Nice Size, Reliable, I have taken about 10,000 images with this in the last 8 months and it is still going. I am ordering a second as a backup today. If you need a basic strobe, this gets the job done for a cheap price.

    Comments about Smith-Victor Flashlite 110-I 110 Watt/Second Monolight (110VAC):

I bought this for hairlight . This is also the 2nd one they had shipped me . The first one wasnt working. The test button didnt work. The 2nd unit sent to me seems to work but i noticed one odd thing about it . The main light fires off and is supposed to trigger the slave on this hairlight . Well, to my surprise, it seems to only trigger the hairlight if you DIM the modelling light or any other ambient light source or this hairlight will not flash at all -- REALLY STRANGE but it works once you get a hang of it. Personally i think its decent and lightweight. You do get what you pay for and its not bad.

      Comments about Smith-Victor Flashlite 110-I 110 Watt/Second Monolight (110VAC):

I bought this light to use as a background light in an unusual setup. For my application I needed to mount the light on the backdrop crossbar and point down on the background. In the past I had used an Alien Bees light, which was fine, except that it was overkill and really too heavy.

I bought this light because it was cheap and very lightweight.

So far it looks like it will do what I want it to. Features are limited, but effective.

      Pros:
      - Inexpensive
      - Lightweight
      - Small
      - Accommodates umbrella
      - Build in optical slave
      - 3.5mm sync port in

      Cons:
      - Optical slave has no disable switch (plugging something into the sync port does not turn it off). To disable the optical slave, I had to cover it with two layers of gaffers tape.
      - Only two power settings - full and 1/2 power
      - Doesn't look like flashtube is replaceable
      - Limited accessory options
      - No flashtube protection cover (although barn door accessory will effectively provide this protection)
      - Power cord is permanent, i.e. not modular.

I did a simple power test by measuring the light output at a fixed distance compared to a Canon Speedlite 580EXII. I would estimate that at full power, this light put out about 1/4 the output of the 580EX, but it's still plenty for a background or accent light.

        Comments about Smith-Victor Flashlite 110-I 110 Watt/Second Monolight (110VAC):

Consistent. Use it for fill, holds it's own against 400+ watt several light setup. Syncs well using optical slave, which can get difficult for some manufacturers. Lightweight and small, fits anywhere. Would like to be able to adjust the power output, but I can compensate other ways. I think I want to buy a few more, since these are reasonably priced.

          Comments about Smith-Victor Flashlite 110-I 110 Watt/Second Monolight (110VAC):

I got the Flashlight as a fill-in for my two other monos. It exceeded my expectations. Turned out it was small enough to fit in my camera case (had to leave out my second back-up camera), and now it lives there. No, it is not a powerful flash, and the stand/umbrella connection could be heavier duty, but, hey, for the price, you can't beat it. I want a couple more...

Very bright, and easy to use. I had to get the as-15 adapter to use it with the Nikon d80, but works great. Has a nice half bright setting.

            Comments about Smith-Victor Flashlite 110-I 110 Watt/Second Monolight (110VAC):

I purchased this light to use in a photo booth with a small softbox. The price was perfect and it works great. I would not use it for regular studio work, but for the job and the price it is perfect. I also like the size and weight. It only has two power levels, but that works ok because it is the only light source and I can meter to it.
