Recently bought a T3i that came with the 18-55mm kit lens. I read a lot of reviews and decided I needed a nifty Fifty. it was well worth it. I use my 50mm now more than the kit lens. the bokeh(background blur) is amazing, and the speed of this thing is awesome. At f/1.8 you won't miss a shot again. This lens is incredibly fast compared to the kit lens. I never knew what I was missing till I bought this. And for around 100 bucks it's a nice addition to your lens collection. It's almost a necessity, almost ever photographer owns a nifty fifty.Be aware when buying this, you will not be able to zoom at all, I own both kit lens, the 18-55mm as well as the 55-250mm telephoto. But out of those, the 50mm is on my camera 90% of the time. The photos are that great! It takes excellent portraits. Some of the more professionals around here may complain about this lens, fair enough. but if your just starting out, and like me, came from a point & shoot to this, you will find this lens more than adequate. I review my shots and see nothing wrong with them, in fact family and friends have asked me to get some prints for them.As for the plastic casing, I don't find it all that bad, after all, aren't most of our cameras made of plastic? I'm not taking photos with it in a warzone, so as long as you treat it properly it will be fine. It's a worthy investment, you'll love the photos you get with it, so buy it now!

I'm gonna average my rating between the 2 lenses that I got. I know that it's a QC issue, but hey, that's what the average star rating is for.The first one has serious front element play, and that makes AF totally unusable (think 9/10 shots out of focus at f/2.8).Returned that one. The 2nd one I got was amazing. On a 600D crop body, sharpness is consistently good from edge to edge. Pentagonal bokeh is not very nice, but the wide aperture allows for custom-shaped bokeh, so not really an issue. The real problem is the almost unusable manual focus ring. Even though this lens doesn't have the front-element play anymore, AF is spotty at wide aperture. Forget about focus-recompose. Your best bet is to use live view, zoom in, then AF.Not the best-built lens out there, but hey, for $ you get high-quality glass. If you're thinking of upgrading from the 18-55 kit lens, besides a longer tele-zoom, this is seriously to be considered. If you're on a tight budget but want to upgrade from kit lens, no reason not to get this one.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:

To put my review into context, I am not a professional photographer and saying I am an amateur might even be overdoing it. I dabble in photography at the current moment and bought this lens to help me learn because my other lens is a wide angle, and I mostly shoot in classroom settings for my job. So far I love it. The images I am getting are crystal clear. It is certainly a good bargain for the price.

Good results under low light conditions.

Took great video's via the lense too.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:

Great lens for the price. This is a nice addition to my camera bag. I haven't used it much, since I've only had it a few weeks. I gave it a good workout when I first received it. Image quality is sharp and it gave a nice blurred background. Focus was a little slow and hard to achieve in a low light situation, but I was able to adjust for that. It's going to take a little time and quite a bit more use and practice to learn how to use it properly.
I've read all the negative reviews for this lens. Plastic, not L quality, and others. My answer to them is, SO? It is still Canon quality and I don't abuse or plan on abusing my equipment. The price is right, very good actually for this lens. It will be in my bag for a long time to come and will be on my camera frequently delivering the quality images I know it is capable of.
So far I'm very happy with this purchase. I'm going to plan a day soon to spend with this lens on my camera and play with it. I'm sure I won't be disappointed nor would anyone else who added this lens to their camera bag.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:

Have a Canon D 6. To match an expensive body, I invested in couple of expensive wide tele zooms. After reading several articles on primes decided to buy this lens. I am amazed at the image quality. Since I have this full frame camera, the image is the reproduction of what I see. If you have an APS camera, you may want to go with a 35 or 40 mm prime lens. If you go with this 50mm you may get a little zoom equal to an 80mm.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:

Overall a good buy. It came just as described and very fast. The AF is a little annoying as it CONSTANTLY needs to focus and it is extremely loud. So if shooting moving objects this could get upsetting. Overall I would recommend this lens for still photography.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:

I finally made the switch to the world of Canon with the 6D the other day and i needed a lens while i wait to get my 24-70 2.8. So i got the 50mm 1.8II just so i have something to shoot with my 6D. I was intending to return it once my 24-70.

With just about 2 days of shooting with this "toy" of a lens i will keep it! Sure its loud, very cheep build, and a tad bit slow with the AF but the IQ was quite good for the price! Not in the same leauge of an L lens of course, but the subject is always in good sharp focus with more than adequate contrast.

This will always be with me for it is so light and can turn out really pleasing images. Plus it is so light that theres no excuse not to bring it with me anywhere.

My one and only negative remark is the plastic rear mount. If that brakes i would easily get another one.

So go ahead and buy one! Have fun and shoot untill it breaks! Dont get so caught up with all the latest and greatest specs. This lens is more than enough to make great images.

Comments about Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens:

I'm not one to use a lot of different lenses. But, I'm glad I got this one. The f/1.8 (fast) aperture opens up some nice opportunities for shallow depth of field and indoor shots. 50mm is a useful focal length that works in many cases. It's small, light, and affordable. It definitely feels somewhat cheap and made of plastic, but that's a minor thing. I've had the auto-focus flail a bit at times too.

A little loud, but performs like a charm. Cannot beat it for the price!
