I used a lot of Canon lens but i always keep this one as my favourite. For portraits it's impossible to do better. I feel comfortable with the 100mm range, the f2 aperture, the size, look and the weight of this lens. It is very good for street shooting and some landscape. I simply love this lens, it always give me stellar images. If it was rugged like the 100L F2.8, it would be simply perfect, but the built quality is very good so it's not a big drawback. I prefer it over the 85mm f1.8 that is very good too. If i had only one lens to keep, it would be this one.

I shoot primarily high school sports and rely heavily on my 85mm f1.8 lens for indoor events, as the lighting in high school gyms, field houses, and pools is iffy. I bought the 100 f2.0 to extend my reach and still manage high speeds in low light.

I have used this lens for girls' volleyball and swimming and have found it to be nowhere near as quick to focus as my 85 f1.8. I'll try it for wrestling, as I like the extended reach, and wrestlers are more likely to stay put, needing less speed for focusing. For basketball, I'll stick to the 85.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

I have had this lens for several years and it is my go to for portraits.it is so sharp, I often find myself softening the pictures to satisfy my clients. great weight to performance ratio ( is that a thing?). I chose it over the 85 becuase of the bokeh being just that little bit nicer...YMMV. excellent build, can't say enough about this glass. Can it really get any better than this? Wish it had an included lens hood...but I shoot through a mattebox most of the time anyway, so....

Did alot of research prior to buying this lens and I'm glad I did. I am very satisfied with it. Great image quality, sharp wide open, good construction, and has a solid feel to it. Not much more I could ask for out of it other than a closer focusing distance.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

This lens does a great job at getting reasonably closer to a subject without having to be in their face to get a good shot. Lightweight, great depth of field. Solid prime lens. I wish the F-stop was 1.4 like it's 50mm cousin to do even better in low light, but I'm sure that would kick the price up quite a bit. For what you do get, the price is great on this lens.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

Using this with my 6D, it produces tack sharp images with a fantastic bokeh. Compared to the Canon 85mm 1.8, this lens produces much better images for me. I just don't get the sharpness, colors and bokeh with the 85mm like I do with this. Plus I prefer the 100mm focal length for portraits. The results I'm getting with this really remind me of my Canon 135mm L 2.0, which in my opinion is the greatest Canon prime lens ever made.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

The 100mm f/2 is really good, a bargain considering the quality. Sharp from wide open in the center but slighty degraded performance wide open due to vignetting/slight corner softness corrected by stopping down, even with lens data correction. Light and good.

I shot this against the 135mm f/2, and it's almost as good, but much much lighter, so I've got two kits: lightweight for travel, and heavier for shoots when I don't have to walk all day.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

Great investment in short tele lens. Very light and discreet. Offers good sharpness and contrast, even at maximum aperture. Focus very fast and silent. Mechanical much better than Canon 50mm F1.4. A little purple fringing at maximum aperture, but easily disappears in F2.5.

Fast quiet USM focusing, excellent optics, wonderful bokeh. I have owned the 135L and the 85 1.8 and this one sits in the middle of those focal lengths to provide a good distance away from subject for environmental type portraits with very sharp results.

Although lacking the weather resistant refinements of the L series, this prime lens is otherwise excellent for street shots and portraits, with a wide max aperture for lower light shots shots and shallow depth of field. The USM autofocus plus the wide aperture means rapid focusing, while the compact size is low key and non-threatening.

28-135MM makes more sense...but its okay. Out of all my lenses, I use this one the least. Its just not the most practical.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

This was my first good lens purchase (others are cheap zoom lenses). I love love love this lens. I mostly take horse pictures--portraits, action, inside and outside. This works for everything. Shooting wide open indoors, I get bright, sharp photos. I usually shoot wide open outside, too, and get sharp shots. I love the depth of field and bokeh. This is what I use 95% of the time.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

I've tried several different lenses for indoor volleyball and finally found the perfect blend of image quality and focal length in this and a 200 2.8. Zooms are great, but with image quality my main priority I find primes to be better in most cases (especially when there's fast shutter speed).
Used to also have the 85 1.8, which is great, but I like the 100 2.0 a little more. The focal lengths are similar enough to not matter, but I seem to get a slightly nicer look with the 100.
Bought for indoor sports, but I can see it's use almost anywhere.
                              Highly recommended.

Comments about Canon EF 100mm f/2 USM Lens:

Between the two, 85 mm f/1.8 and this, I made the choice for the slightly greater focal length. The optical quality is excellent, there are lots of impressive curves to prove it. The lens is light, easy to carry along, focuses fast and does not cost you arms or legs. On the hindsight, I maybe should have gone for the IS macro L but I can get a plane ticket for somewhere far away with the price difference.
