Prior to buying my own Canon 17mm TS-E lens, I rented a copy along with a Metabones III adapter to mount on my Sony a7r. Although lens data was read correctly, I noticed there was a good amount of vignetting when the lens was shifted to its limits, as well as, some pretty serious flare issues especially if the camera was facing a bright light source (the sun or a street lamp at night time for example).

About two weeks later I was ready to buy my own copy of the 17mm TS-E lens and I notice that this new Metabones Mark IV model was available so I went ahead and bought it on a whim. I have not used it extensively but I can tell you for a fact that this version is much better suited for tilt shift lenses. No more vignetting when the lens is shifted to its limits. Also flares are dramatically reduced, if you dig very carefully I'm sure you will be able to find a flare, especially when facing a bright light source, but I believe this is due to the nature of the front element of the 17mm TSE. I have absolutely no flares on my 24mm L lens. When comparing both adapters, the interior seems to be wider and painted with a paint that seems to be less reflective, other than that they both pretty much look exactly the same.

I couldn't give this 5 due to the fact the lens mounting issue still persists. I don't understand why the people at Metabones have decided to make the mounts so tight. I was a bit worried that my lens would break if I had forced it but after reading online it seemed that most people were having the same issues with the III and IV but my copy did not feel like it was as bad as others were describing so I went ahead and gave it a bit more effort and everything worked without problem. So until the people at Metabones find a better solution for the mounting issues I can only give this 4 stars, besides that its a great piece of equipment.

Avoid at all costs. There has to be something better. A complete waste of $ Why?(1) Unit will loose electronic aperature with all Canon L lenses randomly, and repeatedly. This particular problem has been complained about by others. I can't tell you how much this upsets me. - A. You will loose shots all the time! Once the adapter looses aperture, you must twist off the adapter from the camera and back on in order to take a shot! This happens randomly and repeatably! imagine a one hour photo session, and you have to twist off and on the adapter between 10 and 50 times. This is the norm. Utterly unacceptable and deplorable. - B. Because you are constantly twisting off-and-on the adapter, you will put extra wear-and-tear on your camera mount! - C. Because you are constantly twisting off-and-on the adapter, you will introduce more dust particles on your sensor. If you are using a mirror-less camera, you're already collecting more dust then mirrored cameras, but now the problem of dust is even more profound! (2) Yes, the auto-focus works but it is SLOW. Hey, I'd live with that problem if it weren't for above problem#1(3) I've contacted their support multiple times for MONTHS. They speak broken english in email, and have no phone number to even call them. They respond with the same answer, "We are working on a new firmware." I've asked for a replacement unit, and they simply ignore that request over and over again. This is NOT a respectable company in any way. In Summary,Although the unit will work "when it wants to" ... you cannot rely on the product in any professional way. Further, because Metabones knows the unit is defective and does nothing about it, for me, the company is fraudulent. You won't be able to enjoy taking photographs because you will be too busy twisting on and off the adapter over and over again. This will abuse your camera and bring dust onto your sensor. If I could give a ZERO for this product, I would. This adapter causes you to have no fun in photography and instead be disgruntled.

Before update the firmware the adaptor sometimes it work and sometimes it don't. So I updated to the newest firmware and hope it will fix the problem, now my lens doesn't work with the adaptor any more. Have to send it back to fix it and cost another $ for shipping on top of this $ adaptor. I would recommend if you didn't get it yet, don't buy this adaptor. Is a waste of time and money.

I bought this adaptor to be able to use my Canon lenses on my Sony alpha 7rII and I am happy with the performance this far. Its a well built, solid piece of equipment. A very good feature is the AF-compatability with the Canon lenses. It does not seem to slow the AF down at all under normal light level situations. Under low light I have a feeling it is a bit slower, but to be honest I have shot a lot more low light with this camera than with the Canon so it might not be a fair comparison. The only thing I do not like it the way it makes the lens longer... Something you will have to live with in the adaptor world...

