Prior to buying my own Canon 17mm TS-E lens, I rented a copy along with a Metabones III adapter to mount on my Sony a7r. Although lens data was read correctly, I noticed there was a good amount of vignetting when the lens was shifted to its limits, as well as, some pretty serious flare issues especially if the camera was facing a bright light source (the sun or a street lamp at night time for example).

About two weeks later I was ready to buy my own copy of the 17mm TS-E lens and I notice that this new Metabones Mark IV model was available so I went ahead and bought it on a whim. I have not used it extensively but I can tell you for a fact that this version is much better suited for tilt shift lenses. No more vignetting when the lens is shifted to its limits. Also flares are dramatically reduced, if you dig very carefully I'm sure you will be able to find a flare, especially when facing a bright light source, but I believe this is due to the nature of the front element of the 17mm TSE. I have absolutely no flares on my 24mm L lens. When comparing both adapters, the interior seems to be wider and painted with a paint that seems to be less reflective, other than that they both pretty much look exactly the same.

I couldn't give this 5 due to the fact the lens mounting issue still persists. I don't understand why the people at Metabones have decided to make the mounts so tight. I was a bit worried that my lens would break if I had forced it but after reading online it seemed that most people were having the same issues with the III and IV but my copy did not feel like it was as bad as others were describing so I went ahead and gave it a bit more effort and everything worked without problem. So until the people at Metabones find a better solution for the mounting issues I can only give this 4 stars, besides that its a great piece of equipment.

I received two of the metabones 4 adapters for my Canon Lens. Both were extremely difficult to mount the canon lens to. I returned one and am keeping another which is slowly loosing up. Nothing like mounting a lens on a canon camera, this is a tight two fisted effort and I would never recommend putting the adapter on the camera first for fear of damaging the camera.Otherwise it has "worked" with my 24-105 and my 50 1.4 and even my pancake 40 - but focus attainment is sometimes iffy and not as quick as with the native Sony/Zeiss lenses so it somewhat limits their use to manual or to situations where rapid focus acquisition is not required. Also, the canon lens + the adapter makes a much larger assembly than the Native Sony/Zeiss lenses - so if carry size is an issue - go with the native lensesMy need is primarily for landscape and my TS-E-24 and for the bigger lenses for which there is no Zeiss equivalent. For those purposes I think its a good solution.Other than the actual lens mount, it looks quite well made - but for what they are charging, they could have bought canon mounts from canon.

I bought this to use my canon lenses with my sony a7s.. works perfectly. ive heard people complain about the slow auto focus and how the camera wont read the lens sometimes. i mostly shoot video with manual focus lenses so the focusing wont be an issue. the camera did fail to read the lens once but its an easy fix... just take off the adapter and turn on the camera, turn it back off, install the adapter, turn it back on and BAM! its working again.

Fits a little tight. I can use all my canon lenses on my sony now. save me a few hundred on lenses, and the focus peaking helps to focus my rokinon 14mm. If youre a canon shooter picking up a sony for hiking, this is a must have.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

Metabones doesn't claim fast AF for this adapter. Also here http://www.metabones.com/article/of/faq they explain why the adapter is stiff and how to make it more loose. So all reviews that complain about the extra stiffness or the slow AF are nonsense. Sony's own LA-EA3 is not faster. It's the best EF to E mount adapter to date your money can buy. The AF is slow, but it's working. The build quality is top notch. The new firmware (yes, it's updatable!) solves the MF assist glitch, so now the camera reacts on the lens' focusing ring correctly (engaging the auto zoom-in feature consistently) in the advanced mode. I'm using this adapter on my A7r and recently purchased A7m2 with the Canon 16-35 f/4, Canon 50 f/1.2, Zeiss Otus 85mm and Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO - can't be happier.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

