I don't shoot video at all, so it's all about photography for me. I love this lens, it's sharp from f/4 at all zoom range, little to no vignette at all zoom range, easily controllable barrel distortion from camera (my 6D has the ability to fix it in camera for jpeg files) or by post processing software.
The IQ is awesome, just awesome. The IS is amazing, allowed me to take handheld photos in very low light conditions, and I've never thought they would be sharp, but IS is phenomenal! The build quality is newer-standard L lens by all means, creamy smooth and very wide rubber focus ring (grip is awesome with/without gloves), tough and resisting zoom ring - which is good IMHO to avoid creeping or any change even walking with the lens.
Weather sealing tested several times with b&w clear protective filter attached, tough, rugged, took it with me on rainy/windy days and did not afraid to use it under any conditions.

I love the whole focal length of this lens, there is no length it's bad at. From 16 to 35 this is an awesome sharp lens. The bokeh is quite good, I don't usually like bokeh for these focal length values, but when I do get a bokeh shot - it's really nice.

Cons: F/4. This is not a good night photography lens by any means. It's capable to take some low light street/in doors whatever photos, but F4 is just not enough to get some good stars action, by boosting the last stop by shutter you risk at blur, by boosting ISO you risking unusable noisy images.

BUT! IMHO, Instead of getting the 16-35F/2.8, just get this lens and with the change get the rokinon 14F/2.8 for night sky photography, because besides the fact that 16-35F/4 lens is super sharp, I love that this lens is 77mm thread, which allows you to share filters/filter holders between rest of your 77mm lenses, and I love the fact that 77mm filters usually costs less then 82mm.

Bought this lens to replace an aging 17-40 f4L. Was disappointed to find it wasn't nearly as sharp in the center but much worse in the corners than the 17-40. I have read all the glowing reviews/tests of this lens and was guided by those results to buy it. Unfortunately,as happens, this copy was not one of those great lenses. I further learned that there was no need to replace the 17-40 as long as I am willing to accept soft edges at f4.

Used this lens for the first time on a shoot in a dark area. The IS allowed very slow shutter speeds and tack sharp images. I'm very impressed!

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I was looking for a super wide angle one and found good reviews of this lens. It's a nice lens to carry around with the f4 instead of f2.8, which is more expensive and much heavier. With its IS feature, f4 should be good enough in many low lighting applications. The 16-35 zoom looks nice and compact. I haven't had many opportunities to try it but will put it to good use very soon to fully evaluate its performance.

This lens does what it should - is very sharp, the IS works great and F/4 is fine for most cases. Unless you are trying to shoot action indoors then you may need F/2.8.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I'm currently using the Canon 24-70mm F/2.8L II lens, (which is excellent), so when I started looking for an ultra-wideangle zoom, I was concerned about how it compared optically to the 24-70.

Let me ally all of your concerns. This is a GREAT ultra-wideangle lens, especially for the money. It actually rates better than the 16-35 F/2.8, but it is pretty much the same size, just a tad lighter than the F/2.8

              Highly recommended!

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:

I recently purchased a 5DSR and wanted a wider lens with IS. The lens if absolutely fantastic. The resolution is great and I can hand hold 2-4 stops with IS. The F4 minimum stop is not an issue with the IS and I get more in focus than the non IS 24-70 that i have had for years.

Its the sharpest Canon zoom lens I have. Light, good contrast and will create nice 18-point stars from highlights when using very narrow apertures.

I originally got this lens so I could improve my real estate photography. I didn't realize I'd then use it for nearly everything else! I've used it for a gender reveal party -- to catch the entire room's reaction. And then I used it for a maternity shoot -- to get photos that there's no way I could have done with my 24-105 and with out a step stool to get above the subject. Super awesome lens that I would highly recommend!

Taken this lens out a few times to play around with some landscape shots. Great sharpness and color rendition. The one drawback as others have stated are the plastic threads in the front so putting a filter on requires a little extra attention.

Comments about Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens:
