This is an excellent camera that is very easy to use. The Sony menus are clear and very intuitive. Photos and AVCHD videos are great. The camera is a bit heavy but its made of high quality aluminum and not some cheap plastic. I love the built in EVF it works great in bright sunshine when the LCD is difficult to see. The zoom is a little short, i would have preferred a 10X zoom. The camera is expensive but its worth it. The large sensor makes all the difference in photo quality. I have a micro HDMI cable and i view all my photos and videos directly on my 50" HDTV and the quality is fantastic.

I've been a photographer since 1972; I own many cameras (some of them SONY) and bought the RX-100 in June 2013. For no reason I am aware of, one day in February 2014 I experienced the first major malfunction requiring factory warranty service, replacing the "Mounted C.Board CD-847(S)", whatever that is. A brief search on the internet shows I'm not alone as others have had the same repair. In September 2014 the exact same malfunction has occurred again. I treat my equipment with great care and typically have cameras for decades. This is not a cheap toy and with the timing of the same malfunction I'm now out of the one year warranty period. This is a VERY expensive camera when you consider the cost of maintenance and the downtime experienced while the camera will be out for repair. So, do I trash it or spend several hundred dollars more to repair it, and how long would that repair last? Small camera, great photos - it was a great idea, too bad SONY couldn't produce a camera you can rely on. If you are considering getting this camera, consider how you might feel each time you reach for your camera to take that once in a lifetime photo wondering if this will be the moment it fails. I'm very disappointed with this SONY product; I loved using it and promoted it to all my friends. That was my mistake because this is a camera whose lifespan is measured in months. Whatever you pay for this camera will need to be money you are willing to gamble.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

this camera is heavy for a point and shoot and somewhat awkward to use.
The screen is not completely utilized to show the image. There is a
black bar at the bottom giving f stop, shutter speed and iso. Totally unnecessary. Finally I don't like the images it produces. It emphasizes
highlights and oversaturates to the point where details are lost in fusion
of color. The autofocus is also slow. My old canon s 95 produced a
more pleasing image although the lens on this camera is somewhat sharper.

A lot quality in a travel size camera

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I wanted a small travel size camera that would meet my high quality image standards obtained with my professional gear. This Sony provides outstanding quality for its size. My only comment is that the case included in the kit is a bit too small and fits very tightly.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

The specs and reviews of this camera had me hoping it would be everything I needed in a camera small enough to easily carry everywhere I go yet provide DSLR-like image quality--especially in low light. I'd also purchased simultaneously a Canon PowerShot D5X for my spouse who is a die-hard user of the articulated display that the Sony RX100 doesn't offer. Both of us needed a viewfinder for ease of shooting in bright sunlight. I loved the Sony's advanced features but soon found it was very hard to hold in only one hand while shooting (too tiny). The Sony's viewfinder was my biggest disappointment: It was clunky to open and required me to press my eye tightly to the eye cup before the sensor would illuminate the display. Also, the viewfinder seemed out-of-focus around the margins thus making camera shooting info difficult to read. Adjusting the diopter didn't correct the problems. I tried both right and left eyes to see if either problem would improve and they did not. Finally, I found the flash to be unnecessarily aggravating to close (yes, I got the hang of it but it still is an awkward procedure). The Canon, on the other hand, was a joy to hold and use with the viewfinder. Had I not tried both I'd have never known how much friendlier the Canon D5X is vs. the Sony RX100. I'm returning the Sony RX100 with plans to replace it with a Canon D5X.

              Bottom line: Worth every penny.

I prefer my Nikon FX DSLR and nice lenses. But they're bulky to travel. This Sony is the perfect combo of portability and quality. I've tried cheaper pocket cameras from Nikon and Canon. I'll never go back now.

Among the selling points: Excellent image quality for a small sensor, flash that's easy and sufficiently powerful to bounce off ceilings, good battery life, EVF when in bright sunlight, full manual controls and smart automatic settings that get that quick snap.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

There are legitimate reasons the Sony RX100 series of cameras have enhanced the whole world of point and shoot cameras. The RX100 series is wildly popular for good reasons.

Sony has built a one-inch sensor and Zeiss lens together with the latest image technology into an attractive pocketable camera.

                It's a first-class camera for all purposes.

I have 4 Nikon DSLRs but 50% of my images are now SONY.

My four Panasonic Point and shoots are with a neighbor, a grandson, the trash and returned to B&H. Never again after dealing with Panasonic repair.

                Who should buy

This camera is for the person, who doesn't care about DSLR like images, who is upgrading from point and shoot, vloggers.

