wireless
App store
etc.

Take the reviews here (including mine) with a grain of salt. How well a camera performs is very subjective. What works great for a pro, can be "too complicated" for a novice. What makes it great for a novice usually makes it frustrating for a pro. Know your gear and remember to compare cameras within their class. If you're trying to decide between the a6000 and a Canon APSC, get this one. If you're trying to decide between the a6000 and an a7SII or a7RII, then get the more advanced one if you have the money.

Like many things in life, what is important is in the details. Sony has once again produced a great product. The Alpha a6000 produces crisp edges to main focal points. The grab focus feature allows you keep the focus on specific moving objects or persons while filming. However, the quality of built in mic is easily superseded by most built in mics on smart phones. When filming, you get two sound recordings. First is the flat sharp echo tone of the what you are recording, then that is overlapped with the sound of the internal moving parts of the camera. I am guessing it is the motor that adjusts the auto focus. Yes you could put the camera to manual focus, but if your subject is moving, that will complicate things. Also, you can not plug in a standard mic to the camera. There is no port for that. You have to record on a separate system all together. Even if you want to play around with amateur filming, you will have to remove the audio. The recorded sound is that bad. I am sure engineers at Sony already knew this. What is so sad is that someone at Sony decided to almost make the sound feature obsolete. Too bad. Sony has a great name and blunders like this move people in another direction.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I needed a new camera to replace my Canon S3IS. Although I loved the Canon's "super zoom," the pictures were always soft. I purchased this camera with the Sigma 30mm f/2.8 lens and all I can say is, "wow!" The sharpness, detail, and color is incredible. I love all of the manual features available, but even the full auto modes are really quite good. This is a fabulous camera if image quality is paramount, but you don't want to spend a fortune.

    Brilliant mid-range camera

    By TCLnj

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

The a6000 bridges the gap between high-end point-and-shoot and mid-range DSLRs perfectly. In terms of low-light performance, it handily beats a but one or two in either of those categories. And at the current price, now that the a6300 is out, it is an absolute steal of a deal. Loving it, especially combined with the SEL50F18 prime lens!

A great all around camera for the enthusiast. It's light, small and easy to carry. Picture quality is super. This is my second a6000. I thought about the a6300 but had a hard time justifying the additional cost since I don't shoot video.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

Myself: Photography is a hobby and by no means a professional photographer but love to capture life as much as possible.

Summary: Great camera for travel and all purpose photography. I have a Canon 70D and a few lenses. Wanted to a small form factor during my short trips.

Bought a 35 mm lens with the camera instead of the stock lens options being sold at costco and other stores. 35 mm gives me a good wide angle view you can use it for portraits as well but you will have to take good care of the distance between the subject and your cam. Lens came with a hood.

        Pros:
        1. Nice form factor
        2. Easy to hold
        3. Good manual options
        4. Swivel screen
        5. Good picture quality

        Cons:
        1. Not fast for sports photography or taking pictures of moving kids
        2. Menu options will take time getting used to if you havent used a sony before
        3. No touch screen LCD

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Silver):

I've used the camera for travel, art, portraiture and product photography.

It is so compact and light weight for a camera with so many features.

I wish I could use longer lenses for capturing panoramas that are automatically stitched with this camera. The auto-stitch feature is really quite good but wide angle lenses will still create some distortion. If I don't move at a consistent speed, too slow or too fast, it won't capture the pano. A bit picky there. Oftentimes I find myself going to individual captures and stitching in PS.

While the image quality is very nice and the auto focus really fast, I find that in video mode it doesn't want to track my subjects sufficiently.

Lens selections have been quite limited until recently. The Sony lenses fall short of the quality I desire but they are quite reasonable. The Zeiss lenses are beautiful but quite pricey. Pay for what you get.

While doing some night photography recently I found I could see absolutely nothing through the viewfinder or LCD other than noise. Processing of those images was very slow, almost as long as the exposures.

The camera consumes batteries like a teenager consumes PB&J sandwiches. I used to eat 3 after a full dinner. So buy plenty of backup batteries unless you have access to power for charging.

Charging: I suggest you buy the Watson battery charger. The charger that came with my camera required I plug the camera into the charger. Hard to photograph that way.

One advantage to the camera is that there are many videos online about the camera, it's setup and usage.

Comments about Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera Body (Black):

I'm a beginner photographer and bought this camera to learn photography and for travel. It's lightweight and functional. My only complaint, like others have stated, is the short battery life. To combat that, I bought an extra Sony battery and wall charger.

I also bought the Sony 35mm f/1.8 as the main lens.

I'm a new photographer with a little experience borrowing a Nikon D3000 and Cannon Rebel t4. I've always loved the quality of these dslrs but hated how clunky they are. The mirrorless compactness of the a6000 is so so convenient. I am actually taking it along with me on my day to day. It doesn't feel like such a commitment to carry it along. And I have the best photos on instagram now!
I also use it for my art business, documenting my fine art to transfer to prints. It's not as crisp as scanning but it works for smaller prints.

With this price tag (body only) and a free accessory kit (extra battery + 32gb fast memory card) this was a no-brainer for a e-mount lens owner. Battle between m43 Olympus M10 mkII was short lived even thou a6000 is few years older. Best friends with Sony 50mm f/1.8 OSS (cheap and effective). Easy controls for manual shooting and the updated Smart Remote app allows you to leave the camera alone and control the aperture, shutter speed, ISO and exp. comp. settings through your smartphone. Remember to change the picture format to RAW(If applicable) from the in-camera app. Can't change from smartphone and default is jpeg. No touch screen really haven't been an issue (touch focus works through smartphone) but wouldn't mind if it had.

Bought this for macro use and as a general walk around camera as well.

It is much lighter than my EOS 60D and finally I am free of the 100+ year old mirror.

Powerful, yet compact. Bought it with a Sony 50mm f1.8 prime lens. Couldn't happier with the price.

I've had the camera for a week now, traded in all my DSLR equipment to go Mirrorless. The size and wifi capability make it easy to take with me on the go and upload photos to my iPhone. Very happy with the purchase so far.
