Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

I use this on a N1 V2 and like the versatility it provides along with the 10-100mm 1 Nikkor lens I have. With these two lenses I rarely need anything else. I am waiting on the tripod attachment which I am sure will help me steady this lens.

Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

This lens is lovely to hand hold and shoot at the full focal length if you have something to steady yourself. It takes amazingly sharp photos handheld on still objects. I used a tripod and it was easy to focus in on a tree branch and capture a bird in a split second when the sun was out. On a cloudy day I found that the camera focused immediately in on the focal length but if i changed it it hunted so I used manual focus. For me it worked best when I manually focused i.e. on the branch and then waited for the bird to land and then automatically focused. I am petite and have small hands. That is why I purchased the V1 camera. I used to shoot a 4x5 so IQ is very important to me. I used the V1 and the kit lenses:10-30mm and 30-110mm. I bought this lens to improve IQ and was hoping that it was small enough to travel with instead of using the 30-110. After a week of testing it indoors and outside, I like the lens. The drawbacks for me are it is bigger and heavier than i would like and it only works well, extremely well in sunlight. It is a long lens and needs to collect a lot of light. I am not one to push the ISO more than 800 and prefer to shoot lower than ISO 400. Where I live November is very cloudy and this lens did not perform to my expectations in the low light. My advice is to decide what you want to use this lens for before purchasing it. I read reviews and saw great results for macro photography and for action such as birds in flight with this lens. The reviewers used a lot of PP to eliminate noise at higher ISO's. I use LR and PS and was able to eliminate all background noise at ISO 800 and retain most of the image sharpness. I bought this lens to complement my SONY RX1R. I needed more reach and the V1 is lighting fast in shooting action. As a carry everywhere I do not think that this lens will work for me as well as the other Nikon V1 lenses but the IQ and reach is much much better.Attached image shot at 1/1000 f5.6 300mm ISO 800 PP in LR and cropped (100% enlargement)

Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

This is a pretty great lens for a telephoto shooter who always wanted more. I just received it, but my initial impressions are that is as sharp as other Nikon 1 lenses on my Nikon 1 V2. The VR is really good - I've done handheld shots at 300mm (810mm equivalent)and 1/30 that show no noticeable signs of camera motion. My biggest complaints are:(1) the optional tripod mount is not available, (2) the unlock mechanism is very stiff (zooming is OK) and (3) the 62mm filter size. Regarding (3), I guess I'm going to have to buy and carry yet another polarizing filter.

Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

After just receiving this lens, I've done limited comparisons with it versus a Nikkor AF-S 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 mounted on a Nikon 1 V3 with the FT1 adaptor. It is possible to get acceptable results while hand holding this lens, which I couldn't do with the Nikkor-FT1 combination. In it's locked, short configuration, this lens is about 2/3 the length of the Nikkor. The only con I have experienced so far is that the lens had difficulty finding focus on close subjects. Nevertheless, it gets there, while I often had to focus the Nikkor manually.

Best lens I have ever used. Now paired with N1 V3. Other zooms I have owned were often slow focusing, this one snaps right into focus.

Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

I've been waiting for one of these since they were released. All I can say is that the product meets, or exceeds, my every expectation!

This lens is utterly amazing, especially for the weight, but build quality does not seem to have been sacrificed for weight.

I am fortunate to have 8 of Nikons CX lenses. They are all good but some, such as the 32mm and this one, are absolutely outstanding.

      I unreservedly recommend this lens!

(I am primarily an FX shooter who is looking to reduce kit weight. I have D800E and D810 with 13 Nikon FX lenses and a bunch of other Nikon accessories.)

Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

I use the lens for a variety of photos, e.g. wild flowers, animals, and people, using my Nikon 1 AW1. A button on the lens barrel keeps the lens from moving while in use. The lens is a little stiff when first used, but is getting easier to use with time.

My dislikes are problems with the camera. There is no viewfinder only a monitor, which is virtually useless in the sun. It is difficult to focus using the monitor and hinders use of the camera. Very aggravating!

This is the lens I have been waiting for. It is the perfect compliment to my Nikon 1 V1. I love this camera and the lenses for travel and general about town shooting because of their compact size and light weight.

This lens is razor sharp at any focal lengths and wide open. Stopping it down by 1 f/stop does not improve on it, because it is impossible to get it any sharper.
        Extremely pleased with this lens.

Comments about Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens:

Nikon 1 camera users will notice the physical aspects of this lens before anything else. It tops the 1 Nikkor lens list for weight at 19.4oz (550g) and fully extended with lens hood, measures 10 inches (25.5cm).
Its use without tripod definitely requires two hands, especially when coupled to a V3 back without the optional grip. With tripod I recommend the optional tripod mount (TR-N100).
Well worth the wait, and weight, however. My preliminary testing justified its relatively high cost. I repeatedly obtained perfectly sharp results, relatively free of flare when I shot directly into a setting sun, for example.
What I enjoyed most was the 'telephoto bokeh' that I obtained at the fully zoomed end of the lens's range (300mm, f/5.6). I have submitted two sample images. I am fully satisfied with this latest addition to the N1 system.