                Why I returned

There are better options for me in less price as I do street photography and this camera is not fit for my needs.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

This is a truly fantastic compact camera with capabilities and performance that far outshine smaller cameras of its type.I wanted a camera that was simpler to carry, this seemed to fit the bill and I've been extremely happy. Image quality is very good and the performance is truly awesome. It is costly as compared to other compact cameras, but the performance is excellent when compared to other cameras in its category. If you want a budget camera this may not fit. If you want a reasonably priced camera that can produce pro-level images with less hassle - this is that camera. In its fully-off and lens-retracted state, it is still relatively thick, and the weight is more than I expected. You can't get it much smaller than this if you are looking for such amazing image quality. In short - great image quality, full manual control, variability in control setup, solid build, a great viewfinder, awesome lens and nice clear screen. When are you getting yours?

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I have carried this camera with me constantly for one year, Other than my scratching the LCD from my sometimes carrying it in less than ideal circumstances, it's held up nicely. When I first got this camera I hated the menus. HATED them. Then as I became used to it, and granted this took some time, I'm amazed by what I can do with it. I mostly use manual but if I need a fast shot the automatic features are great. The video is to die for with several options. I love combining separate audio with stills and video to tell short stories. Sometimes just fragments from every day life that work because I have the camera with me.

I've used the Cannon 5D. GREAT camera of course, also a pro camera. Much bigger. Love the full frame, nothing compares. But it's something you use when you go out to shoot. It's not real practical to carry about. For kicks I looked at the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX1 Full Frame Compact Digital Camera but even if I could afford it, the lens is bigger and so it'd be harder to carry than the RX100 III. Plus it's so expensive casually carrying it would be hard and the video isn't as good as the RX 100 III. The RX100 III is not cheap, but I take it bike rides in my bag, something I might not dare do with a full frame couldn't do with the DSLR styled Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX10 Digital Camera, which my husband LOVES and ditched his Cannon T-2i for it, but again, it's big. You take it when you know you'll be taking pictures. Some of my best shots with the RX 100 III is when I didn't know I'd need a camera.

I took a picture today at Newport RI on Christmas, one year exactly since I got this camera. I reached in my pocket and took it out. One of those moments when the sun is right and the camera is with you. I've done a lot of video shorts too with it and like the results. Really, if you're patient and willing to take the manual and learn the menus, it is very versatile and gives fantastic results.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I shoot with the RX100 III more than 9 months. Before I had a RX100 who was a really great camera and make my enthusiast with the RX series. First of all, the RX100 III makes for such a small camera stunning photos. It´s very well build. The perfect (second) companion for trips and Holidays. It is the camera for having it mostly on automatic (the Green setting) or SCN modus. Go on safe and the results are 98% superb. The buttons are too small en to near placed to each other. So it´s not the camera for the A, S modus. Then I recommend the Lumix LX100 who´s is a realy great camera too but a little less compact.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I'm pleased with the camera. I use it to photograph all the activities associated with the non-profit organization I volunteer with--outdoor activity/people/kids.

It's small enough to carry in a big pocket, the optics are terrific and it produces quality results. The manual is the weakest part of the whole package so it's worth it to hunt up and purchase a private reference. The optional at extra price grip is worth it to hang onto it, as it's a dinky thing.

Like lots of new toys, there's a learning curve. My thumb spins the wheel dial on the back when I'm not paying attention and there's still tons to learn and master. I just found out I can lock that wheel.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I have read quite a few complaints about this model III concerning its lens problem (shutter does not close etc...) I have two models II and III, none of them have any problem whatsover (Though I hate the fact they were made in China. I don't like any "men's toys" made in China AT ALL). I am willing to pay more if they are made in Japan.
Concerning problem with shutter' problem, blame yourself first. Take good care of it, it will give me hour of pleasure. On any seaside, I see people just leave their cameras exposed to open air like any toy! It's a no no. I only expose my RX100 III the moment I take any picture, right after that. I shut off, and put it back inside a soft case. Do remember there are lots of salt in the air, those salt will "kill" your camera gears: lens and shutters will suffer once those salt formed around those devices.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III Digital Camera:

I've sold my Nikon DSLR system equipment and wanted a smaller camera without a great sacrifice in photo quality. This little camera is just right for me. The 20 Mp. resolution and zoom lens help to make this a "real" camera. What really does it though, is the pop-up EVF. This assures that its a really useful piece of photographic gear. I use the camera for hiking, travel and family get togethers. The articulated display panel is good for confirming shots and perfect for menu settings. Sony really has done a great design job with this series. I chose this model instead of the RX100 M4 because I don't intend to shoot as much video as still shots.

Used mostly for street shooting and in museums. Excellent little camera, love how compact it is, can carry it around in a small case on my belt.

Still photos are very sharp and bright even indoors without flash. Video quality is very exciting.Superior to the original RX100, which I had previously. Not cheap but well worth the price. No negatives.