I got this adapter to use my Canon EF lenses with the A7S. While it does work most of the time, there's still quite a few bugs that I hope will be resolved with a future firmware update. Often the adapter won't recognize the lens and I'm left with a black screen, so I have to readjust the lens and miraculously the image will appear. Also the record button on the A7s sometimes doesn't register when i press it. This could potentially be an issue with the A7s but a colleague of mine with the same set up has run into the same issues, so we doubt it's the camera. I'm happy to be able to use my lenses with the Sony which produces great images, I just wish it weren't so finicky.

i ordered this for the a7s for my canon lens. the focus is poor. it hunts forever. Use it for manual focus only. the ring is very tight on the lens. you have to use a lot of force to attach it to your lens. It is very hard to unscrew from the lens. I feel better using native sony FE lens. too much work for $. the only positive that i find in this is the ability to change aperture. regret buying this thing. i recently updated the software vers which made it worse. i think it was better before the update.

I purchased this adapter so that I could have electronic control of my Canon 24-70 f/2..8 II lens. I had seen a lot of people having issues with this and recommending other brands. From my experience with the adapter on the Sony A7s, I have had 0 connection or power issues. It works perfectly as if there was no adapter. I have only had the two items for 48 hours but I have been playing with it constantly checking for any mishaps as this is now my production camera and I cannot afford to have anything happen while on set. Every single time that I have turned it on and off it has worked seamlessly and quickly. There are no issues at all. I have connected the adapter to the lens then the adapter to the camera body and had no trouble with too tight connections or anything that has been more difficult than using an adapter with any other cameras. The one thing I don't like about it which is a small issue but could cause trouble depending on what kind of gear you have is that the adapter has a connector for a tripod ( which is nice BUT ) if you are trying to put this on a shoulder rig or steadicam system it could cause a slight issue. Unlike the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS II which has a much larger and more prominent tripod connection that is also moveable, this one seems to be just slightly in the way at times. Overall though this is a great product from everything I have experienced. I don't know if it is because of the timing in which I got the Sony A7s and the newest adapter with the newest firmware update, but I am very pleased and look forward to using this in the field to connect more canon and EF lenses to my Sony A7s.

I use this adapter with the Sony a7s.
                            I've used the following lenses...

                            Canon 35mm f/1.4L
                            Canon 50mm f/1.4 USM
                            Canon 85mm f/1.8 USM

9 times out of 10 it works fine. Every once in a while when I turn on the camera it acts like there is no lens attached. Usually re-seating the lens and turning the camera off/on again brings it back.

Otherwise, it works just like I'd wanted. Image is sharp, haven't noticed any significant issues.

I use it mostly for video with manual focus using a follow focus, so focus time isn't an issue for me, but in autofocus mode I have noticed the focus time is slower then when I've put a regular E-mount lens on the camera. But, it still does focus in the end.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

I bought this to make use of my Canon glass on the a7s. It's pretty much just as expected from all of the other reviews. Fits very well and I haven't even removed it from the body yet. All of my lenses communicate well with the adapter and IS works perfectly, but I do have 3 overall callouts:

                              1. I had a few instances when the a7s simply does not communicate with the lens. The screen remains black upon turn on and I have to remove the battery and restart the camera. I can see this being a big pain if it spontaneously happens in the field.

                              2. Sometimes you do aren't able to utilize the f/ stops of the lens. I have the 85 f/1.2 connected and the readout shows that I am using f/1.3. I have no idea if this is an electrical error or if it is just giving me the wrong readout. This doesn't happen all the time.

                              3. Autofocus pretty much doesn't exist. If you own the 85 f/1.2, you already know that the lens is slow to focus, but actually tolerable. Picture waiting 2-3x the amount of time for a lock on focus with that lens. In fact, with most other lenses, it doesn't even lock on to what you want. It takes a few tries to actually get the green lock and most of the time it's inaccurate. Simply put: DO NOT EXPECT TO HAVE AUTOFOCUS WHEN BUYING THIS ADAPTER. I use the camera for 90% video so this is alright, but when switching to photo mode expect to use focus peaking and manual focus with the a7s.