        Metabones Adapter Disappoints

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

I purchased this adapter to use my Canon L lenses on my new Sony A7R II. The fit on the Sony body is very cheap. It is not a smooth fit as you expect with a typical lens mount. It feels and looks cheap. It does not inspire confidence that it is solidly engaged on the camera.

The autofocus times with my Canon L lenses are actually much better than I thought they would be. However, when changing focus from near to far, the autofocus system wants to hunt and has trouble finding the correct focus.

Rarely am I disappointed with a photo purchase. This is one of those times.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

Like many who are probably reading these reviews, I decided to migrate from a Canon 5D Mark III to the new Sony A7RII and figured I would use this adapter to ease the burden of buying all new glass.
You've no doubt read the same accolades about how fast Canon lenses can focus on the A7RII, and this is true. What they don't mention is that auto-focus compatibility is mostly limited to L lenses. 50mm 1.2L? You're good to go. 50 1.8? No auto-focus at all. 85 1.8? Hunts and hunts and never locks on anything.
In the end, the lenses I most wanted to use with this adapter were not compatible, so I returned it. Make sure you check compatibility with your own lenses before you purchase.

Use for a few of the L Series prime obviously all is great, lenses actually look better on the sony than the sony lenses. Only issue is with the f/2 135mm lens, meatiness requires Sony a7r ii to shoot in full manual mode, no auto focus. Looks fantastic however, so still worth the ability to use on the camera in full manual mode.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

While I'm disappointed that the AF doesn't work on my Canon 85 f/1.8 and 50 f/1.4, I'm impressed with how fast my 24-70 f/2.8 (version I) is. It also makes my canon mount Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 fast and accurate.

I was planning to buy the (Canon mount) Sigma 35 f/1.4, but it would not AF with the adaptor. So I updated the firmware on the adaptor, went back to my local camera store, and the Sig AF was terrific.

So, all in, very happy. Not sure whether the older primes can become functional with firmware updates or not.

I have been trying to use this with the Sony A7Rii and Canon L series lenses on the Metabones approved list. When it is working it works well, but it looses connection with the lens after a short time (a few minutes to an hour or more), then the camera goes into manual focus mode and says no lens is attached. The fix requires that the lens be removed and reattached, sometimes several times, to get it to reconnect. This unreliable operation makes it essentially impossible to use. Metabones support did not have any useful suggestions except to say it should work. I returned it.

Put the Tamron 17-50 Canon mount lens on the adapter to marry it to my Sony a7s. It burned out the electronic aperture permanently on the Tamron so in the garbage it goes. When you contact the company for trouble shooting, they basically don't know what it will do to lenses that are not on their tested list and are unwilling to guide you so beware if you buy this - if your lens is not on their list, it might destroy your lens too.
In fact I just bought the very nice Sigma 24mm 1.4 from B&H and it also is beginning to do the same thing when attached to the adapter so I yanked it off and must return it.
Make sure you're on the approved list or beware!

Good product, but... Auto focus functionality for Canon ef/L lenses and Sony FS7 is not great. I'm going to assume that the problem is with Sony and I'm hoping for firmware help from Sony. Were Metabones to be at fault I would knock off 2 stars.

                          Otherwise all functionality works.
Fit and finish seems very good.
Would love to do a test of sharpness across the whole image, comparing sharpness of the lenses on canon native body. Has anyone done one?

Final note, all references to problems with changing f stops (flash to white between each stop) is a thing of the past after FS& and adapter were together for a short time. Firmware did the trick.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

Purchased as part of the promotion and use with FS7. Mostly no problems. Sometimes the iris doesn't communicate with the camera, but resarting fixes that. All in all a good product.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony E-Mount Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

After being a Canon shooter and shooting now with an additional Sony AR7 we needed a mount to attach all of our L-glass. This is perfect and works great. The only lense it does not seem to work with is my monstrous 85 1.2 ...not sure why. Otherwise great buy.

Great adapter, but there have been some glitches with my A7s. They are supposed to be fixed in the next firmware update (came out yesterday!) but I haven't tested that out yet. Best out there that I've seen.