The biggest surprise that I had was that out of all my lenses the Canon 50 f/1.4 was the quickest and most reliable autofocus with this adapter. I couldn't believe this was faster than the L glass that I own (even the 135 f/2.0).. unbelievable!

Overall, it gets a 4 because it's mostly reliable, works for me when doing video, and I get to use the IS function in my lenses. I'd count this out if you were trying to get autofocus and wanted to use it for photos.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

The Canon EF to Sony e mount adaptor looks and feels like great quality, however the first unit we got was defective. The adaptor attached easily to the Sony e7s camera but the Canon EF lens could only be turned 20 degrees and not 90 degrees until it clicked into position. I notified the company via e-mail about our problem, they suggested we use more force to lock it into position. It was not possible to apply more force it could damage the camera or the lens. I returned the unit for replacement, B&H provided an excellent service and send us a new replacement unit. No problem to install the unit, however the communication between the Sony camera and the Canon lens is scrambled, example auto focus does not work in and out of focus.I need badly a working model of this type of unit.

This adapter does everything it promises to do. However sometimes with the a7s I did have to turn the camera off and back on again before it registered the proper f' stop to the lens.

With that being said this is still the best ef active mount you can purchase for you sony product.

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

I bought the Metabones IV to attach my Canon 24-70 II to my Sony a7r.
It fit perfectly and was snug but not unlike other adapters I've used.
I am a professional photographer and I expect a camera to focus when I am ready to aim and fire. That did not happen 100% of the time with this combination. The Sony body is very poor as far as I am concern in the area
of focusing. I knew it going in, but I didn't realize how bad it works.
I bet I lost about 40% of my shots trying to use the auto focus and the manual focus is fine but you can't judge the focus via the screen.
I am not going to throw the baby out with the bath water, but I'm not going to depend on the Sony for anything other than a studied image-

Comments about Metabones Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Camera Lens Mount Adapter Mark IV:

Four star rating due to two areas of import…autofocus limitations and lens release button poor quality. Otherwise a great product. I needed this to fit my Canon EF lenses to the Sony A7R for professional still life photography. It has worked for each lens I have tried so far. The fitting is a little tight for some lenses, but if you take your time and proceed carefully, it all works. This smart adapter works very well. It comes packaged in a nice sturdy case and the fit and finish were attractive and overall very good quality (except for the release button). All of the lens data is passed to the camera. There is no doubt that auto focus DOES NOT work as effectively as with my 5DMIII and EF lenses. The Sony A7R and this M-IV adapter combination with Canon EF lenses is limited to manual focus IF YOU WISH TO HAVE finely focused images. In manual focus THIS DOES WORK VERY VERY WELL. Fortunately, the A7R has two excellent tools to assist with manual focus. Overall, manual focus is easy to learn and use and it is faster than trying autofocus with a cooperative object. No time to do this with an animated objective! Seems to be a mirror less form function problem rather than a pure adapter problem. Bottom line for me is that so far, the Sony A7R is basically a technical objective camera--meaning it is impractical for general use. In very good lighting conditions, the Metabones adapter enabled pretty good, but not fast, autofcocus with the Canon EF and L lenses. No image quality issues, so far. The only shortfall I found is my concern for the the release button. It seems flimsy. Each time you remove a lens, you have to push this button and it feels very fragile. I find that if you push it very, very carefully and then twist the lens it works. But it could be much improved. A must have for Sony A7R and Canon EF lens owners.

Solid tight fit. I was really surprised how snug the adapter both fits to the camera as well as how tight lenses attach as well. It feels just like my high end titanium mounts for my RED. Using it now with a Zeiss 15mm 2.8, which is a fairly heavy prime, and it's been perfect thus far. If you're shooting mostly motion/video, this is perfect, as auto focus is not typically used. Lastly, I own both the A7R and A7S, works great with both.
